A Sinner’s Chance

Chapter 9

"I can't let you continue this!" A blonde haired man's voice rang out, directed towards a dark haired man in bloodstained lab coat. "This isn't what she would have wanted, you know this!"

The dark haired man looked at his colleague callously, his voice low, laced with anger. "What do you know?! Everything is for her sake, yet you have the gall to tell me what she would want!"

There was a moment where the two simply stared at each other, before they both suddenly moved. The sound of a gunshot resounded as each pulled a handgun out, followed by the low grunt of the dark haired man as he fell back in pain. He had been a millisecond too slow, and he had paid the price. The blonde man rushed over and kicked the dark haired man's gun away before aiming his own at the man bleeding on the floor once more. "I'm sorry, Velen, but I will no longer allow you to pursue your twisted goal, not when it causes so much suffering." The blonde man's hand quivered for a second, before his finger pulled the trigger. "I'm sorry, friend."

With a deep pain in my head I awoke to find myself in what seemed to be an endless black expanse.

"What an interesting dream, my little kitten." A sultry voice suddenly rang as a woman began to materialize in front of me. "What a tragic way to go out, betrayed by the one you called friend." The woman seductively swaggered over to me, the loose sheer cloth she wore, barely covering the important parts as it swayed with her steps. Her soft and flowing pink hair tickled my face as she straddled me, and it was to my surprise that I discovered I was no longer a young girl. Short hair, normal ears and a bloodstained lab coat all pointed to my appearance from my past.

"Who are you?" I asked, my voice low and masculine as it had once been.

The woman smiled as she pressed her face close to mine, before suddenly pulling away. "It's a secret, my little kitten, it isn't everyday such an anomaly is born into this world, so I'll leave you to guess for a while." She suddenly stood and sat on a luxurious chair that had shimmered into existence. "I have two gifts for you, the first I have already given. I have averted the eyes of the System and prevented your death. The second is a skill you should find useful when you awaken."

I sat up as I looked at the strange woman before me. She was like a piece of erotic art given human form, yet for all her beauty I still found her suspicious. "What is the cost of your 'gifts' then, I doubt you saved me on a whim?"

The woman's mouth frowned as she pouted. "How could you doubt me? Everything I do is for the good of the universe." Her expression suddenly shifted, as she smiled cunningly. "But you're right, I need some help, and an anomaly like you is perfect to provide it, though you are currently somewhat lacking, I'll call in my favor at another date. For now, you should focus on becoming strong, when you feel like it, make a trip to the Divine City of Luxuria, and I'll seek you out, but don't keep me waiting too long, okay?"

Her voice trailed teasingly as she disappeared, just as suddenly as she had appeared and I was left with more questions than before, now owing a favor to a being I didn't even know the identity of. As the black void collapsed I couldn't help but wonder what other issues my new life was going to bring me.
