chapter 37
37 – Dungeon Speedrun
Dungeon Speedrun
The entrance to the dungeon is reminiscent of a giant door.
The rectangular entrance, large and simple enough for five men to enter at once, is completely black, as if absorbing light. There are no structures around, only a black door.
“Can I put this in?”
Athlan frowns at the strange shape that refuses to be natural, but Rai goes in first, arguing why he is so afraid of being big.
The back is obviously empty, but when Rai disappears after passing through the entrance, Athran, who was looking at it reluctantly, goes inside.
Inside the dungeon, like a labyrinth, narrow and long passageways were entangled like spider webs. The artificial floor and walls are not strong, but soft light is coming out, so it is not darker than expected.
Athran, who first came in, was looking around here and there, touching the wall, while Rai was only looking at the map.
“Um… Have you ever been to a dungeon?”
At Cindy’s anxious question, the three of her look at her.
“I’ve been up to the 15th floor. Even though I went there as a porter.”
“I don’t have one, can I?”
“Yes. No, no? It seems that there is none.”
Zeroa has experience and Aslan is new. When Rai says something incomprehensible, Cindy looks at Zeroa with a strange expression. I don’t know if it’s because of the sense of camaraderie that he has experience as a porter, or because he’s the only sane person he can rely on, but Cindy looks at him whenever this party does something bizarre.
But even Zeroa couldn’t understand Rai.
When he shrugs and gives up a silent look that says it’s easier to give up, Cindy looks at Rai, who is still looking at the map and pointing her way, with a look that looks like she’s about to cry.
I don’t know why I’m looking at the map when I just entered the dungeon and all I have to do is go in a straight line without a fork in the road.
Does this man even know about dungeons? It’s certainly strong, but adventure takes up a lot of experience. Depending on whether you have experience or not, you can save his life and the quality of your search will change.
According to him, he goes to the 40th floor, but the schedule is 3 days. He told me not to carry heavy food for nothing, so he only brought 3 days worth.
Generally, it takes 1 day per 10 floors for skilled adventurers. This also means the time for veterans who have been to the 7th and 80th floors to return to the floor they are active in. Those who enter the first floor do not know how long it will take.
Even veterans express their disapproval when asked to go down to the 40th floor in three days. It wasn’t because the skills gap between the academy people and the adventurers was so great.
Dungeons consume a lot of stamina because you have to be vigilant in all directions except for the safe zone, and you must always maintain your condition. It might be possible to go down in three days if you just run, but what about the monsters who are targeting weary adventurers?
Even though she brought the hearthstone, which was said to be expensive, Cindy couldn’t help but feel anxious.
A party of adventurers coming in one after another sees Rai hanging around in front of them and looks at them strangely. While Cindy and Zeroa apologize and clear the way, Rai folds the map and kicks the floor.
It looks like stone, but the structure of the dungeon is extremely hard. Dust blows and leaves traces of his cold, but the floor is fine.
“There are stairs going down to the second floor in that direction.”
“……”
You mean you’ve been checking the direction while looking at the map? Cindy looks at him in disbelief when he talks about things that don’t matter because it’s a maze anyway.
“Haa-“
Lai, not paying attention to his gaze, walks towards Chan, putting his hand to his mouth and blowing his breath.
It’s a narrow passage, so it’s immediately blocked by a wall, but he swings his fist at the wall casually.
– Kwaaang!
A hole is created for one person to pass through, and the wall is pierced.
As I said before, the walls of a dungeon are not just stones. Zeroa and Cindy, who know well about the dungeon, stare at it with their mouths open, and Aslan, who knows nothing about it, follows him into the hole in the wall.
“Something is not the type to use one’s body. Whoever sees it beats it with force.”
“Sufficiently developed technology is indistinguishable from superpower.”
“… Isn’t that magic?”
“Is that so? Anyway, it’s technology, technology.”
The two went over the wall while talking casually, but Zeroa and Cindy who remained behind were still frozen.
There are stories of adventurers who were cornered by monsters breaking through walls and surviving, but that’s all that three or four of them clung to and made a hole barely enough for one person to squeeze through.
The above is an unfortunate story of only saving one person when a party of adventurers was wiped out.
That’s why the dungeon’s structure was harder than iron, and going through it was ridiculous. But then I hear the sound of something exploding through the wall again.
With no need to confirm, it was the sound of Rai breaking the wall again. Cindy looks at Zeroa with her dazed expression, but this time he looks dumbfounded as well and meets her eyes with her with a dazed expression.
“Hey! The walls are being restored. Come quickly!”
At Rai’s words, the two hurriedly ran towards the closing hole.
Thanks to Rai’s passing through the wall, the party moved in a straight line towards the stairs to the next floor. Originally, they had to go round and round, so when they covered the road that would have taken an hour on foot in less than five minutes, Cindy looked at Zeroa, wondering if advanced adventurers would break through in this way.
Understanding her gaze right away, Zeroa shakes her head. I have never heard of such an ignorant and exciting way of proceeding.
Even when I broke through in a straight line, I didn’t even encounter monsters. The first floor is not even a threat because it is a weak monster, but all the monsters in the dungeon are aggressive, so it is quite annoying.
The method looks ignorant, but the party goes down the floor in an instant with Rai’s quick and comfortable method.
“I’m tired today, so I won’t fight anymore.”
When the first monster appeared after going down to the 4th floor, Asran said that he was worried about the remaining sediment from the sewer and left everything to Rai.
“It’s too bad the young guy has premature ejaculation.”
“It’s not premature ejaculation!”
“Nene- Premature ejaculation always denies it. It’s okay, you can stop fighting today. Every drop of premature ejaculation is a waste.”
Rai drills another hole in the wall while ignoring the monster. Now he walks away and kicks her with his foot, as if he doesn’t even bother swinging her fists.
As soon as she saw it, she showed the power to run away, but an unintelligent monster rushed at Rai who showed her back and was knocked over. As Cindy, who doesn’t understand what happened, watches her blankly, Zeroa tells her with a bitter smile.
“Instructor Rai knocked it down.”
“An attack…?”
“Yes, I’m afraid I can only see scenes where monsters are hit, but I think it’s true that the instructor defeated them.”
I can’t believe it, but I couldn’t help but believe it when I saw the monster collapsed for no reason.
After checking the corpse of the monster that died instantly without even convulsing, Cindy follows Zeroa, who protects her, and goes over to the next wall.
“That… Instructor Rai is a monk… No, is he a fighter?”
Rye is not holding a weapon. In addition, he hit a monster that was far enough out of his hands and feet. I honestly don’t know if he was hitting or if he was carrying a weapon, but I did know that he wasn’t carrying a weapon.
When Zeroa listens to her words and seriously thinks about it, Cindy, who thought he seemed close to Rai, tilts her head.
“Probably… Inspection job… Inspection, right?”
“Isn’t it?”
“This is the only two times I’ve seen him fight. But seeing as he gives advice to other academy students from time to time, it seems that he handles all kinds of weapons well. It was the first time I knew he was good at fighting.”
The academy instructors don’t get involved in the martial arts of the academy students, but they give advice on bad habits. Although he does not give lectures related to him, Rai also gave some advice to the academy students who were training while passing by.
Zeroa did not know the weapons used by the academy students, but the academy students who received Lai’s advice nodded and had in-depth conversations, and whenever they asked a question, Lai answered without hesitation.
Cindy, embarrassed, listens to Zeroa’s words and looks at Rai, who is having a small talk with Aslan.
“Are all the academy instructors that strong?”
“Well, I don’t know everyone either. But he’s definitely strong.”
She remembers her confidence in cutting down the assassins at once, says Zeroa.
Zeroa still didn’t understand the technique. She didn’t even use mana, she simply swung in the air, but she performed miracles that were more magical than magic.
An attack range that far exceeds the range of a sword, and a sharpness as if cutting through space itself.
Everything that stood in front of him collapsed.
Zeroa, who literally witnessed her deity, looks at Rai’s back with yearning eyes.
“You’re a wonderful person.”
“Yes, I am in a position I could never have dreamed of.”
Cindy turned her head to look at Zeroa at the sound of her voice that felt her nostalgia.
The pure boy’s eyes filled with envy feel more like an adventurer than anyone else. She seemed passive and clumsy, so I thought she didn’t fit in with an adventurer at all, but that was the moment I realized why he did this.
Rai shouts as he approaches Cindy, who is staring blankly at his face.
“He’s flirting with girls again, Cindy, come here!”
“Oh, no! What, what are you sprinkling?!”
“Cindy beware. Innocent faces are all acting. I’m sure you’ve already seduced three or four people at the academy with that.”
When Cindy, who heard Rai’s words, looked at him with a suspicious look, Zeroa shouted in bewilderment.
“Sir, it’s not Cindy. I never had that in mind.”
“Let’s go, let’s go. Didn’t Jurshiki just act like a motherly love again? He just looked like an innocent boy. That’s all repertoire, repertoire. After a while, he’ll be tempted with something delicious.”
When Rai wrapped his arms around her shoulder and left as if he were running away, he chased after him saying it wasn’t Zero, but Cindy’s eyes didn’t change when she looked at her in disbelief.
Rai’s noisy party went all the way down to the 30th floor.
Cindy didn’t have the energy to be surprised any more when she came down here in one day with Rai’s way of breaking through the wall and breaking through in a straight line.
Thinking that this might be the fastest breakthrough in the history of the guild, Cindy remembers what Kraosa told her to learn and come.
‘I’m sorry, Mr. Craosa. I have nothing to learn…’
I can’t learn exactly. Anyone can think of breaking through the wall, but few people can put it into practice. Even if you collect only A grades right away, if you tell them to break the wall to the 30th floor in turns, they will consider you crazy.
Besides, no matter if there are monsters or traps, Rai can destroy them all with one shot, so let alone experience, all I can think of is that I am dumbfounded.
Cindy came comfortably, but seeing the party where not even a single point of experience was accumulated as much as she came comfortably, Cindy could only feel comforted by the fact that she was fortunate to receive a large wage.
Athlan, who has never received the same amount of experience, complains that dungeons are not as fun as he thought.
‘It’s no fun because I just walked!!’
Shouting out loud in her heart, Cindy calms down and organizes the things in her backpack.
In a dungeon, the most common safe zone is the stairs where the floors change. After coming down to the 30th floor and setting up camp, the party decided to take a nap, and Lai lay down and eat cookies as soon as he laid out his sleeping bag.
Asran was wary of the surroundings and was managing the bonfire with the firewood he brought after destroying the tree-shaped monsters, and Zeroa made food with the ingredients he brought.
Cindy recognizes that they are also academy students as they watch everyone skillfully prepare for camping except for Rye.
The aisle widens as you go down the floor, so by the 30th floor, the aisle is as large as the living room of a wide mansion. And the light gradually decreases, and without fire, it becomes difficult to distinguish the front.
When Cindy looks beyond the darkness and thinks about her future schedule, she calls people together saying that the cooking is finished, as far as I know.
I did everything in the dungeon today, but when camping started, Lai, who didn’t move at all in his sleeping bag, gathered near the campfire, and Zeroa handed out bowls of warm soup to the people.
Thanks to the ridiculous schedule of about three days, all the ingredients were fresh, and the soup made by Zeroa and the meat mixed with spices smelled good.
Cindy, still a novice porter, follows only a party of adventurers with no money and no experience, and the quest ends in one day. It is the first time to experience eating.
Trying what might be called her finally experience, she tastes her yellowish soup and looks at Zeroa sitting next to her with her surprised eyes.
“It’s delicious. It may be rude to say this, but it’s familiar somewhere… It’s delicious.”
“Isn’t it delicious? It’s my mother’s special soup. When I go home after work, I always smell my mother’s soup from outside the door.”
Zero knows if she recalls her nostalgic memories and rummages through her soup with a smile.
“Look at that. That’s what I mean? You’re tempting me with something to eat. You’re a player. After you’ve finished your break, warn the kids to be careful.”
“Ah! No!”
Although Zeroa is in denial, Aslan, who heard her Rai’s words, looks at him with her suspicious eyes. Cindy laughs at Zeroa who denies her hurried gestures and Rai who teases her again.
During a hearty meal, Zeroa remembers what Rai said was her skill while breaking down her wall, and asks her.
“Is it difficult to break through walls?”
“Is it difficult? It’s just a wall, right?”
When Aslan, who doesn’t know anything about dungeons, answers, Zeroa shakes her head and explains how hard the dungeon’s structures are.
After hearing her explanation, Aslan tapped her finger on the floor in wonder.
“It’s amazing, it’s like being in another world.”
“Please study. Is there anything in your head?”
While beating Asran, Rai secretly eats his meat.
“This is the 5th world that we think of as the world. It is the material world. You know that, right?”
“Of course I know. When I was a kid, if I went to the temple, the bearded grandfather would explain.”
Each person believes in a different god, but there are many overlapping events such as events held depending on the season. One of them is to explain the birth of the world and myths to children at the temple, and when they reach a certain age, regardless of whether they are nobles or commoners, they all gather to listen to the words of a high-ranking priest.
Zeroa saw such a priest and smiled bitterly at Aslan, who described him as her grandfather.
“Yes, there are five worlds. From the material world we live in, in turn, the combined world, the spiritual world, the void world, and the divine world where there are gods.”
“I know that much.”
“You should know. If you don’t know, you have to doubt your intelligence. Except for the material world, they say that all worlds are close to infinite. The dungeon is located in the junction between the material world and the spiritual world.”
“So you jumped the dimension?”
Athran, who knows about magic, knows that it is impossible to jump over a dimension. As he knows, it is impossible by human power and sometimes occurs naturally.
This is a case where a supreme being opens a dimension or is created for an unknown reason, such as in a dungeon in Legandia.
“Dungeons, to be precise, don’t exist. The monsters that appear here are closer to creation than birth.”
“Does it have infinite energy?”
No matter how bad it is, when Athran, an academy academy student, reasoned in depth, Cindy, an ordinary adventurer, couldn’t understand what they were saying.
Ray nods his head at Aslan’s concern about the infinite energy that can be said to be the dream of mankind.
“That’s right. The combination system is located at the line between the spirit world and the material world, so you can use the infinite energy of the spirit world. Then, copy and create thoughts from the material world. So sometimes monsters that are indistinguishable from humans come out. Do it. I use all my skills and mana.”
“Oh ho- that sounds like fun.”
“Isn’t it? You can hit it without hesitation.”
It’s a terrible story, but Asran burns his fighting spirit. At the incomprehensible mental structure, Cindy looks around and sees Zeroa, who is smiling wryly, wondering if everyone in the academy is like this.
After the long explanation of the dungeon, except for Rai, when she was cleaning her tableware, Zeroah asked the question again.
“Can I learn the art of breaking down walls?”
Cindy’s ears perked up at Zeroa’s words.
If it wasn’t difficult to learn, no, even if you couldn’t use it right now, if you just learned it, adventurers’ exploration abilities would increase many times over. For adventurers who have to spend days to go to a floor they’ve visited once, they’ll learn Lai’s skills at all costs.
“I can learn it. It’s a bit tricky because it’s a spell that destroys the opponent’s spell, so I guess I’ll just have to practice a bit.”
Rai, who had been talking nonchalantly, saw the three of them staring at each other expectantly, her eyes narrowing and she smiled.
“But I don’t intend to teach you.”
“That’s shameful.”
“I don’t know if it’s you two, but not Cindy.”
Cindy, who was pointed out, was taken aback, then collected herself again and carefully asked.
“Because I’m not an academy student?”
It’s a matter of course. Cindy never thought of learning someone else’s skill for free.
“No, because you are an adventurer.”
“… Is it… Because you’re an adventurer?”
Thanks to what she has shown so far, she thinks she is a great person, but when she sees Rai who discriminates against people based on their job or social status, Cindy’s eyes grow weakly angry.
“But… There are no people other than adventurers to use, right?”
As Zeroa laughed awkwardly and intervened in the awkward atmosphere, Rai, who was lying down, tilted her head and looked at him.
“Right, the guys who enter the dungeon the most are adventurers. So what?”
“I thought it might help…”
“You’re right. It’ll be a huge help. It’ll speed up the exploration of dungeons and collect more materials. It’ll make a lot of money, too. So?”
“……”
At Rai’s questioning question, Zeroa couldn’t say any more and shut her mouth.
Ray looked at Asran and Cindy and said.
“You guys are misunderstanding something. The reason I didn’t tell Cindy wasn’t because I didn’t like my skills or because I wanted a proper reward. You can spray all these crappy spells that can only be used to break through walls.”
The three of them look at Rai, who said that he is a pathetic man with magic that can drastically change dungeon exploration.
“The reason I don’t tell Cindy, the adventurer, is because you guys aren’t progressing.”
“……What do you mean?”
“You guys have no progress. It’s the same whether it was 10 years ago or 100 years ago. I just ran and beat myself up and got a good experience. Ehehehe – just laughing like an idiot. If you die then you die, and if you survive, you gain experience.” “What is this? Are you kidding me?”
Rai said it mockingly, but neither Cindy nor the adventurer Zeroa could understand what he was angry about.
“Isn’t it obvious? Experience is an adventurer’s asset.”
“That’s right! It’s an asset. You selfish bastards. When you play rating games and collect money like an asset, young bastards without a penny of knowledge die like crazy.”
“The guild is also training new members.”
“How much can I learn from the biased experience of one or two instructors? Even that training period is only a week?”
Cindy, who was refuting, shut his mouth. The training time for new adventurers in the guild is 3 days. She learned only the basic rules of conduct and etiquette she needed to master for three days, but she didn’t help much in the actual adventure.
Zeroa, who has experienced both academy and adventurers, now realizes what Rai is talking about.
“You don’t have records. Records. There is no most important factor that made creatures with knowledge develop. They only hide their know-how as an asset, and tell them to face it peacefully when their lives are at stake. What are we going to do? ?”
“……”
“Does the commander tell the soldiers on the battlefield, ‘I have identified all the enemy troops. The enemy is f*cking strong, but this is an asset I risked my life to know, so I won’t tell you’? I would have given it away.”
Leaving her speechless Cindy, Rai says as she burrows into her sleeping bag.
“Of course, I know that our positions are different. Knowledge and experience are important to the adventurers who are private entrepreneurs. Everyone is a competitor and everyone is a rival. But at least you don’t have to let the kids survive. Until when? I’m going to hide it. Does the guy on the 100th floor have anything to do on the 30th floor? Does the guy who catches the ogre care about the goblins? It’s okay to share that stupid knowledge, but you adventurers will never tell you.”
She is freer than any other profession, but Cindy, who had only taken it for granted, hardened as if she was shocked when Rai slandered the adventurer society, which was closed in terms of experience and knowledge.
“Knowledge discovered by many people. And recorded and passed on. That’s what education is. Did you understand? Blessed academy students who are easily learning the knowledge that our ancestors worked hard for.”
Athran and Zeroa, who were confused for nothing, looked away.
Rai, who had overthrown the friendly atmosphere just a moment ago, covered himself with a sleeping bag and went to sleep, while the other three fell into deep thought while watching the bonfire.
