Athena in Tower Defense Game! [LitRPG]

Chapter 88: Fourth Force

Athena had barely emerged from the beehive when she noticed a faint light screen shimmering on the hive, emitted from Berry's main hive.

It spread outwards, enveloping everything tightly within.

However, only half of the Giant Bee Clan's territory was covered by it; the rest of the outer perimeter remained exposed.

It must have been due to insufficient energy.

If that were the case, it would only prove that the premature ripening of the dark fruits had been accelerated.

She rubbed her slightly furrowed brow.

There really was no moment to rest.

If nothing unexpected happened, she would undoubtedly secure the first place in this regional battle.

Once the time came to start seizing the dark fruits, Athena's Fireburst Balls would inevitably be used.

And all the damage inflicted would be credited to her. She had already received the system's rewards; now, she needed to obtain Tree Monster skins and Tree Monster leaves.

She pondered whether to stay directly within the Giant Bee Clan and await the end of this war, waiting for the final distribution of results. But she quickly dismissed the thought; while feasible, she would at best be just a logistics personnel.

She couldn't always be a logistics person in every instance; such chaotic battle experience would also benefit her.

When Agasi returned with materials once again, he saw Athena leisurely lounging outside, seemingly idling.

He was about to inform her that once the protective shield was activated, no one could enter or leave to search for materials.

Athena waved at him before he could speak, irritating him slightly, but he managed to restrain himself.

"You've worked hard, but it's unnecessary now. Just leave them aside for the moment."

After several rounds of gathering, each batch of materials brought back was less than the last, but far more than Athena could gather alone.

Her system backpack was full, and she couldn't discard any of its contents.

When she returned, she would have to see if she could bring all these things back; otherwise, it would be a pity.

Arriving at Berry's hive, she held the only ordinary quality Fireburst Ball in her hand and wondered if the Hive Queen could enhance it.

The continuous state of the Hive Queen was really not good; it had prematurely activated the protective shield. It had to keep producing continuously, strengthen the Fireburst Ball, and also pay attention to the situation on the battlefield. It was already showing signs of fatigue. Upon seeing Athena enter, it didn't intend to conceal this.

Athena handed the Fireburst Ball to it, "Can you enhance this quality as well?"

"I intend to keep this one for myself."

Setting aside the other Fireburst Balls, the Hive Queen immediately took this one and started enhancing it separately.

After a while, it successfully strengthened it.

The Fireburst Ball transformed into a fine quality one, not only becoming more stable but also possessing a power far beyond ordinary and inferior quality ones.

The mere act of holding them made her heart race.

These were beyond the usual trades; the low-quality Fireburst Balls in her possession were essentially acquired through underhanded means.

Both she and the Hive Queen understood this tacitly, but neither intended to openly acknowledge it. It was better left unspoken. However, expecting the other to provide free enhancements was pushing it.

But perhaps this was just part of the give-and-take of favors.

Athena's intention to head to the battlefield was apparent, and the Hive Queen showed no inclination to stop her.

"Let Agasi take you. It can carry you," Athena approached the Hive Queen, intending to raise this matter, only to find the Hive Queen beating her to it.

Agasi, with its helicopter-sized frame, could accommodate Athena comfortably. If they could drop such devastating weapons from the air and have Agasi defend against attacks, it would be a formidable alliance.

"Okay," the conversation was brief, just a few sentences.

As they departed, Athena remembered to thank the Hive Queen.

Agasi vibrated its wings discontentedly, tossing a few wind blades around. However, it couldn't disobey orders; that was out of the question.

Athena jumped directly onto its back. As Agasi ascended, Mikmik, curious, quietly nestled in Athena's embrace.

Athena couldn't help but chuckle softly. "You climb such tall trees without fear, yet your first time 'riding a helicopter,' you're suddenly afraid of heights?"

Mikmik played dead, and Athena didn't tease it further.

Agasi's speed was impressive, quickly outpacing the yellow Giant Bees behind and gradually approaching the central area.

The central region was in chaos, yet curiously devoid of corpses. The Giant Bees and Third World players, who had been battling each other, were now maneuvering around a large bird that had just arrived.

The bird spread its wings, each several dozen meters wide, tearing the airborne Giant Bees to shreds with sharp claws.

With its incredibly fast flight speed, it toyed with the Giant Bees endlessly.

But as more Queen Bees arrived, it ceased its mischief and ignored the ordinary Giant Bees and Third World players.

It stood guard near the Tree Monsters.

The remaining Giant Bees dared not act rashly, gradually realizing they were not welcome in this scenario. Some players were already considering retreat.

Having slain many Giant Bees, not only did they rise in the rankings, they could also exchange many things in the Contribution Store.

Thus, while some players withdrew, others remained, driven either by madness or greed.

Potato had been urging Ask-The-Heavens to flee from the sidelines, but Ask-The-Heavens remained unmoved throughout.

Relying on Ask-The-Heavens's combat prowess, scrolls, and various treasures, the two successfully entered the finals.

Potato now understood that Ask-The-Heavens was a complete madman.

Even with wounds bleeding profusely and on the verge of death, as long as there was breath in his body, he would continue fighting his opponent.

Only after killing the opponent would he slowly begin to heal his wounds.

He truly feared this guy, but he couldn't escape alone now.

The arrival of Athena and Agasi didn't attract much attention. The continuous influx of Giant Bees and successive Queen Bees no longer surprised them.

However, Agasi didn't head towards the Tree Monsters but stayed on the periphery with Athena. Some keen-eyed individuals noticed Athena on Agasi's back.

Her purple dot on the map hadn't disappeared because she hadn't participated in the melee recently, causing her ranking to drop further.

Now she had fallen to eighth place.

A dream shattered.

Many recognized her as the madwoman who had thrown the Fireburst Balls previously, causing some to be wary.

Moreover, she was now sitting directly on a Bee Queen's back, and the situation between them appeared quite amicable.

With three forces now in a standoff, no one dared to make a move because the fourth force was about to arrive...
