Chapter 102.3 Detractors
Fifteen more minutes of work and even the muggles could feel the outrage that went through the neighborhood, making their insides tremble and many vomit. No one would find any trace of it now. There was nothing here, and the Muggles couldn't see anything through the protective dome. A group hallucination. And there had been enough holes here before — a construction site.
Another twenty-five minutes later, the Aurors appeared. Quickly! Wands on the floor! Who are they? Wands on the ground! Who used magic? — That was the first thing we heard after the "brave" police arrived. No one had wands in their hands, their hands were in plain sight, and we were sitting on a bench in front of the mobile kitchen.
As far as I understood, these "inventor" took a cargo container and converted it into a kitchen on a wheeled platform. Two other containers have been converted into living quarters, and they are transporting them by truck. So the workers went to lunch, all of them, and we stayed outside to wait for the lawmen. The men in scarlet robes were insolent, rude, demanded to see wands and other evidence, but got nothing.
The leader of the group was a rat-faced man with a sloping chin, an acquaintance of Anthony's. This wizard completely ignored the veteran's words, tried to get to the bottom of it, even threatened. But his men, who had been sent around, couldn't find anything, not even an artifact — the magic detector detected nothing. "Rat" swore, hissed, and cursed at his subordinates, but he never got anything. One of the subordinates "found" the wand and immediately put it in a tricky case.
I was thinking of cutting out these "guests" as well. But why? Everything is clear! I even looked at the man questioningly and ran my right thumb over the back of my left palm.
A sign of attack. One of them. He shook his head negatively and pointed at his watch. Well, let's see what he's up to. Four of the more enterprising young men decided to make a personal search of the girls right here, and Rat just gave me a sneering look and nodded. I wondered who would do it first: would the girls shoot the young men, or would I kill them? But no one had time to do anything. A group of twenty Aurors, led by a scowling, serious woman with copper-red hair, appeared with a clapping sound. The first ten froze in disbelief, and Rat was almost skewered with rage.
As it turned out, Anthony had immediately sent his Keeper to an old acquaintance, Amelia Bones, upon receiving my Patronus. How they agreed on the details so quickly, I didn't understand. But the point was to use the Ministry artifacts to track the fluctuations of multiple movements, as well as to monitor the movements in the DMLE itself.
When Rat went somewhere, his party was tracked, waited to find out if it was the final destination, and then moved on. Some of Madame Bones' own people took it upon themselves to "re-fuck" the department. As a result, it turned out that the tracking officer had been recording the use of wanted wands whose owners were known and wanted criminals. But he only reported it to a "rat" and when the activity stopped, he waited some more time and came to me with the group.
Of course, I doubt that it will be possible to find the customer. I'm even sure that tonight, in the extreme case, Rat will be destroyed. Most likely, something ordinary will happen to him, like choking on a mushroom or poisoning. It's a classic. It's a pity that we can't catch the culprit by his too long and clever nose. Guessing isn't going to cut it. Searching the astral is useless if you don't know what or who you're looking for.
But nothing, now I have good security, if they carry weapons, they won't go missing. Besides, there were two women among the new arrivals who knew a lot about "medium" level potions. So the range is even wider now. Of course, I could show you some tricky recipes from Miyazaki's library, but that's a whole other level that's too early to show.
Another good thing is Lizzie. That burning look in her eyes and the blush on her cheeks is very familiar to me. Yes, this girl with "Hollywood" beauty can say with just one look that everything is immediately clear: I have a hard but very pleasant job today.
