Chapter 36: The Lord Grace’s Association (II)
Ethan had been in a daze recently. He didn’t hear what Samuel said to him at breakfast until Samuel knocked on the table impatiently.
“Hello! What’s the matter with you recently? It’s like you lost your soul.” Samuel glared at him very unhappily.
Ethan searched his mind for a reason and said, “May……maybe it’s because I’m dizzy from the smell of the sewers.”
“Hmph, you couldn’t be thinking about the priest with the three eyes, right,” Samuel cocked an eyebrow. He asked casually, with an expression as though he had caught Ethan by the hair. Ethan denied reflexively, “What made you think of him?”
Samuel took a bite of his bread and said, “I asked Cavin, and he told me that after you had an accident in the Tenth Space Station, the priest showed up and took you away for a night.”
Ethan’s shoulders shrunk down due to his guilty conscience. However, afterward, he thought about how he had not done anything wrong. Why did Samuel act as though he was a commander interrogating him? “Yes, he took me away, so what?”
“So what? Don’t forget that in the eyes of others, you are my Omega. Yet, in the end, you were taken away by another Alpha for an entire night! How am I supposed to face the others!”
“If he wants to take me away, can I refuse? Do you think I am a legal citizen?”
“You should at least resist!”
Ethan rolled his eyes with a look that indicated he didn’t want to argue with Samuel. However, this caused the Omega to get even more riled up. Samuel stood up, leaning forward and looking down at Ethan as he threatened him in a low voice, “Believe it or not, I’ll bite down real good on your neck during the night while you’re asleep.”
Ethan quickly covered his neck with his hand and moved back. “You’re a psycho, an Omega who wants to mark others all day long.”
“Why can’t an Omega mark others? At most, I’ll bite down harder so that you’ll bleed. It won’t be much different from a mark left by an Alpha, and it’ll take a long time to heal.”
However, Samuel reached out and smacked Ethan’s forehead. “What the hell are you talking about? I merely used inhibitors.”
“You’re still using them?! Do you even want children in the future? Are you not aware that if you go on like this, you will become infertile?”
“Hmph…… That would be perfect.”
Ethan sighed and said earnestly, “Whether or not you have children isn’t important. The main point is that the long-term use of this kind of thing will increase the risk of having womb cancer, bringing about early menopause. You need to give your body a proper rest.”
Samuel poured his milk into his mouth and said impatiently, “When I get out of this place, I will never use them again.”
“Get out?” Ethan asked in surprise.
“I have 64 points now. If it wasn’t because of what happened on Red Earth……oh, forget it. As long as I accept three more ten-point missions and can obtain a few more points, I will be able to get out in about three years!”
64 points……it had only been three years since Samuel had entered the Forbidden City, but he had accumulated so many points. It seemed that he had worked really hard and had probably volunteered to participate in every high score mission. And……he had actually lived to this day.
It seemed that this Omega was not just extraordinarily strong.
But……Ethan didn’t say anything. He thought that the whole system of accumulating enough points to leave the Forbidden City was a fraud.
After the last five-point mission, he vaguely felt that whether a task was dangerous or not was not determined by the points given. When those people set up those missions, they wouldn’t consider their life or death. Some tasks were even deliberately set up to wipe out some people.
He heavily suspected that when a nonhuman’s moral value points approached 100, they would be sent on a mission of ‘no return’ to eliminate that person completely. He knew what kind of attitude the people outside had towards the nonhumans. No one wanted them to leave the Forbidden City. He heard his previous colleagues chatting countless times about how the people in the Forbidden City had done evil deeds but did not receive the punishments they should have. If they were justices in the Court of Ethics, they would not be so kind. They said that those trash nonhumans should be gassed, bombed, or shot in a row to save the taxpayer money used to upkeep their expenses.
Additionally, when a former government employee like him who knew too many government secrets is sent in, he should be among the top few nonhumans they want to wipe out. Was there any slightly intelligent higher up that would release him and allow him to return to society? If it hadn’t been for his dogshit luck in meeting Tanisiel, he would never be able to live until today.
However, he didn’t tell Samuel about his suspicions. It was always good to hold onto some hope, even if that hope may be dashed.
And the remnants of his hopes were all tied together to Tanisiel.
Yes, the reason why he had been distracted in recent days was that he found himself thinking about that beautiful and dangerous man involuntarily. Tanisiel had said very clearly that they were simply using and mutually satisfying each other. He himself was also very clear that the only connection between him and Tanisiel was his Heavenbounder bloodline. However, he couldn’t help but recall his gray eyes, his lips that drifted along the tips of Ethan’s ears, and his warm chest clinging to his back. He remembered every word Tanisiel had said to him, and every time he recalled it, the low and gentle voice would flow through his mind like hot spring water.
Before Ethan went to bed, he would unconsciously wonder whether Tanisiel would suddenly appear the next day, waiting for him at some corner. His reason told him that this was an unrealistic fantasy, but his emotions never regarded what his brain told him. He felt that he had already been charmed by the priest with a demonic faith.
This didn’t bode anything good for him. He knew it, but he couldn’t help feeling this way.
The next day, Ethan drew a vivid bite mark on his neck with red, black, and blue oil-based pens. Samuel did not seem very happy when he saw it and quietly muttered that it did not look like his teeth at all. Ethan could only shrug his shoulders and told himself that the other behaved this way due to his delayed estrus.
On this day, he carried his tools into the pipeline system and made his way along the pipeline’s nine bends and eighteen intersections until he reached a relatively spacious section that even had an embankment. However, on this very day, after making two turns, he could already smell that the air was different.
Shortly after, he heard someone talking.
Obviously, it was a person’s voice, but permeating the sewer’s familiar damp smell was the unique smell belonging to a specific crowd of people. Ethan paused and gently set his tools aside, tiptoeing toward the bank. He did not dare to show up directly but pressed his body close to the wall.
The bank was initially wet and empty, but there was a crowd of people at this time, and the area was illuminated with bright lights. After looking around, he determined that there were a hundred or so people gathered together here. However, even though many people had gathered, they were all quiet, showing a rare discipline. Ethan even saw two or three figures donning guards’ attire. They all held up flashlights, slightly raising their heads and looking to the front where a man was standing on a collapsed boulder—Chen Zeng.
“For countless centuries, mankind’s governing system has remained imperfect. Whether it be feudalism, democracy, or a centralized rule, these systems were all flawed because they would eventually become corrupt. Didn’t even the most vocally democratic states nearly cause the destruction of the Earth hundreds of centuries ago? This also contributed to why the Earth Union believes that absolute freedom is evil. Most people are ignorant. The bloody wars and massacres from history tell us that people can never establish a stable and perfect system.
We were infected with Lucifer’s sin, no longer believing in the Lord and no longer willing to obey his will and accept his rule. Some people always say that if God exists, since human footprints have spread all over the galaxy, why haven’t we found the so-called heaven? That’s because they don’t know that heaven is not necessarily in our universe. If the Lord created the universe, how could a creator stay trapped in his own creation? The Lord has his own universe. It is a parallel universe that is more extensive and brilliant than our own, with higher universal laws that we could never comprehend.
Similarly, if there is a parallel universe known as heaven, then there is also hell. The evil in it is something unimaginable. In the eyes of the Lord and the Devil, what we do is meaningless, just as we humans don’t care about what bacteria do. Clinging to the Lord is like parasitizing ourselves on a healthy person. However, in that way, we naturally can be protected. Only by being attached to the Lord can we be sheltered from the absolute and evil forces in hell. Only by being connected to the Lord will we not be shattered into pieces by the Great Evil God’s mouth that is full of sharp teeth when it descends.”
Chen Zeng’s voice sounded powerful as it resonated around the pipeline. Ethan realized that Chen Zeng had combined the Eves’ beliefs with Christianity and introduced some kind of new religion to the nonhumans.
Chen Zeng gathered his followers in the evenings after work to preach in some buildings located in the peripheries that were on the verge of collapse and unfit for human habitation. However, he was repeatedly stopped by the guards, and they had even threatened to deduct the participants’ moral values. Thus, the gatherings were suspended. It seemed that they had decided to use this area as their new gathering place……
Not even an ordinary guard would be willing to come down to this kind of dirty and smelly place, so Ethan was very surprised that his followers even included guards.
It was amazing that the guards, free and legal citizens with positions above them, would listen to a nonhuman’s nonsense? This was a little intriguing.
This was because the guards could communicate with the outside world. If Chen Zeng had a way to preach to the guards, then his preachings would probably spread to outside the city……
At this moment, the sermon came to a temporary end, and the group suddenly uttered a deafening cry, “My loyalty belongs to the Lord, to the teacher, to the Lord’s Grace Association!”
The excited shouts that came from the bottoms of their souls echoed through the innumerable pipes, shaking the bricks and stones. Ethan’s body stiffened momentarily, worried that this would cause some of the stone corridors to collapse.
At this moment, the scene in front of him seemed a little mystifying. Everyone was shouting the same slogan with a single voice and making the same gesture of drawing a cross with their hands. The same enthusiasm and excitement bloomed in all of their eyes. Such a scene brought forth a mighty force, like a torrent running in the same direction, breaking through all obstacles with the momentum capable of destroying everything withered and decayed in its path. This religious craze caused Ethan’s heart to tighten.
A feeling of fear spread down towards the depths of his heart, and the itching on the back neck became increasingly intense and even began to gradually spread downward. He reached up and touched it. The skin was dry and rough, and it had spread to his shoulder and neck.
His skin felt tight and swollen, as though something was about to emerge. However, after a few moments the feeling disappeared. Thus, he thought it was just his misconception.
T/N: Again, although I don’t really believe in any religion, I would like to emphasize that the religions depicted here are just fiction, and this is not a true account of Christianity or semblance of any other religion. Also, to clarify, Ethan will not become an omega, as mentioned by the author.
