chapter 16
16 – Rendezvous
Rendezvous
Since it was a simple training to visit the meeting place after looking at the map, all groups gathered without a single dropout.
After setting up the tent, while everyone was resting, Etila, the instructor in charge of class A, came out and called the captains. Three-setter sprints off and listens to the other captains and instructors before she returns to group 7.
“Look at this – I got a token!”
Sesset speaks while showing the token in his hand. The token with the Legandia Academy coat of arms wasn’t actually a gold coin, but it sparkled in gold.
“We’re so close to last that we only got one!”
“Wow- Exciting.”
Sesset with a bright voice meets Rai’s low-pitched voice that is not exciting at all. Cesset, who was running with a bright expression, suddenly collapses and throws her token in front of the three of them.
“I was really scolded for throwing away supplies… I hate Instructor Etila…”
“You should have told me why.”
“Absolutely not. This is a card that will save me. There’s no advantage to Joe in a similar situation.”
She used to make a sad face, but as if she had never done that before, she smiled and raised her body.
After correcting her posture, Sesset tells the story she heard from her instructor.
You can think of tokens as Joe’s score. It is a simple rule that the group with the most tokens wins.
However, tokens can be exchanged for free. You are free to exchange what you exchange, but you are allowed to change the vest.
“That’s an annoying rule.”
“Yes, I think it’s a test of flexibility. We’ll see if you spend important points as needed. Or how you use them. Since it’s an individual evaluation anyway, there are many people who don’t value group scores, so I think exchanges are surprisingly frequent. .”
“Hey- I’ll catch two rabbits if I’m good.”
Sesset and Rai smile meaningfully. When Seset, who looks cute but has an evil expression, and Rai, who doesn’t know what he’s going to do, look at each other and smile, Zeroa avoids her gaze in fear for some reason.
This is a safe zone, so there is no need for a night watch, so you can sleep in peace and be mindful of safety accidents.
“Enjoy your meal! Then I go to sleep!”
The sun has gone down, but it’s still early to sleep. Sesset, who had to somehow preserve her stamina, was wasting every minute and second. Even though she is not a pure mage, there are some academy students who are preparing to sleep early to see if they think similarly to Se-set.
‘Why are guys with a lot of stamina so diligent? Please think about the person who chases after you.’
Cesset looks at them with her eyes narrowed, then as if thinking of something, she looks at Arya.
“Let’s sleep with Aria~”
“Yes, I should go to bed early too.”
As she takes Arya’s hand and heads for the tent, the eyes of the academy students naturally turn to her.
“Uhh~ I sleep hugging Roberto when I sleep, but he’s not there today.”
“Are you already sleeping with your fiancé?”
“No, no. It’s my doll. Isn’t Arya hugging her doll?”
“I don’t really… But I do want to cuddle.”
She speaks quietly and shakes her head. Aria is cute.
“Then let’s sleep together tonight.”
“Yes? That…”
Dragging Aria’s hand, who is ashamed of her words, Sessett heads for her tent.
“f*ck… Why am I not three three. f*ck…”
“Lily, wonderful.”
“No!!! Goddess gets dirty with three three!”
As the academy students watching wailed, three-set, who was opening the tent, stopped and looked behind her to see Aria.
Unsure why she is doing this, Sese-Seth approaches Aria, who tilts her head, and goes into her arms and hugs her. Arya, momentarily frozen by her unexpected behavior, looks down at Sessett and strokes her hair.
“hehehe, let’s go in.”
After opening the tent door and letting Aria in first, Sessett enters her legs first, then removes her face and smiles mischievously.
“Well then, good night everyone.”
After showing a scene that will thrill the night, the three sets disappear into the tent with a good night greeting. Her academy students, who had been watching her blankly, ignite her fighting spirit belatedly towards her, but they do not have the courage to storm into her tent where her aria is, so they only rot inside her.
“What a great captain.”
“Ha ha ha… I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep either.”
“Are you standing?”
“Yes?! No-!”
She screams in surprise, and when people she knows stare at her, she turns her head away in embarrassment.
“What is it, Seriously, Kitchen!”
“Raikang!!”
A girl comes running and she slams Rai on her shoulder as hard as she can. Rai straightened forward, but the girl told Rai as if he didn’t care about her.
“Raicang, Raicang. What are you doing?”
As the girl looks down, her blue hair flowing down to her waist, Rai touches her waist and raises her body.
“You, don’t do that because it’s never cute.”
“Which one? Lycan? Or shoulder bread?”
“It was a real shoulder strap. Whatever it is, don’t do both.”
“I hate it, Raicang is cute.”
In an atmosphere that seems to be swayed rather by Rai, who does her own thing, Zero knows blankly. Sporting her long blue hair, this girl is someone Zero Ah also knows.
Violet and Sojeta, who are said to be geniuses that appear only once in 100 years, entered the academy. And when talking about geniuses who stood out from her childhood, it was this girl who came up next after the two.
Diana Deshbella. The second daughter of the Deshbela family, famous for their knightly family, and a blessed talent. Her swordsmanship is said to be a bit behind the previous two, but she has a bright and sociable personality, and she has versatility that clearly sets her apart from others in all areas, including tactics, magic, and alchemy.
She
She mainly uses a sword, but if necessary, she can use any weapon, such as a spear or an axe, equally with a sword, she says. What’s even more surprising is that she’s not a hard worker. I listen to her lectures properly, but no one has ever seen her training by spending time with others or going out to play in her personal time.
However, she could count on her fingers the number of people equal to her, whether in practice or theory. Even those who are said to be equal to her are all skills that she gained by working hard in one field, so if she makes up her mind and works hard, she may be able to beat her at any time.
Because of her outstanding skills and getting along with many people, she was a person that even Zero could not recognize.
“Hello, Zeroa. No, no. Nice to meet you. Zeroa-kun.”
Diana puts her fingers in the air as if she were wearing her skirt and politely bows slightly with her knees. She then chuckles if she’s having fun and she laughs.
“Do you know me?”
“I hit and fought with Philia, but I can’t help but not know.”
“It wasn’t a hit and run fight…”
“I wish I had won.”
Perhaps it is a habit to bump into her shoulder, Diana laughs and bumps into Zeroa’s shoulder. Fortunately, she doesn’t hit with all her might like Lai. Leaving Zero Ah, who is briefly fluttered by the weak scent of flowers, Diana approaches her Rai who is patting her waist.
“Hey, lycan. How much is lycan?”
“One hundred and twenty million three thousand seventy-nine gold coins.”
“Can I buy continents with that? With tokens, not gold.”
Zeroa, thinking that they were close enough to talk casually with each other, looked at Diana in surprise at Diana’s words about exchanging her rai for tokens.
Rai looked at her face in awe, and then she waved her hand in annoyance.
“I’m not going. Don’t say anything strange and go.”
“Why? Because there is an aria? Our group has a princess, but the princess can’t be rubbed by the goddess?”
“Then you’ll have your head cut off for blasphemy.”
“Ehehehehe, Leah is nice and will take care of you.”
At her name, Liara, Zeroa tilted her head and understood it belatedly. The name of her 6th princess, who is in her same grade, is Emilia Shane Brickville. Although she is a middle name like Arya, she is a direct descendant of the emperor.
Seeing Diana calling Emilia by her nickname, it was Zero who wondered how sociable she was.
“Actually, Lia also wants an instructor. My group came in 3rd place and got 10 tokens. Let’s get ahead on Leah Line. What a good idea, isn’t it?”
“Not for sale.”
Suddenly, Sesset, with only her face sticking out from the tent, is frowning. Looking back at her, Diana greets her with a smile.
“Hello, three three. Long time no see.”
“Look at the innocent smile while trying to snatch someone else’s crew. I won’t sell it, go. I can’t. I can’t give it to you.”
“Why- sell me. I’ll get you more tokens. 50 Is enough?”
When the number was higher than expected, the three three, who were shocked at the moment, regained their senses and said loudly as if denying their feelings.
“Not for sale!”
“Then lend me, even if you lend me one day, 50.”
“I can’t hear, I can’t hear. I can’t hear.”
As Sesset closed her ears and went inside her, Diana pouted her lips in regret and looked at Rai.
“Anyway, I told you the princess’s story~”
“Why is that, the princess?”
“I don’t know about that. Come find me if you’re curious.”
Diana said that and got up right away. Even as she goes back to her own group, her people talk to her countless times, and she greets them one by one, maintaining her bright tension.
She didn’t quite understand where the princess’s story was being told, but Philia, who was quietly watching from the sidelines, could tell.
She means that she wants to talk to her face to face for a while.
‘Why does the 6th princess want to see that man?’
She doesn’t know much about the 6th princess, Emilia, but since she has a high status, Philia has heard a lot about her.
An existence that can be said to be a model of nobility. He is full of dignity, but he is not arrogant and treats everyone without discrimination. He greets the academy staff brightly and remembers their names one by one. Everyone praises her character.
Seeing Rai, who was getting down on all fours like a dog and telling Zeroa to pat her back, Philia frowned, as if she was still hurt by Diana’s shoulder bread. If she confronts Lai, the princess might faint in surprise.
There was a difference between Rai and Emilia in their personalities.
She doesn’t even ask to see her face simply to say hello, so she is deeply troubled.
Before entering the tent, Gilbad is seen sitting by a campfire and talking to people. She looks good at servicing the sword she gave her name to, but no matter how you look at it, it doesn’t seem to be left for servicing.
The bonfire and the environment outside the academy may excite the academy students. People listen to Gilbard’s story, perhaps fascinated by the mystery of the bonfire and the magic of the night air.
“Sleep first. Don’t sleep too late.”
“I’ll take care of it. Who do you think I am? It’s Gilbard who defeated the Orc tribe single-handedly.”
As if the content of the saga was an orc, the academy students gathered at Gilbard’s words giggled. Wishing her well as she said, Philia went into the tent and put her to sleep.
More than half of the academy students fell asleep early promising tomorrow, but there were also academy students who could not fall asleep yet and enjoyed the afterglow. They sit in front of a bonfire and chatter without knowing how much time passes.
At the gathering place where everyone is asleep, only the sound of the bonfire remains.
Instructor Ethila, who had checked on Joe when he arrived at the meeting point, stood up in the silence and took a deep breath.
“An enemy raid!!! It’s a surprise attack!!!”
The voice carrying mana spreads everywhere, and the entire assembly area resonates loudly with her voice.
The first thing Zeroa saw when she woke up was the academy staff ringing the bell and shouting that it was a red raid. Among them, the familiar brown stands out the most.
The bell is sluggish while ringing, and it seems like it’s annoying to shout that it’s a red raid. Brown, full of expression that he doesn’t want to do it, is funny. When Zeroa is smiling, someone taps him on the shoulder.
“What are you doing, put on the armor.”
Obviously, it took only a moment for Brown to lose her gaze, but Rai already dressed up in her armor and threw the armor to Zeroa.
Sesset and Arya come out of the tent with their armor. Arya does, but Sesset also walks adeptly, and when she puts on her armor, Zeroa struggles to put on her armor.
“Situation report, surprise alert. Only confirmed surprise alert from academy staff.”
Rai quickly helps Zeroa and reports her situation to Sessett, now out of the tent.
Ethila’s shouts are heard as Sesset quickly looks around her to assess her situation.
“Defense on the central flag of the assembly area!”
As soon as the sound is heard, the academy students run to the center like a storm. After throwing away all their burdens and gathering in order, shields were issued and they moved to line up with each other.
However, the academy students who are not in the same class and have not matched their ranks can’t properly position themselves, so they get out of line. Every time that happens, Etila’s shouts are heard, and the academy students who have been pointed out are very nervous and try to line up.
There was no spirit, but a square was formed, and the academy students raised their shields in all directions. When the cluttered situation is sorted out and the square is completed, all that remains is silence and darkness.
The academy students fixed their eyes on the outside of the rendezvous point and looked, but with eyes not wearing mana, they could only see the distance where the torches could reach. As it is quiet enough to hear someone swallowing, the number of academy students notice each other increases.
Even if you can’t see because you can’t use mana, you should have a presence, but you can’t feel anything.
But Ethila, who stands tall with her flag in the center, remains still, staring straight into the darkness.
Time continues to pass, thinking that it is just training, and students begin to relax. While fixing the uncomfortable posture, the shield shakes in the middle of the square.
“Yes.”
Ray and Etila, who had not moved at the low voice, turned their heads. Their gaze was directed at Violet, who had just spoken. She says a word calmly, then just looks at her front as if she has lost her words, and she doesn’t respond.
Some are actually beyond the dark for training. However, her skills are good and she just waits from a distance, so it’s not a sign to notice, but she recognized it right away.
Rai turned her head while smiling as if she was having fun, then turned her gaze to the front as she looked at the other students at the academy.
“Some kids are too nervous, some kids are relaxed.”
“Please know that there are weak girls who can’t hold their shields properly.”
At Rai’s words, Sesset pushed her own shield the size of her body, she said. Her lie, with her body turned towards her, supports her back with her torso, making her three sets easier.
“Think about it now that your body has become comfortable. Bangjin is an art created by unified spirits. How can we unite them?”
“That’s what the commander, Instructor Etila, has to do. What would a mere soldier do?”
“Sometimes the flow has to come out even among the soldiers.”
“I’m a pure mage, so I don’t know much about momentum. I’m a bit older than that. Could you lift a shield?”
The conversation between the two was so quiet that most of the academy students could hear it. As people watched the two chattering in front of the enemy, Philia struck her shield with her sword.
– KANG, KANG, KANG
Let’s hit the shield in a familiar rhythm, and among the academy students who were listening, the number of shield strikers increased. Every soldier in the Empire knows this rhythm.
And it’s also the sound Rai hates to hear the most. This song, also known as Jingunga, is actually a simple rhythm that is only about beating a shield with a weapon to be called a song.
It is a kind of ceremony that encourages the imperial army to advance and fight. Anyone who has experienced the sight of the soldiers of the ignorant Empire approaching slowly, beating their shields, trembles.
“Uh uh uh-“
When Philia makes a low-pitched sound that seems to have been taken out of her stomach, the voices overlap as if in chorus as the academy students follow along. The sound of shields and voices combine to become a huge military band, and the students stare at the invisible darkness.
Enemy in the dark does not intend to appear for a long time, but the march with burning will does not stop. Seeing the academy student showing confidence and spirit as if the defender is attacking, Ethila takes a deep breath.
“Stop!!! We will end training. The enemy retreated due to the prompt response of our forces. Raise your shield! I didn’t order you to lower it!”
The academy student who lowered his shield at the word that training was over flinched at Etila’s shout and raised the shield again.
“Enemy failed in the surprise attack, but the assembly point was exposed. We will clear it up within 10 minutes and move the assembly point.”
At Etila’s words, the academy students frowned. They expected that they would do something, but it was a night march without sleep. The academy students sighed inwardly, thinking that tonight would be long.
“Philia serios first before disbanding.”
“Yes!”
“No matter how unreliable the commander is, it is better for the soldiers not to act recklessly.”
“Sorry!”
Philia maintains her composure and apologizes right away without looking back. Satisfied with her answer, Ethila smiles and speaks again.
“However, it was good that the imperial army showed great spirit even when it was ambushed. It helped to raise the morale of the army.”
“Thank you. It was because of the advice from Instructor Rai.”
“Yes, you followed the principal’s words to learn by watching a lot. Well done.”
“Thank you.”
Despite being praised, Philia still responded without letting go of her frontal vigilance. The academy students around her peek at the praised Philia with a sidelong glance at her. There was a sense of praise for her well done, but there was also a look of jealousy among them.
And Gilbard, standing right next to her, was also one of those who looked at her jealously.
“Down your shield and disperse. I’ll give you 10 minutes from now. Organize and assemble.”
I had to organize the tent, but the time Attila gave me was too short. After returning their shields, the academy students run frantically toward their tents.
But Reine Joe is relaxed.
“At times like this, it’s better to have less luggage.”
“Minimal life is the leisure of life.”
Others move hurriedly because time is running out, and in the meantime, Ethila looks at them with a puzzled expression as they talk as if they are out for a walk.
