Book 1: Chapter 10
Matsui slowly opened her eyes, squinting against the harsh fluorescent lights. As her vision adjusted, she jolted fully awake, seated at a decorative table inside a themed maid cafe, surrounded by pastel colors and glittering cow decor.
Nearby, Reira and Jayla stirred groggily, also tied to chairs amidst the outlandish cute scenery. Their weapons were gone and their hands bound.
Matsui frantically scanned for Dorki, but found no sign of their companion, either.
Before she could make sense of their predicament, three young women approached wearing frilly maid uniforms. "Welcome home, masters!" They chorused cheerfully. "We are very honored to have you visit our lovely Moo Moo Cafe."
Matsui exchanged baffled looks with her friends. The maids seemed oblivious to them being captive. "Hello..." she began cautiously. "May I ask why we're tied up here?"
"No reason, mistress!" a blonde maid chirped. "We simply wish to serve you well during your stay." The others nodded eagerly, hands clasped. Their nametags read Ichigo, Azuki, and Cocoa.
Reira strained against her bonds with a sneer. "Oh yeah? Then why don't you start by serving up some damn answers before I burn this place down!"
The maids gasped dramatically. "No harsh language, please! We run a proper cafe." They attempted to admonish Reira by playfully poking her nose. She tried biting their fingers, cursing wildly.
"These freaky girls must have grabbed us at the plaza," Jayla said. She smiled sweetly at Cocoa. "Mind telling us why since we're all friends here?"
The maid simply giggled. "Silly master thinks too much! Cocoa just wants to serve." The others continued nodding and smiling obliviously.
Matsui sensed no immediate aggression from their hosts. Playing along seemed the safest option for now. "I would love some tea, please," she said politely. The maids beamed and scurried off excitedly.
"Matsui, what the hell?" Reira looked incredulous. "You're just gonna go along with this?"
Matsui leaned in, lowering her voice. "I don't think they'll hurt us. But I can't sense Dorki here. We need to figure out what's really going on before acting." Her friends still seemed skeptical but kept quiet as the maids returned.
"Sugar? Milk? Honey?" The questions came rapid-fire as the maids served elaborate beverages to the girls. They offered multi-colored pastries until their plates overflowed. Despite the odd circumstances, Matsui realized just how hungry she was.
Between contented bites, the maids brushed her hair, straightened Jayla's clothes, and dabbed food from Reira's cheeks despite her snarling. Their attentiveness bordered on compulsive, seeking any excuse to fuss over the "masters."
Did they truly not see anything disturbing about three restrained girls? Matsui studied each maid subtly, searching for any crack in their harmless facade. But the vacant joy shining in their eyes reflected no ulterior motive that she could discern. For now, she had no choice but to play along, hoping to unravel this mystery.
Matsui's thoughts drifted to her missing companion as the busy maids' chatter continued filling the cafe. Where was Dorki? Had he avoided capture, or had someone else taken him somewhere away from them? Matsui longed to speak with the creature, sure he could illuminate this strange predicament. But until determining her role here, she had to keep the maids believing she embraced their deranged pampering. Outwardly, she smiled. Inwardly, she planned.

Matsui plastered on an obliging smile as Ichigo and Cocoa sang a high-pitched, off-key duet on the cafe's karaoke machine. Nearby, Azuki swayed along, holding a sparkler that she waved gently like a magic wand. They had been performing for nearly two hours now.
Their captors' theatrical antics had briefly entertained but were growing tedious. Matsui fidgeted. She shot Jayla and Reira a pointed look. They needed to take action soon before going insane.
Catching her eye, Reira raised her hand with exaggerated politeness. "Excuse me, Miss Maids! May I pretty please use the restroom?" She batted her eyelashes.
"But of course, Master!" Azuki skipped happily and untied Reira's hands. "Let faithful Azuki escort you there!" She led Reira carefully upstairs as if she were glass.
Shortly after, hurried footsteps approached from above. Reira appeared at the top of the stairs, face pale. Seeing her friends' questioning looks, she mouthed "Bodies, upstairs." Matsui's blood turned to ice. She had known something sinister lurked beneath the cafe's innocuous exterior.
Azuki followed Reira down, humming vacantly. Taking a deep breath, Reira turned to the maids with a pleasant smile. "Thank you ever so much for the lovely hospitality! But I'm afraid we really must get going now." She worked at the knots binding her friends.
All three maids suddenly stopped smiling. Their faces warped with unhinged fury. "You can't leave yet, Masters... your turn is next," Ichigo hissed through gritted teeth. The other two ignited menacing sparks from their wands.
Matsui's pulse pounded as the truth became violently clear. These monsters had slaughtered the original staff, replacing them to act out twisted maid fantasies. And the dead bodies Reira discovered revealed the girls were their next victims. They had to escape immediately.
The maids stalked closer, wands crackling. Matsui worked desperately at her bonds as Reira tried igniting weak flames against hers. But it was no use - they needed their staffs to fuel their magic.
Matsui met her friends' terrified eyes. After everything they had endured, it couldn't end here at the mercy of these psychopaths. She thought of the people depending on them - her neighbors, Jayla's family, young girls who deserved a better world. They had too much left to fight for.
Determination blazing within her, Matsui strained against the ropes, the fibers cutting into her skin. But physical pain was nothing compared to her visceral need to survive. With a primal scream, she wrenched her hands apart; the cords snapping from her sheer strength of will.
Before the shocked maids could react, Matsui ripped the burning wand from Cocoa's grip. Whirling, she slashed the ropes binding her friends, freeing them instantly. Together once more, their courage reignited, and the girls turned to confront the psychopathic maids.
