Finals
The crowd was silent as both faced each other. They stood there staring. It would be a waste if I would not use this opportunity to add more pressure.
“Commoner.”
I raise my voice as the participants and everyone in the crown turned towards me.
“I suggest that you forfeit. I do believe that you already know who it is you are facing yes? That is the prince of this kingdom and should you have an accident, you will regret it.”
I can see the prince gnash his teeth in silent. He could not ask his opponent to not go easy on him for that act is also dubious. Lyn ignores me and readies her blade.
“Are you sure, commoner? Are you prepared for the consequence?”
She looks at me and glares. Ah, how beautiful. I sneer at her as I look down at her. Whether she understands or not is one thing but the fact that I am contradicting myself to her is something I am enjoying. Her confusion amuses me. Now, what will you do Lyn? What choice would you make?
“Prince, please ready your weapon.”
Lyn returns her gaze to the prince and advises him. The man has not even held his weapon. The prince looks at her in amazement and he unsheathes his sword and faces her.
“Here I go!”
Lyn moves first. She proceeds to approach the prince. Both protagonists have different fighting styles. The male protagonist is a mid-range combatant. They balance their fighting style with ranged attacks and fencing. The female protagonist is a close-range combatant. They channel their magic through their sword and uses swordplay to attack. The weapon that she currently has is one that she is supposed to gain after my defeat. I was truly surprised when they found that weapon first.
“Argh!”
There is no need for casting in this world. Everyone can cast any magic from within their mind. So, the only way to predict the magic is through visual cues. Both protagonists are generalized magic users. However, they have different starting elements depending on the players choice in the beginning. The prince was using wind while Lyn was using fire.
“Mistress, they are strong.”
“Of course they are Sylvia.”
Melanie was not really watching since she was not interested while Juliet was cheering for Lyn. After a while, the crowd finally starts making some noise. The prince has a smile on his face and he thanks Lyn at one point.
“Are those blades of wind?”
“Yes, and they are being deflected using fire slashes.”
Lyn is currently being kept at length by the prince. Understandable as Lyn is stronger in close combat.
“Is the prince flying?”
“No. He is using wind to create a platform in the air.”
Flying is rare but it consumes a massive amount of magic. No one in the world has been able to successfully fly for more than a minute. Lyn could not reach him.
“What is she doing?”
Lyn then jumps and uses the propulsion of her flames to launch herself towards the prince. The prince cancels his platform and he creates a tornado from where he once stood. Lyn uses her propulsion again to dodge the tornado.
“Hmm, they are close in strength.”
“Yes. In the end, this will come down to their equipment.”
The prince then proceeds to shoot wind arrows. Lyn defends by creating explosions in front of her to disrupt the attack.
“Is that what you would call a blast shield?”
“Doing so is very dangerous. You are making magic explode within a very close proximity.”
Their fight was now been going on for thirty minutes.
“Someone needs to break this stalemate.”
“Have you not noticed yet, Sylvia?”
“What do you mean, mistress?”
“Lyn has not been using her magic for some time now.”
“Huh?”
“She is charging the sword. I do wonder what she plans to do with that magic?”
I do not think the prince has noticed yet. The sword does not have a visual cue. Lyn proceeds to keep dodging all the prince’s attacks. She is waiting for an opportunity.
“I can see it in her eyes. This is it.”
Lyn’s eyes sharpen as she launches herself towards the prince. The prince replies with a tornado. However, Lyn does not evade and let’s the tornado envelop her.
“Is this it?”
“No, look up.”
My maid looks up and sees what I see. Lyn has let herself be flung on top of the tornado. The prince stares at her as she spins her body.
“What is she planning?”
I do not answer as I watch. Lyn spins herself in midair using her flames and joins the tornado. The tornado engulfs the flame and burns as Lyn goes down. The heat and pressure of the wind combine preventing the prince from reacting. As she reaches the bottom, an explosion occurs and the earth shakes as the prince is blasted towards the walls of the stage knocking him unconscious.
“She used all the magic inside her weapon to create a massive explosion. The pressure added by her descent and the flaming tornado amplified the force of the explosion.”
Of course, Lyn was not safe either but as the one who initiated it. She was prepared. There was a crash behind me as Melanie’s fort collapsed as the winner was announced.
“Sorry!”
Melanie fixes her stuff as I look back in the arena. The prince wakes as Lyn approaches him. She offers him a hand. The prince takes her hand and they shake as the crowd cheers. On the edge of the stage, those girls were angry. They never seem to learn. I will leave them for another day. As the festivities are done, we meet with Lyn.
“Did you find it?”
“No greetings? Were you thought any manners?”
Lyn tried to speak but I cut her off.
“No matter. Here, we have located your sword.”
We exchange equipment.
“I am disappointed. I remember requesting for you to destroy him.”
“Hmph. I won. Don’t push your luck.”
“I do suggest that you wash yourself. You are so dirty. Ah, I know. Let me help.”
I take the cup of water and splash it directly on her face and then walk away.
“No need to thank me. You are welcome.”
There was no reply as we left. That was the end of the second event.
