Kurapika's heart pounded with excitement as he listened to Mika's plan.
He currently had two overriding goals:
First, to hunt down the members of the Phantom Troupe and avenge the deaths of his clansmen.
Second, to recover the Scarlet Eyes, the treasured ocular organs of his Familia, that were scattered throughout the black market.
The Scarlet Eyes were highly coveted by collectors of human organs, individuals who typically possessed immense wealth.
Therefore, retrieving the stolen eyes required vast sums of money and substantial influence.
These were resources Kurapika desperately needed.
If Mika's plan to subtly seize control of the Mafia succeeded, he could leverage their power to achieve his objectives.
“Can we really pull this off?” Kurapika asked, a mixture of excitement and apprehension in his voice.
“Of course we can,” Mika replied, his face radiating confidence.
“The Mafia's upper echelons have been significantly weakened. The deaths of the Ten Dons and the complete annihilation of the Shadow Beasts have created a power vacuum.”
“Light Nostrade, having risen through the ranks thanks to his daughter's abilities, is now perfectly positioned to seize a share of the power in this chaotic situation.”
“Provided he has sufficient strength.”
“Clearly, he lacks the necessary power, but we can provide it for him!”
Gesturing towards Mellie and Airmid, who had been listening attentively, Mika continued with a smile. "Don't underestimate their strength. Even you would struggle against them, wouldn't you?"
“I wouldn't doubt it,” Kurapika conceded with a slight nod.
His Nen abilities were specifically designed to counter the Phantom Troupe members.
Therefore, he could only unleash his full potential against them.
“So, what’s our next move?”
“Let’s start by contacting Light Nostrade. He must be in a state of despair now that his daughter has lost her Nen abilities.”
“Indeed.”
Recalling Light’s devastated expression before he left, Kurapika shook his head.
The man's success was entirely dependent on his daughter's abilities.
Yet, he had once boasted that everything he had achieved was through his own efforts.
Such self-deception.
“Alright. When do you plan to meet him?”
“Tomorrow.”
“It’s settled then.”
After their discussion, Mika and Kurapika reached an agreement and finalized their plan.
“By the way, where are Gon and Killua?” Mika asked, remembering his younger companions.
“They went to the auction,” Mellie replied, savoring the pastries on the table.
“Oh, right. It’s that time of year again.”
Exchanging glances with Kurapika, they said in unison, “The Greed Island auction!”
…
“Mika, Kurapika, please train us!”
Gon and Killua stood before Mika and Kurapika, their voices filled with determination.
“What’s this about?” Kurapika asked curiously.
Gon and Killua recounted their experience at the auction.
After witnessing the bidding war for Greed Island, a video game valued at over 30 billion Jenny, they had approached the buyer, the billionaire Battera, using their Hunter licenses.
They intended to join the game as part of Battera's team of players tasked with clearing it. However, they were rejected by Battera's hired Hunters due to their perceived lack of strength.
That was why they had returned to seek training from Mika and Kurapika, hoping to officially join the game through the recruitment process.
“I see.”
After listening to their explanation, Kurapika shook his head.
“My experience won’t be much help to you. My power comes from vows and restrictions, and that’s not a path you should tread.”
“So, it’s best if Mika and the others train you. They are much stronger than me.”
Mika smiled and said, “You two aren’t weak, but if you want to improve quickly, you should develop your ‘Hatsu.’”
Hatsu, the culmination of one's Nen abilities, could significantly amplify a Nen user's power.
“However, I’m busy for the next couple of days, so I’ll leave this to Mellie and Airmid.”
“Alright!” Mellie chimed in cheerfully, catching Mika’s eye. “Since they’re members of our Familia, we’ll gladly take on this task.”
“In that case, Mellie, you take Killua, and Airmid, you take Gon.”
“Sure!”
“Thank you for your guidance, Airmid, Mellie!”
Gon and Killua expressed their gratitude for the offered training.
…
“Well, Mr. Light?”
Mika smiled as he looked at Light Nostrade, who sat trembling across from him. “I believe I’ve made myself clear. Do you understand?”
“Yes, I understand.”
Light wiped the sweat from his brow with his sleeve, his voice trembling.
He was terrified by Mika's proposition.
To reach the pinnacle of the Mafia...
It was a position he had never dared to dream of.
Even with his daughter’s abilities, he could only reach the inner circle of the Mafia.
He merely aspired to climb a few more rungs on the ladder.
Yet, Mika was offering him a direct path to the very top.
Where did he get the audacity to make such a claim?
Was it absolute confidence or sheer arrogance?
Light couldn't tell.
"Are you worried about my capabilities?" Mika chuckled, sensing Light's apprehension. "Instead of dwelling on that, perhaps you should consider the consequences of refusing my offer.”
“What do you mean?” Light asked nervously.
“What do I mean? Surely you don’t think you can maintain your current position now that your daughter has lost her Nen abilities, do you?”
“That’s impossible!”
“Those ruthless individuals vying for power won’t allow you to remain where you are.”
“They’re just waiting for you to fall!”
“What will you do then?”
Light’s eyes widened in terror.
He was well aware of the precariousness of his situation, but he had been burying his head in the sand, desperately clinging to the illusion of security.
Now, with Mika ripping off the bandage, his despair surged forth.
“What should I do?” Light asked, his voice filled with desperation.
“You don’t need to do anything. Just sit back and watch.”
“We’ll take care of everything.”
Mika took a sip of his tea and smiled reassuringly.
---
Two months passed in the blink of an eye.
During this time, Gon and Killua successfully entered Greed Island, while Mika, Kurapika, Airmid, and Mellie immersed themselves in the turbulent world of the Mafia.
After two months of intense conflict, Mika successfully consolidated various Mafia factions, propelling the Nostrade Family to the pinnacle of the underworld.
However, with the Mafia's restructuring, the Nostrade name became increasingly irrelevant.
Therefore, Mika merged the various Mafia families under his control, establishing a new power:
The Vongola Family.
And Mika became its first boss.
…
Within a sprawling mansion, Mika and his companions sat in the living room, engaged in casual conversation.
On the table before them lay seventeen pairs of Scarlet Eyes, shimmering with a captivating brilliance.
"These are all the Scarlet Eyes we've been able to recover so far. The rest will have to be collected gradually over time," Mika said, addressing Kurapika with a serious expression.
"It doesn't matter. I can wait."
Tears welled up in Kurapika's eyes as he gazed at the jar containing the Scarlet Eyes.
The treasured organs he had longed to recover were finally within his grasp.
"Thank you, Mika!"
Looking up at Mika, a gentle smile gracing his face, Kurapika's expression was filled with gratitude.
"Without your help, I don't know when I would have been able to retrieve them."
"You deserve it. After all, you played a crucial role in this battle," Mika replied, recalling the arduous process of unifying the Mafia.
Although the Mafia seemingly lacked powerful Nen users, and their trusted Shadow Beasts had been eliminated by the Phantom Troupe, they had secretly harbored several Nen users with exceptionally dangerous abilities.
Even Mika had been caught off guard on one occasion.
Fortunately, Gabriel's presence had prevented him from suffering any serious injuries.
After all, compared to the strange abilities of this world, Gabriel, as a fragment of a God wielding omnipotence, was the most enigmatic existence.
Kurapika had also teetered on the brink of death several times during this conflict.
Thanks to Airmid's healing magic, they had managed to avoid any casualties.
"If you're truly grateful, then after I leave, I expect you to uphold the honor of the Vongola Family," Mika said with a grin.
Within this Mafia family, named after the renowned organization from the Katekyo Hitman Reborn! anime, Mika was the founding boss, and Kurapika was his appointed successor.
In Mika's absence, Kurapika would handle all matters concerning the Vongola Family.
This was Mika's decree.
After all, the Hunter x Hunter world was merely one stop on Mika's journey, not his final destination.
Therefore, Kurapika was the ideal candidate to lead the Vongola Family.
"I understand, Mika. You can count on me," Kurapika replied with a firm nod.
He understood Mika's intentions. Furthermore, compared to Mika, he needed the Mafia's resources to track down the Phantom Troupe and continue his quest to recover the remaining Scarlet Eyes.
"However, it seems you already have plans to leave. What do you intend to do next?" Kurapika asked, sensing Mika's desire to move on.
Mika simply smiled and pulled out a game console, holding it up for Kurapika to see.
"Greed Island?" Kurapika's eyes widened in recognition.
"Exactly. This is one of the gifts from a Mafia family that recently joined us. Upon seeing it, Mellie and Airmid expressed their desire to play."
"Don't put all the blame on us. It was your idea in the first place!" Mellie retorted, rolling her eyes.
Mika chuckled.
His suggestion to play Greed Island wasn't solely driven by a desire to experience the game.
He simply wanted to escape the current chaos.
The Mafia was in the midst of a major restructuring, which meant a lot of work.
His initial intention for infiltrating the Mafia was merely to acquire some of the Hunter x Hunter world's firearms.
He hadn't anticipated such a demanding workload.
Therefore, he was eager to escape and relax.
"I see. Then leave the Mafia matters to me, Mika. You can enjoy playing Greed Island with Airmid and Mellie without worry," Kurapika offered.
Unlike Mika, burdened by a burning desire for revenge, Kurapika could never truly rest.
Not until he had avenged his Familia.
"It's settled then!" Mika said quickly.
Having achieved his goal of unifying the Mafia, he could now reap the benefits of their power and influence.
After all, his intention was never to keep the Mafia for himself, but to entrust it to Kurapika.
Among Gon's group of friends, Kurapika was the most suitable candidate.
…
Greed Island was a game exclusively sold to Hunters.
By channeling their aura into the game console, Hunters could be transported into the game world.
That was the superficial explanation of Greed Island.
In reality, the game existed on a physical island.
The game console served as a specialized teleportation device, transporting players to the island.
The objective of the game was to collect cards.
There were countless cards with various effects, referred to as spells.
Each player received a binder.
This binder could hold numerous cards in addition to the designated one hundred restricted slot cards.
By collecting all one hundred designated cards, players could complete the game and achieve victory.
The prize for winning was the ability to bring any three cards back to the real world.
These three cards essentially represented three single-use Nen abilities.
Battera, the billionaire who had purchased the Greed Island game console for an exorbitant price, sought a specific card: "Angel's Breath."
This card could heal any injury, regardless of severity, even restoring missing limbs.
Battera intended to use it to cure his beloved, who had been in a coma for over a decade.
"So, are you ready?" Mika asked, looking at Airmid and Mellie with a smile.
"Of course!"
"Let's begin then!"
With that, Mika channeled his aura into the game console, and his figure vanished from the room.
