Chapter 18 - Rules (1)
An Yun asked Xiao Cui to exchange the small gold bead for silver coins, then asked her buy tools. Afterward, he went to take a lunch break.
After sleeping all afternoon, when An Yun got up, it was almost time.
An Yun wandered to the kitchen again, where Chef Zheng, with his usual smile, then guided the chef to prepare five more dishes and one soup to send to Zang Ya. He then returned to the house with the maid who had served the food.
After An Yun finished eating the same meal as Zang Ya, he secretly praised the cooking skills. Then, he slipped away for a while and waited until he saw Xiao Cui delivering medicine, accompanied by two people who were helping her.
These two little maids were servants lower than Xiao Cui. They usually did chores like sweeping the floor and washing clothes in the outer courtyard and never encountered the noble guest from the inner courtyard.
Before coming in, Xiao Cui warned the two little maids to be careful with their words and actions, and they had taken it to heart.
However, as soon as they entered the place, they couldn’t control their eyes upon seeing the gorgeous scenery under the dim light of the setting sun. To them, it was no less than a fairy palace.
Their eyes scanned the room, and they spotted a white robe in the corner. Looking up, they saw a face that seemed otherworldly.
The two little maids were initially stunned. They didn’t expect to see someone so divine in the mansion.
An Yun showed no reaction to their actions, but Xiao Cui noticed something. She turned around, saw that they were standing there, dumbfounded, she yelled in annoyance, “What are you doing there?”
The two maids, realizing they had gone too far, quickly lowered their heads, fearful of disturbing the noble guest. If they hadn’t been carrying something, they might have knelt down.
On the other hand, An Yun, standing nearby, saw this and said bluntly, “Don’t be afraid, I don’t eat people.”
Xiao Cui breathed a sigh of relief but still said to An Yun, “Fulang is kind-hearted, but I’m afraid they are breaking the rules.”
An Yun had a good temper. He didn’t mind the maids’ rudeness, but if they behaved like this with other masters in the future, even if the master wasn’t angry, the people around would likely tease them.
An Yun smiled. “It’s okay; it’s fine here.”
Hearing this, the two little maids raised their heads and glanced at An Yun. Meeting his pure eyes and seeing his smiling face, they quickly lowered their heads again, their faces quietly turning red.
“Fulang,” Xiao Cui said, glaring at the two little maids who didn’t know their place. She put down the food box with the medicine bowl, turned to the two maids following behind, and ordered, “Thank you for your hard work today. Put your things here, and you may go back.”
The little maids quickly put down their items and hurriedly prepared to leave.
“Just a moment.”
An Yun called to the two people who were about to leave in a hurry. Under their doubtful eyes, he wrapped two cakes in oil paper and gave it to them.
The twelve-year-old little maids, upon receiving An Yun’s cake, showed excitement. They thanked An Yun repeatedly and left quickly.
It wasn’t until they had left the door that their excitement subsided a bit, but there was still excitement in their expressions.
“This fulang is so good-looking!”
“Yeah, I’ve never seen such a good-looking person.”
“I wonder if we can see fulang again next time.”
“What are you thinking? We could come this time only because of Sister Xiao Cui. I’m afraid we won’t have this chance next time. Let’s go; we still have work to do!”
The two little maids murmured and were about to hurry back. As a result, they almost bumped into someone at the corner.
Both girls kept their bodies steady and protected the things in their hands. The two little maids looked at the exquisite embroidered shoes then slowly gazing up, seeing a delicate face.
The face was not very ferocious, but it shocked the two little maids, and their voices became much softer, “Qing, Miss Qing Yue?”
Qing Yue had no expression on her face, frowning and looking at them. Her eyes fell on the cakes they were protecting, and then she looked in the direction they had come from. “You just came out of Qinxiang Garden?”
The two maids, still a little scared from almost bumping into someone, faced her inquiry nervously. Finally, they stood up bolder and said, “Yes.”
Qing Yue didn’t know what she thought of and said to them, “Okay, go! Don’t be so reckless when walking in the mansion in the future. Walk slowly.”
“Yes!”
After Qing Yue left with her two attendants, the two little maids, heads lowered, dared to look up at her back before carefully running away.
“I’m so lucky today. I got two cakes and wasn’t punished.”
“Yes! But we have to be more careful next time.”
.
After the two little maids left, An Yun first admired the tool he wanted for a while. Then, at Xiao Cui’s urging, he drank the medicine in one breath.
Xiao Cui waited next to him. After he finished taking the medicine and drank a glass of cold water, she took out three candied fruits from a nearby porcelain bottle and placed them in front of An Yun.
Seeing An Yun’s frown relax slightly after eating the candied fruit, Xiao Cui smiled and said to him, “Fulang, these are the candied fruits that Chef Zheng asked me to send over for you to eat and enjoy. If they run out, tell me and he will send more.”
An Yun was a little surprised when he heard this. Before he could ask more questions, the sound of a bell gently shaking came from outside the door.
The bell rang, and someone came in.
An Yun stopped talking to Xiao Cui and looked in the direction of the door. He saw several people quickly appearing in the empty courtyard. The leader was Miss Qing Yue, whom he had only met a few times.
An Yun was startled by her presence. Soon he remembered the commotion she caused during her last visit, and An Yun became a little curious. What was she doing here this time?
