chapter 28
Episode 28 – Welcome Banquet for Freshmen
At the Royal Academy, an educational institution proud of the Bregern Empire, various events are held every year.
Among these events, the Thanksgiving Festival held two months before the end of the year was the only event that opened the inside of the Royal Academy to the public.
In other words, all events other than Thanksgiving are held within the Royal Academy, and only officials can attend.
Only Royal Academy officials and cadets were allowed to attend the welcome banquet for new students starting from lunch today.
Holding a welcome banquet for new students at the Royal Academy is a place to promote friendship on the surface, but in reality it was different.
Wherever you go, a faction is bound to form wherever many people gather.
In particular, in the Royal Academy, where nobles and commoners were mixed, reputation here had a great influence on their career after graduation.
This was applied more severely to cadets of commoner status than to cadets of aristocratic status.
For example, cadets of aristocratic status were regarded as ‘unusual people’ even if they did not belong to a specific faction because they were ‘aristocrats’ no matter what.
Of course, those who belong to the rogue like Damiron belong to the axis of relentlessly harassing targets that do not belong to factions.
However, the faculty and student council of the Royal Academy are concerned that such rogue cliques will cause talents in the ranks of commoners to lose before they bloom, so they take separate measures.
Part of that was a banquet held on a regular basis.
At this banquet, the Royal Academy’s faculty and student council keep close watch to prevent idiots like Damiron from harassing commoners or children of relatively low-ranking aristocratic families, such as Viscounts and Barons.
Thanks to these measures, the Royal Academy was rarely in a situation where idiots could be active.
Damiron also entered with the faction created outside her and tried to create her own faction here, but was horribly defeated in a confrontation with Alberto and now with her mind disintegrated, she is severely punished in the Vedoran family annex. Was being managed
Anyway, a lot of things used to happen at this freshman banquet.
Sometimes new couples are formed, old couples are torn apart, and there are people who work hard to appeal to themselves in order to improve their lives in the eyes of high-ranking nobles.
And Alberto Salihar Maydern, the eldest son of the Maydern family and known as an intermediate level sword expert, was entering the banquet hall with his lady-in-waiting, Nina Esselton.
–
“Ohhh, it’s decorated with great effort.”
Today is the day when the long-awaited welcome banquet for new students is finally held.
Starting from this banquet, most of the restrictions placed on new students will be lifted.
In other words, the day this banquet ended was the moment when life as a true Royal Academy cadet began.
“Nina. Today is a very important day, and I am sure you will behave well.”
I gave one last word of advice to Nina.
Nina understands my heart better than anyone else, but today I spoke to her in order to reconcile her mind.
“Don’t worry, boy.”
“Then, shall we go in?”
I met Nina’s gaze.
Her gaze met mine and Nina nodded her head.
That means, it’s ready now.
Go slowly.
She was wearing a newly-made formal dress, and white gloves with the Maydern family’s symbol on her hands could be seen.
Now, if you go inside, the full-scale war will begin.
An invisible, silent war called the aristocratic society.
So I finally stepped into the banquet hall.
–
As soon as the door of the banquet hall opened and Alberto appeared, people’s eyes instantly gathered toward the door of the banquet hall.
People couldn’t take their eyes off the two people who entered the banquet hall when the door opened.
All the male cadets couldn’t take their eyes off Nina.
Brown hair naturally curled up, clear, sapphire-like blue eyes, and white skin.
And the white and dark yellow dress was designed to emphasize everything about Nina with neat decorations without being too excessive.
‘Who are you?’
‘It’s the first time I’ve seen this face, from which noble family?’
On the other hand, this was also true for women.
Alberto, who appeared at the banquet hall, was literally a scion who had escaped from a masterpiece.
The black robe embroidered with gold thread, silver hair tinged with gold, eyes that seemed to be closed, and a sharp jawline were like works of art created by craftsmen with all their might.
Especially, the smile on his lips made many girls from noble families pay attention to him.
‘That person, Alberto?’
‘I’ve heard that he’s an intermediate level swordsman, but if that meticulous Sir Semiltern admits it, he must be a great swordsman.’
‘Is the woman in the back a lady-in-waiting? She is told that she has no fiancé…….’
As both men and women were looking at each other, the student council president overseeing the banquet applauded and drew everyone’s attention to himself.
“Come on! Everyone knows that it’s rude to the other person to stare dazed. We are cadets of the Royal Academy. Everyone, please behave appropriately.”
Only then did the people in the banquet hall come to their senses at the words of the student council president.
Among them, the first to approach was Ruel, who had spoken to Alberto first.
“Hey, Alberto. Did you just give your strength and come out today?”
Ruel, dressed in a passionate red robe as if trying to emphasize his red hair, admired Alberto’s figure.
Alberto also complimented Ruel after seeing him dressed up.
“Whoa, it looks like Ruel came out very well dressed today.”
“Anyway, it’s an event to announce that life at the Royal Academy is about to start in earnest. And, if you do well, you might start meeting a pretty girl. Is not it?”
“hahahahaha, Ruel is also a wonderful person, so surely there must be a lady who knows that coolness and approaches you?”
As they exchanged good wishes, Ruel and Alberto began to enjoy the banquet in earnest.
“This is Nina Esselton. I am serving Master Alberto.”
“This is Meriel Herio. I am serving Master Ruel.”
Nina also exchanged greetings with Ruel’s entourage, shouting at her.
Since Ruel was seen as Alberto’s friend to Nina, she also had to become friendly with the man who seemed to be the attendant.
Fortunately, Ruel’s attendant, Meriel, was also a kind person, so the two quickly became friends.
“Oh, then Alberto wakes up very early to practice?”
“They seem to be getting used to life at the Royal Academy, so they train hard.”
“Could you please tell Alberdo to take good care of our young master?”
“Even if you don’t say anything, the young master said that he would tell you various things while getting close to Ruel-nim.”
Nina and Meriel met for the first time, and within a few minutes, they started talking casually like longtime friends.
Well, most of the conversation was about what each of them was doing while serving the young master, and asking each other to take good care of the young master.
“It’s been a while since I’ve seen Nina so happy.”
“Me too. It’s the first time I’ve seen Meriel talk so happily. Doesn’t that mean that your attendants treat you comfortably?”
“Nina is a bit special. She is also a very important person to me.”
“That’s right.”
Ruel nodded his head at Alberto’s words.
If it’s enough to bring you to the Royal Academy, it means that you’re the closest to me.
Meriel, Ruel’s attendant, also spent a long time by his side.
That’s why Ruel was able to understand Alberto’s words about being an important person.
“By the way, where are the others?”
“I was taken away by relatives before you came.”
“Oh, I guess.”
Alberto nodded at the word ‘relatives’ mentioned by Ruel.
Most noble families marry nobles, so if you cross a couple of bridges, you can meet a tolerable noble.
However, most of the nobility considers only the immediate family, their spouses, and their children as family, and treats the rest as if they were strangers.
The reason is, of course, the issue of inheritance of property.
As more people are recognized as family, the more property is divided, so in most noble families, only a limited number of people were counted as family.
While Alberto was immersed in his thoughts, musical instruments started playing to announce that the ball was about to begin.
“It’s the beginning of the prom.”
“Then, let’s each choose a partner and dance.”
Alberto and Ruel separated from each other and started looking for a partner to dance with.
At the banquet of nobles, the partner who dances at the ball is not very important.
I don’t think it’s strange even if my fiancé dances with someone of the opposite s*x because I think it’s to share friendship and promote friendship.
So Alberto also started dancing step by step with a girl from an aristocratic family.
“Ma, nice to meet you. I am Hanael of the Istanya family.”
“Nice to meet you. Lady Istanya. I am Alberto of the Maydern family.”
Alberto was dancing like this at the suggestion of a slightly smaller woman.
Since they are moving according to the other person’s stride, the appearances of Alberto and Hanael were like a painting.
“Do you know the top of the wind field?”
“Yes, I know. They were being attacked by a group of orcs, so I saved them once.”
Hanael’s words brought Alberto back to his old memories.
I once saved a group of orcs from being attacked and were in danger, and received a couple of quality flour sacks as a gift.
“That caravan belongs to my family. My father asked me to say thank you when I meet someone from the Maidern family someday. At that time, thank you for saving our top people. Thanks to that, we were able to complete the transaction safely.”
“Ha ha ha. It’s okay. Young lady. I didn’t do it for the sake of gratitude. I just helped because I had to help.”
Alberto spoke his truth.
His saving the people was not an act of hoping for a reward, and he took the least expensive flour because he said he would repay him somehow.
However, Alberto’s answer caused Hanael a misunderstanding.
‘As expected, he is handsome, has both skills, and is even humble… …. On top of that, he’s a really nice person who even cares about the other person. A person who marries someone like this must be really happy, right?’
Alberto was only telling the truth, but Haniel thought he was speaking humbly.
On top of that, he even showed consideration for the other person.
Indeed, any woman could not help falling in love with it.
‘However, as a daughter of a viscount family, I can’t look down on such a proud person.’
However, paradoxically, because he is such a great Alberto, he seldom thought of having a romantic relationship.
Why, isn’t there such a thing?
If the gap between the other person and me is too large, it is difficult to even take a rational approach.
That was exactly the case with Haniel.
She is the daughter of a viscount family that runs one of the top companies.
However, Alberto was a scion of a promising count family who was considered to be a sword master.
There was no room for her to intervene in any part.
“Thank you for dancing with me.”
‘I hope you meet a good person and live a happy life.’
Hanael swallowed the sadness in her heart, greeted her politely, and withdrew.
However, her appearance was that of a woman who had lost heart.
“Young lady, I hope you have a good day too.”
Alberto politely greeted Haniel as he left.
‘As expected, it’s something to do and see. Thanks to that, my reputation goes up.’
“Whoops, as expected. I am not wrong.”
Alberto smiled and went back to his seat.
But does he know?
He looked like a heartless man who used his appearance as a tool to seduce a woman and give her hope, then kicked that hope away.
And there was one person who didn’t like the way he looked.
