He's a Gemstone? How could he have possibly missed this?

According to Academy City's explanation, a Gemstone refers to individuals who gain their personal reality bending abilities without artificial interference, essentially natural-born espers. The probability of their occurrence is extremely low, with only about 50 individuals among billions worldwide.

And he was one of those 50.

After the elder's explanation, Kiryu finally understood. The reason he learned the Nanaya assassination arts and other knowledge so quickly and mastered them instantly wasn't because he was a genius, but due to the special abilities of a Gemstone... though the nature of this ability remained a mystery to the Nanaya clan. It seemed to make him excel at learning faster than even geniuses, no matter the subject.

What kind of useless ability is that?

It would be better not to have it!

Kiryu didn't have high hopes for it anyway—he had the 'Mystic Eyes of Death Perception', which was enough.

Strolling through the rainy streets, Academy City was bustling with activity.

Even with overcast skies and heavy rain, the students' energy could not be dampened.

Students with umbrellas, both boys and girls, walked all around.

Adults were a rare sight.

As Kiryu walked, he admired the scenery of Academy City.

Though he had seen the anime and read the novels in his past life and had some understanding of Academy City, reading about it was nothing compared to witnessing it firsthand. Despite the Nanaya clan not existing in the anime or novels he knew, they were present here!

This indicated that it might indeed be the world of A Certain Magical Index, but not necessarily the one he knew. An Alternate Universe perhaps.

Some things were better seen with one's own eyes.

Kiryu had only watched the anime and read the novels up to the end of the Third World War and had only seen Aleister Crowley teleport from the windowless building to attack the Right Seat of God. He hadn't reached the later plot developments before transmigrating.

Who knew what the current state of Academy City was?

As he walked, Kiryu unknowingly got lost again.

Despite following the signs, he still got lost!!

"Where am I?"

Pursing his lips, Kiryu felt the world's deep malice against him.

Looking around, he found the place sparsely populated, making it challenging to ask for directions.

Kiryu felt helpless.

Luckily, now that he was in Academy City, no matter how lost he got, he wouldn't end up deep in the mountains.

Just then, he heard footsteps ahead and looked up.

It was a petite girl with symmetrical pigtails who looked like an elementary school student.

Approaching the girl, Kiryu flashed his signature smile.

"Uh?"

The little girl raised her innocent eyes, looking curiously at the handsome onii-san in front of her, uncertain of his intentions.

"Hey there, little girl, can you—" Before he could finish...

It all happened in a split second—

*SCREECH!!!!!*

The screeching sound of tires skidding on the ground approached rapidly. A white car pulled up beside them—more accurately, it stopped by the little girl. The girl, bewildered, had not realized what was happening when several masked men jumped out of the car, grabbed her, and shoved her into the vehicle. Then they turned their attention to Kiryu, giving each other knowing glances.

"Is this guy also from the Kihara Clan?"

"It should only be the girl, Kihara Enshuu!"

"Who cares! This guy saw us! We can't let him go! Take him too!"

"Ah, he's just an unlucky fella! Blame the Kihara Clan, boy!!"

The Kihara Clan?

Kihara Enshuu?

Kiryu was taken aback, the little girl was from the Kihara Clan?

Who were they? He had no idea.

Maybe they were characters from the later stages of the plot?

The masked men surrounded Kiryu, reaching out to grab him.

"I advise you to be gentle..." Kiryu glanced at their hands and continued, "before you accidentally break your hands, after all, I also used to play like that when—"
