chapter 3
003. Treatment of the elderly
I felt strangely bad. Selene almost stopped using magic when Vesta tried to touch Endymion without hesitation.
‘Something, it felt like mine was being taken away.’
I actually had him, so it wasn’t wrong to say that he was mine. It didn’t feel like a leap to be taken away, though.
‘I didn’t like it anyway.’
Selene was well aware that it was an uncharacteristic overreaction. No matter how well-behaved Vesta’s personality was, he passed it off as if he were looking at an inanimate object, but that didn’t work out this time.
‘For what?’
Selene didn’t understand her feelings either. That would be the case, because it was the first time she had ever consumed her emotions like this for something.
‘No… I wouldn’t call it a problem. It was a response that would come naturally if someone tried to take something away from her. So it’s not wrong.’
She was subtly self-justifying, but Selene was relieved enough of the awkwardness with that. Feeling much better, she sent her gaze, which seemed a bit sharp, to the other side.
“So, what did you come to see me for? Vesta?”
“Huh? Ah, ehehehe…”
Vesta, who let out an idiotic laugh, had a pretty bright expression as if her fear had gone.
“I’m here to ask you something.”
“Please.”
The expected sea. Selene got tired of saying that, so she put away her introduction and wanted to get right to the point.
‘He’s a troublesome guy, but he’ll give you a decent reward when you ask him for a favor.’
If you don’t like the reward after hearing it, you can just refuse it. She waited for her words to come out of Vesta’s mouth with a rather plain expression.
“I have the data I brought, I would like you to analyze it.”
“What material.”
It happened often. Vesta, who always picks up rare books from somewhere, didn’t have the ability to interpret them, so she asked for an interpretation like this.
And the reason why she’s called Selene is that among all the people Vesta knows, there is no one who is theoretically as knowledgeable about her magic as she is.
“I happened to find something lying around my house. It turned out that it was a book about another world?”
“A different world?”
Selene also showed interest in a rather interesting topic. Vesta, who was in high spirits at that appearance, took out a book she was excited to commission.
“This is it, as long as you interpret it, it doesn’t matter how you use the data in it for research purposes.”
“That’s normal, is there anything else?”
“…Well, then I’ll give you this too!”
When Selene refused, Vesta hurriedly took a pair of her silver rings from her pocket.
“What is that?”
“This is a ring that can make someone obey. Once you put it on and make the target you want to obey put this ring on, the target will listen to you no matter how high the level is.”
“Hmm…”
Honestly, it’s not a bad ability, but I wanted to use it somewhere. Selene rings for a while, but as she stares, a good idea comes to her mind and the corners of her mouth rise slightly.
“Okay, then let’s pretend the deal was established.”
“Really? Really?! Now, this is an advance payment! I was going crazy wondering what the book was about! Anyway, I’m glad you took care of it…”
“Noisy.”
“Nah…”
Selene, who received what she was going to receive from Vesta and kicked her out of her, headed to her study where Endymion was after a while.
“Are you here?”
“Yes, would you like to lend a hand for a moment?”
“Yes?”
I didn’t know what it meant, but Endymion held out her hand as instructed. Then Selene put the silver ring she was holding on his hand in an instant.
“What is this…?”
It happened in an instant, like the wind, so Endymion looked bewildered. Selene just laughed at him.
At some point, the same ring was also worn on her hand.
“No big deal. I just thought I’d mark it as mine so I wouldn’t lose it.”
As for the usefulness of her ring, Selene kept her mouth shut.
‘I have no intention of using that function anyway.’
So far, that is.
Anyway, Endymion, who suddenly put on something that looked like a couple ring, looked at it and put on a blank expression. It was an expression that he couldn’t easily get out of, as if he was still in the afterglow.
“Why did you not like wearing the same ring as me?”
Seeing this, Selene asked in a hint. But she had a chilling smile on her face that could never be hinted at.
“No… it can’t be.”
Because of this, Endymion reflexively shook his head. His answer was very quick, perhaps because the expression on her face was so frightening.
“Really?”
Was that the right answer? Selene gradually loosened her expression and returned to her original color. Her expression, which was even quite soft, revealed some of her happy feelings.
‘I don’t know why.’
Endymion gave a strange look at his employer’s rapidly changing attitude, but as soon as Selene’s eyes met, she erased it as if it had never happened.
“I have a request, so I have to do that. You just have to stay there.”
“Yes… then.”
Endymion sets his eyes on the book again. Selene looked at him with a calm gaze, and only after a few minutes had passed did she begin her work.
“By the way… May I ask who he was?”
By the time she finished reading a book. Endymion brought something out of her mouth that she hadn’t been able to ask. Selene, who was reading the books Vesta entrusted to her, flinched at his question.
“That’s… why do you ask?”
“No particular reason.”
It really was. I just wondered who the existence that came to the tower was. Despite these elaborate explanations, Selene felt that she was in disbelief.
“Isn’t there another reason?”
“For any other reason…”
“No, no… I was sensitive for a moment.”
As she was persistent, Selene, who seemed like she would ask, relaxed her momentum belatedly to see if she had regained her senses. Endymion felt a little strange about her appearance, but she didn’t attach much meaning to it.
‘He must be angry because he broke his concentration.’
From now on, I’ll keep an eye on her and bring up the story. Selene’s clear voice flowed into Endymion’s ears, who had learned a lesson today as well.
“It’s Vesta, a dragon I’ve known for a long time. It’s not the kind of person with a good-natured personality to get close to.”
“Is that so, dragon… Uh, did you say dragon? Just?”
“Yes.”
“…….”
Dragon isn’t even the name of his dog. Endymion even suspected that Selene might have said something wrong, but she seemed to be telling the truth.
‘It’s okay… You have to be at least a dragon to come here all of a sudden.’
If it wasn’t for that, Selene might have taken her breath away sooner.
‘I finally understand the situation from a moment ago.’
Somehow, I wanted to treat Selene without hesitation. If it was a dragon, it would have been worth it. Because they are supreme beings from birth.
In addition, Endymion also had this thought.
“That’s great.”
“What?”
“You killed the dragon’s spirit.”
“…….”
Even if the wizard of the tower is great, the difference in years of life is different from that of dragons. There would be a huge difference from the starting point because of the talent and lifespan he had.
“Is that so amazing…? I don’t know. It’s a bit hard for me to say this with my own mouth, but I’ve already been a tower wizard since Vesta was a child.”
“You’re young…? You don’t look like that?”
“Of course it is now. It’s been a long time.”
“Uh… Selene-sama, how is your age this year…?”
Took-
The book falls to the floor. Selene just turned her head and looked at Endymion, just as she had been reading a book while leaning against her back.
‘Should I have pretended not to know?’
It was such an expression that was clearly embarrassed, as if he hadn’t thought about revealing his age. Endymion looked back to see if he had been too ignorant.
But the water has already been spilled.
“…Not many.”
“Yes?”
“Not many!”
“…Yes.”
In a situation where a lot of things were revealed, there was no way Selene’s words could be trusted, but Endymion behaved respectfully this time as well.
“This, this…!”
Selene also made a tearful expression, probably guessing what he was thinking.
* * *
It must have been a taboo among taboos for women to talk about their age. Endymion rebuked my mouth for saying something I couldn’t contain.
“Are you feeling better now?”
“Sometimes you know who’s upset.”
“…….”
You’re right, the words went all the way to the top of my throat, but I couldn’t have made more mistakes. Towards Selene, who was already troubled, Endymion pondered over how to relieve her mood.
‘Wouldn’t it solve itself if left alone?’
I came to the conclusion that neglect is the answer. It was an undeniable fact that the annoyance had some influence in the process.
“But what was that thing you just saw?”
“Speak now-“
As Selene opened her eyes sharply, immediately aware of her trick to change the topic, Endymion, who was only sitting in her chair, approached her without hesitation.
As he got closer to her, Selene widened her eyes in surprise and the tip of her ears turned slightly red at the scent of him tickling the tip of her nose.
“May I dare take a look?”
“…As you like. But you won’t understand when you see it.”
It really was. He picked up the book that Selene had dropped a while ago and read it once, but it was written in a language she couldn’t understand at all.
“What was it about?”
Well, that wasn’t the point. I barely turned the topic around, but if I gave up here, everything was in vain.
“…It was about another world.”
“Another… world, did you just say another world…?”
“Yes.”
Her eyes trembled like aspen trees, as if her composure was shaking uncharacteristically for Endymion. Selene stared blankly at him as if wondering.
“Why is that?”
To her question, Endymion remained silent as his eyes were fixed on her old book.
‘A different world….’
It was information he had been searching for ever since he came to this world.
