A NEET’s Guide to the Parallel World: Healer, the Strongest Cheat?

Chapter 63: Similar

The next day.

When I entered the classroom everyone turned to look at me at the same time. Whenever I made eye contact with them they would turn away quickly, all except for Patrick who was staring out a window. The class started, it seems like today is how to sense magic power.

“Please split into pairs.”

Oh Nem is right next to me.

“Nem, you want to partner up?”

Oh Nem is taken well then Toa.

“Toa, do you want to party up?”

“Huh? Sure.”

Oh then Sierra.

“Sierra did you want to partner up? ”

Oh it looks like I’ll be alone in this world too.

“Nito why don’t you partner up with Patrick?”

The teacher spoke up.

“Huh? Patrick huh?”

Although there were quite a few people left it seem Patrick was the same as me and no one wanted to partner up. I walked over and sat next to Patrick at the window.

“Now then, mages should be able to detect the enemies position through the waves their magic power gives off.”

Everyone began to sense magical power but I’ve never done it before so I don’t know what to do.

“So….what do we do?”

“Weren’t you listening? I feel your magic power and you feel mine.”

“Feel it right…. How do I do that?”

“Huh? You don’t know how to feel magic power?”

Patrick is probably wondering something like ‘How did I lose to a guy like this?’.

“Fine I’ll do it first.”

I sighed.

Facing me Patrick closed his eyes and began concentrate.

“Does it take long to sense the magic? ”

“No…. It shouldn’t but….why….why can’t I feel anything?”

Patrick muttered to himself.

“Huh? You can’t? ”

“Everyone? Did you do it?”

After a bit the teacher starts walking around to check progress.

“What do you mean you can’t do it, is it that difficult?”

“No, anyone should be able to do it. ”

“Then why?” I was doubting Patrick’s skill.

“Its not my fault. I just can’t feel your magic power.”

“So what does it mean if you can’t feel magic power? Should I call the teacher?”

“Wait, I don’t want to be humiliated any more than this.”

“But if you can’t do it then it can’t be helped right? Let the teacher show you how to do it once.”

“No, thats..”

“Teacher, excuse me!”

I ignored Patrick and called for the teacher.

“Whats the matter?”

“Could you confirm my magic power please?”

When I said that the teacher looked at Patrick curiously.

“Alright, watch. ”

The teacher began to concentrate on me.

“Its not something you can learn just by memorizing, you have to see and read the magic waves coming from the other person.”

“I- I see.”

Maybe it really is simple, other wise this teaching method isn’t very good.

“……Hmm? That’s strange.”

The teacher opened her eyes.

“I can’t feel it.”

“You cant?”

“Right?”

Patrick jumped on what the teacher said.

“I see what’s happening, this is a very rare case.”

“Rare?”

“Yes, you probably couldn’t feel Patrick either correct?”

“I’m guessing this isn’t something that happens normally?”

“Correct, you see Patrick is one of the best students in this class.”

“Excuse me, what are you saying?”

“The problem isn’t Patrick, its you Nito.”

“Me?”

“Yes, how do I explain this? Magic power is always leaking from living things so mages are able to read it and detect the position and relative ability of the enemy. But skilled mages can sometimes hide their magic ability. There are only two ways to hide it.”

“So you’re saying I’m hiding it? I don’t have any magic tools and I just heard about this now so?”

“The other possibility is when the magic power is several times higher.”

“When the magic power is higher?”

“Yes in that case you wouldn’t be able to feel the other person’s magic power. However, the superior one should still be able to feel it.”

When the teacher said that the entire class looked at me.

“Nito, you..”

Everyone looked at me strongly.

“Wait, I can’t feel Patrick’s magic power.”

Then I noticed it, there was a clear wave of magic power there.

“How is Patrick’s magic power?”

The teacher asked when she saw my expression, I could clearly feel his magic now.

“That was really easy. ”

Apparently I was the odd one out here.

“This is something to be proud about.”

The teacher smiled happily.

“Who are you? Weren’t you a healer?”

Patrick was surprised but, he also looked to be in awe.

“As far as I know, such a mage only exists in fairy tales and myths. To be honest, I don’t know how to explain it, but … this is a real honor. Nito, you should be proud.”

I found myself just wishing that I was normal. I was bullied by Saeki my entire high-school career so I couldn’t live normally.

“Master is amazing, even without magic he can defeat monsters in one blow!”

I heard Nem in the distance and wanted her to not talk so much but everyone seemed to gather around her.

“Nito is amazing.”

“He is, master is amazing!”

“Thats right. Masa- I mean Nito is strong so, don’t make fun of him.”

The people around Toa had the same expression as those around Nem.

“I am a healer, I didn’t lie.”

I told Patrick.

“But to have the much magic power.”

“Its not normal is it.”

“No, it amazing. It makes sense now why you could deflect my magic with your bare hands. ”

“Oh you could see that huh?”

“You didn’t use magic did you? ”

“It wasn’t necessary.”

With a small smile the teacher returned to the podium.

“You said your name was Nito?”

“Thats what I said…”

“It doesn’t seem like you’re socializing, if it stays that way you’ll be isolated here.”

“I don’t need to be told by you.”

“I was just trying to be nice, if you know then I won’t say anything else.”

Patrick really didn’t say anything after that.

*

I invited Toa to lunch but it seems like she’s going to eat with her new friends today.

It really turned out like Patrick said, I was isolated. Nem and Toa left class as well, only I was left behind.

“I told you, that’s what happens to people like you.”

“Huh?”

Patrick, who was in the exact same boat, walked by me sarcastically.
