Chapter 21: 21. The cheat that never was, sword practice and the strange machine

POV: Finn the human

" Concentrate your mind Finn, and try to project a structure you feel is best to store your memory. It can be a house, a library or even a disc. Whatever works best for you. This process will offer protection to your mind, better mind processing as well as aid in you easily remembering things. "

Finn breathed out deeply, the gentle breeze of the calming spring putting him in a state of deep concentration. The splash of the waterfall, the movement of the koi fish. Everything was just so calming to him at the moment.

The Shogun was teaching him one of the most basic mind techniques, forming a sort of mind storage that would allow both protection and storage for his memories.

At First, Finn thought the process would be hard but so far it had been going easy. But easy did not mean that the process was not delicate. It only meant that it was not as hard as all his other training.

And the fact the both the young Finn and the Smart Leo had a form of a mind palace made things easier.

Finn used the concept of the vault from the original Finn and the sort of perfect recall from Leo and with the addition of several other concepts, he thought he was doing a pretty great job!

But at the end of it all, it was still a delicate job. A job he put his full concertation into.

' And I can even call it The vault. I already like how that sounds! '

" Focus Finn! "

" Hai sensei! "

. . . . . . . . . . . . . Adventure Time . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Most of the training for Finn to make use of haki had been done within the Nomicon and as the shogun had told him, this fact was helping in the growth of his haki abilities.

This was something Finn was happy about despite his initial disappointment.

He had initially thought he could abuse the power of the Nomicon by spending days inside there as he trained his abilities as well as mastered countless other aspects but that thought was quickly squashed before it could grow any further.

And he could especially recall the Nomicon being especially brutal with that reveal as if it had already predicted his thoughts.

Firstly, as the Shogun had told him, any physical training inside the Nomicon would be useless as it would hold zero changes to his physical body.

At worst, it would pose its own set of problems as he would lack the necessary muscle memory that came while training inside the Nomicon.

It still was possible to train within the Nomicon as it was safer and allowed him to have no physical injuries. And it was also a perfect place to ensure all his abilities were mastered well enough.

Secondly, the pain was still very much existing in the Nomicon as he had quickly come to learn.

Not the type that would cause permanent injury but the type you would prefer never to experience again and the shogun had proven it was a slave driver when it came to training those it thought were worthy.

The main reason also for him not staying within the Nomicon for a long duration of time was because he would be exhausting his mental energy in doing so.

These he had come to learn on the first day as he exited the Nomicon and immediately fell asleep soon after.

That was the reason why the shogun said staying longer was also a form of training his haki. A form of testing his will the longer he could overcome the exhaustion from having his mental energy drained.

Exhaustion and replenishment.

' For a vessel to grow, it must be used constantly until empty and once again allowed to fill up and the process repeated as many times as possible. ' The shogun had explained.

And lastly, what Finn feared the most was the possibility that he would go crazy if he stayed long enough in the Nomicon.

Humans were considered social creatures for a reason.

And that was why spending weeks in the Nomicon was not going to happen.

Finn circulated the little Teingu powers he had in his body and felt a slight warmth run through every part of him.

And he felt some of his still tensed muscles relax and the blood rush through his being quicker.

This was a trick the shogun had taught him on the first day and so far it was working greatly. It also allowed Finn to be more accustomed to the Teingu's powers.

Doing this every day as he had come to learn helped him quickly in healing from his workouts and with the addition of his natural healing capabilities, Finn felt like a cheat! It wasn't by much though.

This was what he had gotten since his meeting with the Teingu and he was happy about it. No matter how pitiful his reserves were at the moment.

" All I need is time! " Finn said silently to himself.

Jake quickly turned to look at him with a funny look but Finn chose to conveniently ignore it.

Yes, he could not throw fireballs or shoot out highly concentrated heat lasers but this was still flame control!

A power many would want to have no matter how weak it was and Finn was lucky enough to have it.

The reason for his low output was also easily explained to him by the shogun. Finn's own body was too weak to channel the full power of the Teingu.

Maybe if he was crazy enough, he could channel the full power but the shogun had quickly told him this was a madman's route as he would likely combust on doing so and burn to ashes instantly.

This had all led back once again to the same problem, Finn was too weak physically but that was something he could only work on over time and had zero control over.

He was just a child.

But what truly made Finn excited was despite all this, there was still something to be happy about.

The ninja suit that he thought had disappeared with the goddess's interference in the suit was present!

As he had also come to know, the ninja suit acted as it had in the show as it boosted his overall abilities as well as acting as a form of armor.

The only bad thing was that he looked too cute while wearing it, like a cute ninja kid and Finn was not happy with that knowledge.

He had also figured that his suit was slightly different, and this new alteration had him smiling for days. It provoked his curiosity and Finn was sure he would make maximum use of this new ability with his great creativity.

And if there was something he had in spades, it was his imagination.

Finn picked himself from the ground after he had properly circulated the Teingu flames through his body and let his muscles relax.

He stretched further to relax his muscles and moved to pick up his sword Scarlet and he could not help but smile at the still pristine sword. Lacking any missing chips or damage on its blade.

The sword that he was quickly growing used to 'swinging' around.

Finn had dedicated most of his time while within and outside the Nomicon to sword practice as the sword would be his main weapon in the future.

It was not easy but Finn was sure it would be worth it.

He could have chosen another weapon as he was sure the Nomicon had a variety of them in store but in the end, he still picked the good old sword.

Every guy's dream weapon.

His progress with the sword had been surprisingly going well, in fact, the Shogun had said Finn was a natural with the sword and he was not shocked with this information.

The future him from the show had already shown to be quite impressive with a sword despite not having a master to teach him.

And the new Finn while under the masterful hands of the shogun was like a mined gem just waiting to be polished.

It was only when Finn could wield a sword like famous swordsmen such as Yoriichi Tsugikuni or even Roronoa Zoro.

Would he be able to cut a giant bolder in half!?

His training was going well enough that he could say he could at least get into a proper sword stance while also not injuring himself at the same time. And that was progress!

Finn could say his most impressive accomplishment was that he had gone through the full cabinet of ninja balls and Finn could only say that that had been one of the happiest days of his life, he was sure he had even shed a tear of happiness and his dream that night had been particularly a happy one!

A ninja ball heaven.

" Hey Jake, what are we doing today? " Finn asked curiously because other than training, he mostly accompanied Jake around when he went somewhere.

And it was still early in the morning as Finn would wake up before the sun rose to start his training.

This was not only one of the safest options to the current him but it also fulfilled his curiosity in seeing this new dangerous world of his from a safe point.

And he was also trying to keep away his boredom from getting too much.

So, most of his journey had been either to the farmer's market to pick up any groceries or a short walk outside.

Jake smiled brightly and for some odd reason, Finn was sure he would like what he was about the hear.

" Dad and Mom's mission machine just posted its first mission and luckily, it's not a very dangerous one."

Finn knew what that meant, he had been waiting for this for a while and it was just happening.

"We're going on a mission Finn!"

" Math! "

A/N

The mission mystery that I will solve using my reasoning and some research using a very familiar object that was once shown in the show.

And for those who wanted Finn to remain within the Nomicon for long periods of hours, sorry not sorry. It's not happening. Not anytime soon at least.
