Chapter 56: the ancient clan: war on the horizon.
**"Let it burn… let it all burn,"** Void murmured, his grin spreading wider.
The first light of dawn broke, and Void took a deep breath, savoring the moment. He could feel the countless souls waiting for him, his body trembling with excitement as the world itself seemed to shudder under a solemn veil.
Ahead, the orc army gathered. Have you ever seen a thousand people together? No? Yes? He chuckled to himself—this wasn't thousands, or millions, or even billions. The sheer number was beyond counting, like grains of green sand on a beach, each one brimming with a menacing aura.
Just as the giant king told him, these were all Rank 0 and Rank 1 beings. Void felt like a child, ready to watch his favorite movie. And what was Void's favorite movie? **War.**
**"The feeling just before war breaks out... that solemn atmosphere. The air stiffens, even animals, insects, and trees can feel it. The wild wind rushes over the land like rivers meeting the sea... Your feet rooted to the ground. It's all an amazing feeling,"** Void said, smiling.
**"Don't you just love the smell of war? The scent of blood… the taste of death?"** Void asked, turning to his two slaves.
They remained silent, their expressions shifting.
**"Fine, fine… don't worry. We're not fighting. I'm just here to collect souls. Even a large number of Rank 0 souls, once converted to Rank 2, will be worth something, right?"** He grinned.
**"The war starts in seconds. So, Anya, what are your thoughts?"** Void asked.
**"Me?"** Anya pointed to herself, surprised.
**"Yes, you. Tell me."**
**"I... I don't know,"** Anya muttered.
Void sighed, his grin fading into a frown. **"Can't you even express your thoughts?"**
Turning to Linkir, Void asked, **"Alright, Linkir, what do you think of this war?"**
Linkir glanced away, avoiding his gaze. **"I think... you'll grow stronger. Much stronger."**
But in her mind, she thought, **"I'm still stuck at Rank 1… If I want to survive, I have to leave him."**
Void caught the hidden meaning behind her words but only smiled. He was patient. He was waiting for the day they would fully betray him. That would be the day he killed them.
**"Yes, you both need to get stronger. You're too weak. What use are weak slaves?"** Void murmured, as Linkir and Anya clenched their fists.
**"And so it begins…"** Void said as the sky darkened with a massive army. Wings filled the heavens, painting it in different colors as they approached.
The first attackers were the dragons, their hatred for the orcs palpable. Orcs were notorious for hunting dragons and breeding abominations, making them despised by all races.
**Boom!**
The dragons dove, clashing with the orcs. The sound of the impact echoed through the land, leaving cracks and craters in its wake. Beings died by the dozens, and the earth was torn apart by the carnage.
Void grinned as he watched, appreciating the chaos like a piece of art. Meanwhile, Anya and Linkir stepped forward. To Void, it was beauty. But to them, it was a nightmare, watching fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters fighting for their lives.
**"You see…"** Void said, still gazing at the battle, **"there's one thing I truly hate."**
Linkir's heart skipped a beat. **"What did I do this time?"** she thought, but then looked around—Void had vanished. She glanced to her side and realized Anya was gone too.
While everyone's focus was on the war, Anya had slipped away. With all the noise and chaos, it was easy to lose track of her.
---
*Forest *
In the forest, Anya moved swiftly, her body transforming into her true Aeron form. The white dragonborn raced through the underbrush, her scales glistening as she ran.
**"Brother… Brother… I'll see you soon,"** Anya thought with determination, her heart pounding. She chose not to fly, knowing Void could easily spot her from the sky. Instead, she kept her head low, glancing back frequently.
**"This is my one chance… I have to make it!"** she thought, her resolve growing stronger with every step. Her sleek, 1.6-meter scaled body tore through the landscape, covering thousands of miles in mere strides.
She didn't know how long she would have to run, but she wouldn't stop until she was safe.
And then—**screech!**
Anya skidded to a halt, carving a massive ravine into the earth. She froze, eyes wide as a figure loomed ahead, smiling at her.
The being walked toward her, its footsteps echoing in the forest.
**"Oh, hello,"** came the chilling voice.
---
*Second layer of space:*
In the second layer of space, a battered body floated, her eyes closed. The female figure was bruised and bloodied, her form suspended in the void.
Around her, countless tiny dots of multi-colored energy gathered—this was cultivation Qi, swirling around her in vast quantities.
**"After an entire era…"** she whispered, her voice laced with exhaustion and triumph.
**"I've finally broken through to Quasi Rank 3."**
She laughed, her body glowing with an ethereal white light. In the vast emptiness of space, her aura illuminated the darkness. Though just a speck in the grand cosmos, the energy she now wielded spanned thousands of light years.
Her wounds healed as her power surged, the sword in her hand thrumming with newfound strength.
Now she understood. The gap between her past self and her current state was unimaginable. She had touched the infinite, her power now limitless.
Even as a cultivator, she had grasped a law—**the law of light**—adding it to her skills and techniques. Her smile grew, knowing that even staying here in the second layer of space held no pressure for her now.
But there was no need to remain here.
The third layer awaited—a higher dimension. This divide the universal beings from galaxy-level beings .Destroying a universe at Quasi Rank 3 required physical strength and half-mastered laws, but at Rank 3, it was a matter of willpower—universe-shattering with a mere thought.
**********
She opened the gateway to the first layer of space and stepped through. Now, she could finally help her son. The ancient clans, as old as the universe itself, held terrifying power—each of them boasting Rank 3 beings. But as a quasi-Rank 3, she was ready to lay down her life if it meant saving her son.
**"I'm coming, son,"** she whispered with a soft smile as she emerged into the first layer of space—the world we see now.

Shen Ye and Chu Su descended their mountain. Today was the day of the war.
All human race members had been called to gather at a specific location, where they would fight alongside the dragon race. Due to the actions of the sword demon and the deep-seated hatred the demon and giant races had for humans, the two races had formed an alliance to fight them. The elves, however, remained neutral. Then there were the beasts—the most plentiful race.
Yet, most of them had low intelligence, except for their beast lords and kings, who had chosen to remain silent thus far.
For the first time, Shen Ye witnessed his master pulling a ship out from his sleeve. In the immortal cultivation world, the strong ones had the ability to shrink large objects and carry them this way. The ship, nearly 400 meters long, was reserved for the elites. As Shen Ye watched, more and more ships appeared, along with countless elder cultivators stepping forward to join them.
Shen Ye felt a chill run down his spine. He wasn't sure if it was from excitement or surprise at seeing this grand scene unfold before his eyes. Senior disciples, personal disciples from various elders, and peak masters emerged, each one radiating power.
The difference in their auras, movements, and clothing was unmistakable.
**"Follow me,"** Chu Su commanded, pulling out her sword and gracefully stepping onto the ship.
Shen Ye smirked and jumped aboard. **"All this flying on swords is just for show,"** he thought. **"They can all fly on their own. This is nothing more than mental fortitude training."**
Once aboard, Shen Ye was relieved that his protagonist aura wasn't drawing jealousy from the senior disciples. Even though he was standing next to Chu Su, known as the cold beauty, none of the senior brothers seemed to care.
The mood aboard the ship was serious, with elders and disciples alike wearing grim expressions. As the ship set off, the air grew heavy with anticipation.
---
Minutes into the journey, they encountered armies from different kingdoms mounted on horses. Cultivators flew alone, joining the ranks. Various sects also appeared, their numbers swelling. Their dragon allies soon joined them, with the stronger dragons siding with the humans, while the weaker ones attacked the lascivious orcs.
As more and more humans and allies joined the cause, the atmosphere aboard the ship grew increasingly solemn. Elders and sect masters gathered in hushed discussions at the bow of the ship.
Shen Ye's master stood at the forefront, a desolate aura surrounding him as he gazed into the distance. Shen Ye noticed the weight his master seemed to carry, a burden resting heavily on his shoulders.
Shen Ye approached him .
. **"You should rest and prepare for the war ahead,"** Sword Demon said, his brow furrowed.
**"I am prepared, Master. But I can tell your mind is not on this war… it's on something else,"** Shen Ye replied, gazing out alongside him as the wind brushed his face.
Sword Demon looked at him with a plain expression. **"You have good insight. Yes… my thoughts are elsewhere."**
**"Master, I would be honored if you shared your concerns with me,"** Shen Ye said, a note of sincerity in his voice.
Sword Demon sighed. **"Perhaps it's time I confided in someone. Maybe it will ease my mind."** Find adventures at empire
He paused, then began his tale.
---
"I was born from the union of two incredibly powerful beings. One was a fierce female warrior, the other… a god of war.
No one knows the true origins of the being known as the God of War. He wasn't human; he was a member of an ancient clan. The ancient clans are beings of higher order, capable of taking any form when they land on a planet. But once they choose a form, it is the only one they can maintain on that planet, so they must choose carefully.
The God of War was sent here to open a portal for his clan to cross over and devour every living thing on this planet. But he fell in love with the strong female warrior instead… and she was none other than the sect master of the Quinlan Sect—my mother."
---
Meanwhile, the sect master emerged from the second layer of space, but not where she intended. Unable to fully control her strength, she materialized in an unexpected location—the orc's territory.
The area was eerily empty, save for one creature. As she glanced to her side, her gaze fell upon a white-scaled being staring back at her.
**"Oh… hello,"** she said, surprised, as she curiously regarded the creature before her.
