Chapter 7: Finally, some Guts
Katy stood still unsure of what to say after Sonia’s revelation of having feelings for Dave. She knows Sonia to be very superficial when it comes to relationships. She tends to show her interest at first but later shows lack of commitment thereby leaving the guy hurt. She will not deprive her friend the chance to be with the man she has true feelings for, for her slick and wily sister who would go any length to hurt her and her friends. She drew in a deep breath closing her eyes and wished she had the right approach to her sister’s plight.
“That’s not going to happen Sonia”. Katy said giving her a serious face. Sonia somewhat looks shock and amazed that Katy actually objected to her proposition.
“I beg your pardon”. Sonia said sounding conspicuously upset .
“You heard me right. Why don’t you drop this game? Why are you so determined to make my life miserable?” Katy said with a sad look on her face.
“I thought your friend was the one having a crush on Dave. How then am I making your life a living hell Katy?” She gives Katy a quizzical look, showing no remorse about what Katy is driving at.
“You know what I’m talking about Sonia. Stop pretending. You are trying to ruin my wedding and make my night a worst-case scenario” Katy said aloud
“Calm down Katy. That’s a huge accusation. I wouldn’t come all the way from Alaska just to ruin your wedding. That’ll be a waste of my time seeing how already ruined your life is”.
Katy is shocked that her sister actually thinks her life is already ruined. She’s deeply hurt by her words and she can’t just fathom out why her sister is so determined to hurt her. Sonia has everything. She has the perfect body, the perfect life, their father’s love and a strong self-confidence. She on the other hand only has a good career and relationship she’s not so sure of. Why then would Sonia be so mean towards her. She wished she could just come back to her senses and see how much she’s hurting her.
Sonia might be prettier, bold and cunning but she’s not as loving and caring as herself. She’ll not watch her ruin every chance she has to be happy. She’ll make sure her night goes well and her wedding is not going to be a disaster.
“I don’t care what you feel like Sonia. You might have everything I don’t have but that doesn’t mean you’re better than I am. Sam is my friend and it’s my responsibility to make sure she’s happy as much as I am. She wants Dave? She’ll have him. And I’m going to tell you to back off. You’re not going to ruin her chances of falling in love. You Sonia knows nothing about love. All you know is to ruin other people’s life just because you’re afraid they’re going to be better than you” she pauses and looks deep into her eyes. “You’re just a bully, you’ve always been”. She takes a step closer pointing a finger at her “Stay away from my friends and I. And don’t even think of ruining my party”. She gives her one last look before she walks away from her.
Sonia stood there speechless, unsure of what just happened. Wondering where Katy had such guts to talk to her. Katy might be older but she had always been the bold one with a lot of influences. She forced a smile to herself. If only she had an idea of what she has in store for her. She has just made matters worst, she thought to herself.

Dave hurriedly ran to catch up with Sam calling after her. She stopped and turned around, surprised to see it's Dave, standing in front of her. Her heart begins to pick a race making her freeze in her place. She keeps wondering how she developed such deep feelings for Dave. She hardly even know him. She has only seen him around a couple of times with Tom and Katy. Something about him attracts her to him.
“Hey!” he greets.
“Hey!” she answered looking down shyly.
“Ummm, can I talk to you for a minute?” Dave asked sounding quite unsure what her response would be.
“Sure”. She replied shyly.
“I know you were quite disappointed when you saw Sonia and I together”. Sam doesn’t say a thing. Not sure if that was a question or he was starting a conversation.
“She has been the one all over me tonight since she arrived. Not quite sure what her intentions were”.
He looks directly at Sam expecting her to say something but she’s rather quiet. Not wanting to interrupt him.
“Katy told me everything”. She gives him a questioning look with her eyes. “She said you have a crush on me” He pauses and looks directly at her. “I think I do to”.
Sam looks at him astonished but then she tries to remain as calm as possible. She’s not so sure of what she heard. Maybe she heard him wrongly, or maybe he didn’t mean to say that. Her heart is beating very fast; but then she tries to be composed not wanting to appear extremely happy but deep down she knows she is.
“You do?”
“Yes. I have been observing you for quite sometime now. I see the way you look at me, but then you look away when look in your direction. I see the way you laugh at my jokes even when they’re not that funny, I know I suck at making jokes”. Sam takes in everything he says but still can’t find the words to say to him.
"I’ve always wanted to talk to you too. Tonight, I was looking for the perfect time to ask you to be my date for the wedding but I guess there had to be a little bit of drama for that to happen”. Sam couldn’t help but laugh at that and He laughed along with her.
“And you have a nice smile too”. Sam smiles looking into his eyes.
“Sam? Would you be my date for Tom and Katy’s wedding tomorrow?” He asked searching her eyes and waiting for an answer.
“Of course!” She says with a wide smile on her face.
They both appear to be happy. They looked into each other’s eyes still wearing a smile on their faces. It appears to be the perfect moment for them. Dave keeps starring into her face, his eyes sending a message across to her. There's a lot of tension building up between them with the uncertainty of what next to do. Katy and Tom stands from afar, holding each other's hand, looking at them and smiling.
"They're going to make such a wonderful couple" Katy comments still looking at them with the same smile hovering around her face.
"Just like you and I" Katy looks up to him and he plants a kiss on her lips and they shift their gaze back to Sam and Dave who are still starring deeply into each other's eyes, still unsure of what to do next.
“Sam would you mind if I…”
Sam draws him closer and sealed his lips with a deep kiss before he could ask. This is what she has always wanted ever since she started developing feelings for him. Now she’s happy he feels the same way too. This is going to be just the perfect event of her life.
