Chapter 114: Stopped by Akatsuki!
Swish. Swish. Swish.
Tobey's road was blocked off.
In front was the unmistakable shark man, Kisame, his towering figure casting a long shadow on the road.
Walking beside him was the top contender for both the best actor and 'best brother' ranking, Uchiha Itachi, his Sharingan already scanning the target with a mixture of curiosity and caution.
But it was the third member, cutting off Tobey's retreat from behind, who commanded his attention.
This man stood as the second tallest in the group, his tan skin contrasting against the dark attire that garbed him. His hair was hidden by a grey hood that wrapped his head, working together with a lower-face black mask to hide most of his face, with the exception of his striking eyes.
His eyes - they possessed an otherworldly hue, with green irides, devoid of pupils, and blood-red sclerae that seemed to corrupt one's soul.
These strange eyes certainly screamed power and danger, just like his muscular build that suggested a lifetime of battles.
Yet, Tobey remained completely unperturbed, showing them the very definition of his existence as the man, the myth, the bully!
Flicking his hair arrogantly, Tobey continued his quirky dance in place, aiming his waist thrusts towards each member of the trio in turn.
Seeing the idiot thrusting his waist toward the other side in an almost taunting manner, Kisame leaned towards Itachi, his deep voice carrying a hint of uncertainty, "Is it really the right choice to recruit this brat? He's more interested in his dance than taking us seriously."
Clap.
Watching their target twirl around and thrust toward him, Itachi's Sharingan trembled ever so subtly, but his response was as emotionless as his face.
"Every member has their quirk, Kisame. We need individuals with unique skills and perspectives if we are to achieve our goals… Kakuzu, we'll leave it to you? After all, this will be your partner..."
Observing Tobey's flamboyant antics from behind, Kakuzu's lips curled into a wicked grin, and a low raspy response was squeezed out from his throat.
"No, I'm afraid we'll have to find another one, because... he won't survive one minute."
The menacing air around Kakuzu seemed to grow heavier as his growled leaked the soon-to-be fate of his prey.
Tobey, seemingly oblivious to the exchange taking place amongst the Akatsuki members, continued his carefree performance, thrusting his waist toward Kisame and twirling his hands as if trying to reel in a fish...
"..."
The four contenders fell silent, and the air around Tobey seemed to thicken with tension under the predatory gaze locked onto his back.
Still, Tobey didn't seem to care a bit about leaving his back wide open.
But beneath the unassuming surface, Tobey's spider-sense had been tingling with anticipation over what is about to come!
Kakuzu, seemingly undisturbed by the meaningful disrespect of his opponent, showed zero signs of engaging anytime soon.
But beneath the surface, his upper arm hidden within his sleeves was already detaching from his body, allowing the writhing mass of grey tendrils connecting his limbs to slither and stretch...
With a sudden outburst of energy, Kakuzu's arms exploded forward, unleashing his earth grudge gear upon Tobey!
Greeted by the arms propelled by thick tendrils for the first time, Tobey didn't even have to look back as the instincts embedded within his genes already warned him of the imminent danger!
At the same time, the pre-programmed habits kicked in!
One moment, Tobey was still on his feet. The next-
He was already flipping through the air, showing off a graceful display of acrobatics and dodging the attack almost effortlessly while black tendrils crept out from all over his body!
By the time Tobey landed in his signature hero pose, his black spider-suit had already spawned atop his skin. Battle mode - ready!
Staring at the long taut bundle of grey tendrils that passed right in between the other two unfazed Akatsuki members like a harpoon, Spider-Man's quick wit forced him to quip, "Nice try, but I've seen scarier ways to bond with ropes!"
"Heh. If you let your guard down..."
Kakuzu swung his armful of tendrils like a whip cracking through the air, forcing the irrelevant duo to give him space.
With the other two swishing out of the way, the whip was left unimpeded on its journey towards it victim!
Seeing the thick bundle of tendrils snapping over, Spider-Man, relying on his uncanny flexibility, flipped over the deadly attack, narrowly avoiding the menacing flogging!
However, in mid-air, his danger senses suddenly flared, warning him of another impending strike from behind!
Reacting swiftly, Spider-Man aimed his hand at a nearby tree, shooting out a rope of web.
With a mighty tug, he pulled himself toward his anchor, his body twisting through the air like a nimble acrobat and evading Kakuzu's surprise ambush - a hand that had actually wrapped around in an attempt to grab him!
Clearly, the flexibility of Kakuzu's tendrils were beyond the scope of an inanimate object! They were a living mass under Kakuzu's adept control!
Landing and sticking to a tree, Spider-Man observed the squirming tendrils retracting into Kakuzu's sleeves, his detached hand seamlessly reattaching itself to the rest of his arms.
Facing the rather disgusting sight, Spider-Man was unable to resist cracking a joke, "Tentacles? Really? You must be a hit in the anime industry!"
Seeing the results of the super-quick probing attack from nearby, Kisame couldn't help but grin, baring his rows of teeth like fangs, "The brat's got some impressive instincts."
The stoic Itachi, whose red eyes were calmly observing the battle, didn't say anything. After all, this much was expected for ninjas at their level.
The question is: can the man let him see more this time?
Undeterred by his initial failure, Kakuzu's face remained unchanged. Aiming his arm like a cannon, he fired his hand forward once again!
Whoosh! Bam!
Spider-Man swung effortlessly to another tree in the dense forest, observing with bated breath as the tree behind him shattered into countless pieces.
"Ohh~ Miss, miss! You gonna cry?"
In response to his taunt, the hand swerved through the air and chased after him!
Leaping like a monkey from tree to tree, Spider-Man's mouth fired off taunts like no tomorrow.
"Miss, your aim is worse than little goblin junior!"
"Miss, just admit it and I'll give you a one-way ticket to Loser-ville!"
Seeing another tree get smashed apart, a strange line got mixed in, "Hm, art is destruction!"
Itachi's eyes seemed to subtly twitch as he heard that line, betraying a hidden depth of memory, yet he remained stoic, offering no outward comment.
Leaping over to another tree, before Spider-Man could catch his breath to say another taunt, another arm shot towards him, catching him off guard!
Kakuzu had deployed his second arm, doubling the threat he posed!
Spider-Man leapt off the tree to evade, only to see the other hand already rocketing toward him as if predicting his movement!
Webs instinctively shot out from Spider-Man's hand, wanting to anchor themselves on a nearby tree to help him evade-
But Kakuzu, seemingly aware of his tactics, intercepted his web with his tendrils of his other arm!
With his web anchored to the tendrils, Spider-Man's swinging trajectory came under the control of Kakuzu!
Now, instead of helping him evade, his trusty web forced him to close the distance with the incoming arm!
Despite his instincts blaring danger, Spider-Man didn't even have time to twist his body to evade!
"Die!"
Puff! The sound of death resonated through the air. Purplish blood splattered like oil being drilled from an oil rig.
Time seemed to come to a stand-still. Spider-man's body froze, and he could only stare in disbelief at the arm protruding from his chest. "How'd that get in there?"
