Chapter 3: Chapter 3 Midnight Cat Cries_1
The black cat stuck out its tongue to lick its mouth, its round purple eyes adorably gazed at Qin Sisi while it leisurely meowed.
Qin Sisi understood this time. It was surely saying: I want more.
Qin Sisi nodded, "Okay, it seems like you're starving." With that, she picked up the enamel basin and returned to the kitchen to fill it halfway, placing it in front of the black cat, which buried its head and began to eat again.
Initially, Qin Sisi had no appetite, but seeing the black cat with such relish, she couldn't help but feel hungry. She sat down to start eating, but before she finished, she heard more meowing. Looking over, she saw the enamel basin was empty once more, and the black cat was looking at her eagerly, just like before.
"Seriously? You're still not full?" Qin Sisi found it unbelievable, the tiny body of this cat hiding such a large appetite.
The black cat meowed again, seemingly answering her.
Qin Sisi stood helplessly, walked to the kitchen to get him a couple more spoons of food. After this meal, the black cat didn't meow. Cleaned its mouth, and with a light jump, it was on the bed, curling up and half-closing its eyes.
Qin Sisi's bed was situated in the living room. Given she only had one room, the living room was also the bedroom and the most comfortable place in the house was this bed. Undeniably, the cat knew how to pick its spots.
Qin Sisi watched the cat, hand propped on her jaw, "Eat and sleep immediately, aren't you afraid of gaining weight?"
As if the black cat hadn't heard, it half-closed its eyes, sleepy, as if everything had nothing to do with it.
Seeing its indifferent attitude, Qin Sisi sighed and said self-deprecatingly: "Being a small animal is nice. Eat and sleep, no worries or sadness."
The ears of the black cat twitched imperceptibly.
Qin Sisi took the used utensils to the kitchen to clean. When she came back, it seemed that the black cat had already slept.
She looked at it for a while, grabbed a cardboard box, lined it with some advertising paper, and placed a soft pillow towel inside.
After arranging it, Qin Sisi walked to the bed side, picked up the black cat and put it in the paper box, saying, "This is your bed, you sleep here from now on." The black cat opened its eyes in confusion, looking at Qin Sisi curiously.
Qin Sisi gently patted its head and said, "Okay, I have to sleep now. I have work tomorrow. Good night." Then she turned around and got on the bed.
No matter how heartbreaking or difficult, the next day after the sun coming up, you still have to pull yourself together for work. Life has to go on.
Sitting on the bed, feeling taken over by a sudden thought, Qin Sisi remembered a story she read in a book, about how dead people turn into stars, she looked out of the window, however, saw nothing but total darkness. Today was a rainy day with no stars.
Qin Sisi felt a little disappointed, she sighed deeply and lied down to sleep. Suddenly, a black shadow flashed, when Qin Sisi turned her head to look, the black cat had already leapt onto the bed and found a spot to lay down.
Qin Sisi was taken aback, thinking the black cat might be having difficulty adjusting, she patiently picked it up, got off the bed, and placed it back in the paper box.
Yet, she barely got back on the bed, the black cat leaped onto it right away.
Qin Sisi picked it up and removed it one more time, only for it to return the next moment...
After several back-and-forths, Qin Sisi finally conceded. She stared at the black cat in surrender and said, "Alright, tonight you can sleep on the bed. But from tomorrow on, you'll have to go to your paper box."
The black cat buried its head in its body, let out a small "meow" where Qin Sisi couldn't see, a smile flickered in its purple eyes.
Qin Sisi lay down, her line of sight could just spot the tiny, soft body of the black cat. She said pensively: "I should give you a name. You're all black, so I'll call you Xiao Hei."
Xiao Hei meowed, its voice sounding quite low, Qin Sisi thought it was sleepy and in a bad mood. She didn't notice the deep displeasure in the cat's tone and continued, "That's settled then, good night, Xiao Hei."
With that, Qin Sisi turned off the light, and the room was plunged into tranquil darkness.
She closed her eyes. These past few days she was indeed very tired, after tossing and turning for a little while, she gradually fell asleep. But her sleep was far from peaceful. The faces of her parents flashed continuously in her dreams, grieving, kind, reproachful, tender...
Xiao Hei lifted its head in the darkness. Its purple eyes sparkled with an eerie glow in the dark. Light was never an issue for it. To the cat, darkness was as clear as day. It gazed at the dozing Qin Sisi for a while, then gradually lowered its head again and closed its eyes.
After midnight passed, Qin Sisi and Xiao Hei seemed to have both fallen asleep, their shallow breaths slow and steady.
The street light outside the window has long extinguished, leaving only vast darkness around. In the silent night, a chilling Yin energy inexplicably emerged and slowly drifted towards the bed, inching silently closer.
Qin Sisi's eyebrows furrowed, her ordinarily warm body felt a chill.
Suddenly, Xiao Hei leapt up from the bed. Its coiled body straightened instantly, it held up its head and hissed ferociously towards the gradually approaching Yin energy, its purple eyes radiating a fear-inspiring sternness.
The air underwent subtle shifts. After a few minutes, the Yin energy gradually dispersed, everything returned to normal.
Xiao Hei held its protective stance for a while, watching as the mysterious Yin energy formed from nothingness before disappearing, it turned to look at Qin Sisi, its gaze gradually softening.
It had felt her body tremble when it had yelled earlier, but she hadn't woken up. She just furrowed her brows, her tiny, pale face as white as paper.
Xiao Hei blinked, a fleeting look of tenderness in its eyes. The darkness would have no effect on a cat's eyes, but even if it weren't a cat, to it, the night was as clear as the day.
Xiao Hei lay down again. There shouldn't be any more disturbances now to bother their sleep! It was time for a good sleep.
Unfortunately, Xiao Hei was wrong. Not too long after, it was awakened again, this time not by anything else, but Qin Sisi herself.
Qin Sisi had her eyes closed; clearly, she hadn't woken up. Yet, she was crying, sobbing, with tears continually sliding down her cheeks, wetting a large part of the pillow towel.
Xiao Hei was a little bit at a loss and also a little bit heartbroken. Over these past years, she must have suffered a lot.
Xiao Hei paced around Qin Sisi a few times and finally stopped next to her pillow. Slowly, it brought down its head and used its soft tongue to lick away her tears one by one.
Under Xiao Hei's strange appeasement, Qin Sisi slowly calmed down, the sobbing stopped, her brows, however, were still tightly furrowed.
Xiao Hei lay next to the pillow, looking at her sideways. Slowly, it too closed its eyes.
