2: Miracle

--- [Zaki POV]

My vision was eclipsed by this blurred figure before me.

There was no explanation for what I was witnessing. Could it be god?
But the gods abandoned us thousands of years ago!

The Sunviper was closing in too fast to think.

I'm sorry, father.

BANG!

Suddenly, the air erupted with a violent explosion, and when I opened my eyes, the once great beast was defeated in an instant.

There was no longer any room to deny it, I was given a miracle! I can't let this go to waste, no matter what!

--- [Nathan POV]

<+4 Faith>

Nice, I'll have to worry about what Faith points do later.

Zaki seems to be cutting up the corpse of the monster, I presume they must have something like a core that she can use to get stronger.

What is the fastest way for her to get stronger?

<Answer: The fastest way for Zaki Tianlei to progress is by using the Astral Reformation Technique located in the Divine Library of Fengshen City.>

Perfect! I decide to see if I can use [Manifestation] to create a copy of it.

Damn it's expensive, another two Plausibility down the drain, it better be worth it.

I suppose if I think about it in terms of causality, it's not very realistic that this would just appear here.
I get the feeling that if I were to give this to anyone but my apostle I would be punished like hell.

The first thing I see on the cover, though, seems like the kind of warning label that you'd find on radioactive waste.
There doesn't even seem to be a clear author, how did this make it into a reputable library?

"WARNING! All known practitioners of this technique have died in the process of performing it.  Attempt this technique at your own risk."

I don't recall asking for something that would kill her.
At the very least can I be sure it won't?

<Calculation complete, activating [Simulation]...>

I feel like I'm going to be sick, stop doing this stuff without warning me, stupid system!
Oh god- wait, do I count as a god? I can't even swear to god anymore if that's the case, since I'd just be swearing to myself...

Finally when the disorientation passes, I see Zaki sitting on the ground groaning in pain, clearly attempting to follow what was in the book.

I wait anxiously, but instead of dropping dead at the end, she collapses and seems to just be unconscious.

<End of simulation>

The return to reality wasn't as bad as it was going into it, but at least I knew it would work.

Just in time, too. Zaki just finished extracting the core of the Sunviper.

"Use this." I offer and toss the book into her hands.

"A-Are you serious? The book itself is seriously telling me I'll die!" She replies doubtfully.

"Do you want to survive, or do you want revenge?" I once again dangle the lure of revenge to motivate her.

"I'm not sure anymore. After having time to contemplate, revenge has led cultivators onto the demonic path before..." She hesitates.

After a pause to think, I came up with a truly god-like philosophy if I do say so myself.
"Revenge and justice are sometimes synonymous. On the contrary, if revenge leads to justice, then is refusing to seek revenge not the path of unrighteousness?"

"You truly do have the insight of a god... Alright, I'll do it!" She agrees.

She starts reading the book and reluctantly follows the instructions to the letter.
Not that I understand much of it, I was never really into cultivation genre, but here I am.

I just observe as she places the core in her mouth as the manual describes, and then meditates there.
After almost an hour it starts looking painful, but it's to be expected.

<Warning: [Manifestation] requires an investment of Plausibility every hour to maintain.>

Oop. I guess I should avoid wasting the five points I have left.

Back in the Palace of Causality, I decide to read the rest of the tutorial my predecessor left me.
Let's see, what to do after finding an apostle... Here it is!

===

Gaining Plausibility:

So, rookie, if you've not skipped the above step, then I'm certain you must have used some Plausibility, most suitable apostles are in the middle of near death experiences, after all...

How to gain more, you ask? The answer is quite simple.

Every person you see has a value called 'Causality Points', and if they're alive then they have at least 1, as it drops to 0 the instant they are supposed to die. (If they don't die, then they'll get fatally unlucky until they do...)

When you kill someone before their destined time, you pocket their Causality as Plausibility.
Keep in mind that you won't always get that amount, and Laplace seems keen on arbitrarily capping the maximum you can get at once.

The points of that person's victims are included in their score, and are returned to the victims if they're still alive. Which means, you will only be given their base Plausibility, and any points from people that are already dead.

IMPORTANT Side Note:

This is for any of you foolish newbies that constantly engage in 'doing the right thing'.
First of all, how do you know what you're doing is the right thing?
Laplace has a habit of not filling you in unless you ask.
Is that guy you want to smite a ruthless murderer? Or is he about to take revenge on a serial killer that cannibalized his son?

Remember, omniscience and ignorance are not mutually exclusive.

Lastly, don't think you can go around just killing anyone you recognize as a villain.

Remember that bit above about points being returned to victims? I almost forgot to mention that those points come out of your balance.

So don't think you can just go around killing whoever you want, or you're going to be completely broke in an instant.
And trust me, you do NOT want to piss Laplace off.

Never forget: You are just an editor. If you can indirectly make the world a better place, great!

But if you're just going to go around destroying the plan without suggesting an alternative, Laplace will throw you in the trash can without a second thought.

P.S

Don't forget to read the adjacent note that contains my most useful tips and tricks.

Anyway, there's also a panel with people about to die that you can farm for points, so go get out there and impress me!

I feel bad for anyone that didn't read this.

These extra tips not only look awesome but look like they'll be super handy in the future.

Well, I guess it's time to farm some Plausibility.
