After Dressing Up As a Little Fulang

Chapter 3 - Sky-high Medical Expenses (2)

Out of anger, Zuo Chengyi’s family had originally come to demand an explanation, but after seeing the man, they suddenly realized their position. What qualifications did they have to ask for an explanation? Given his reputation as the God of Killing, even if he killed them directly, no one would dare say a word.

After all, the man was the city master of this place and in charge of their land.

Unless they could appeal to higher authorities to control the man, they were at his mercy. Unfortunately, the higher-ups were too preoccupied with their own affairs to care about the lives of these people.

The Zuo family members all regretted their actions. One person came forward, knelt straight before the man, kowtowed, and said loudly, “Sir, my son is older than the young master, and his skills are not as good as others. He deserves to end up like this today.”

The man looked at the woman in her thirties with interest, waiting for her next words.

Sure enough, after she finished speaking, she raised her head again and looked at the man. With a hint of determination in her tone, she continued, “However, the young master is only at such an age, but there is no control over his behaviors. He acted without any care. In the future, if the master is unable to protect him in the future, how will the young master survive? Parents spoiling their children is like killing their own children.”

After the woman finished speaking, the hall fell silent. Someone took a deep breath, looking at the woman with fear in their eyes.

The man, who had always had a smile on his face, suppressed his smile and stared straight at the woman, “Are you teaching me on how to handle things?”

Being stared at by that gaze, the woman trembled slightly, a thin layer of sweat forming on her back, but she clenched her palms and said stubbornly, “This civilian woman doesn’t dare. This woman is also a parent and has been taking care of the children. The young master is not only destroying others but also destroying himself.”

The Zuo family closed their eyes silently, feeling a little desperate, thinking they might not leave the mansion alive.

At this level, people at the top often disregard those below them. Being powerful was the way to go. A high-ranking official could crush people to death, let alone one who had reached the level of a city master. There was a noble son next to him. Even if the son killed people all day long for fun, no one would say anything.

However, this woman actually tried to reason with the man.

At this moment, a man rushed in, knelt straight next to the woman, kowtowed to the man in the seat several times, and then said, “Sir, my wife is a housewife, and she is ignorant. She is just talking nonsense here. I hope you will forgive us and let us go this time!”

The man who rushed in was Zuo Chengyi’s father.

After he knelt down, the rest of the Zuo family seemed to react and knelt in unison, kneeling on the ground before the man.

The man looked at them with no expression. When their clothes were completely drenched in sweat, he finally said, “That’s it, it’s Ya’er’s fault this time. Zhao Xin, ask the doctor in the house to take a look at Mr. Zuo’s second son, and give them a hundred taels of silver as compensation for this incident.”

“Yes.” The attendant next to him responded and quickly went to work.

Soon, everyone in the Zuo family left with a look of disbelief and relief, feeling like they had survived a disaster.

.

After Zuo’s family left, the man sat in the main seat for a while, unsure of his thoughts, and suddenly sighed.

Hearing the sound, everyone around him became attentive.

After a moment, the man suddenly remembered something and said to the person next to him, “That young shuanger, is he still here?”

The attendant immediately approached and replied, “He has been taken out.”

The man looked up at him and then ordered, “Bring him back and have the doctor check on him. Let the maids clean him up. Make sure he looks presentable before Ya’er returns.”

The attendant didn’t question further and simply replied, “Yes.”

.

The sun set in the west.

An Yun looked at the red clouds outside and silently pondered the day’s events.

Initially, An Yun thought he would die from the fall off the horse, but unexpectedly, he was bought again.

Upon arriving at this mansion, he overheard conversations revealing that it would cost at least ten thousand taels to restore his health, which would equate to nearly five million in modern’s money.

Not to belittle himself, An Yun felt even in modern times he wouldn’t fetch such a price, let alone in this era.

So, when the family decided to cast him aside rather than exploit what little value he had left, An Yun didn’t plead for mercy. In fact, he felt fortunate they didn’t attempt to recover what they had spent.

Otherwise, An Yun might not have found death so easy.

But shortly after being dismissed, An Yun endured excruciating pain, coughing blood as his strength ebbed away. He mused grimly that he must be the unluckiest time traveler, unaware of his fate until the mansion’s servants rushed to bring him back.

Soon, to An Yun’s bewilderment, they fetched back the doctor they had just sent away, who prescribed medicine, administered injections, and arranged for him to bathe and change into clean, soft clothes.

Once everything was done, a particularly stern housekeeper entered and addressed him with a few solemn words.

An Yun’s current master had not yet returned. When he did, An Yun would have to please him. If the master didn’t like him and decided to cast him out, An Yun would be left to fend for himself.

An Yun believed if he was a man of integrity, he would refuse to please others and face being cast out.

However, having struggled to survive in the orphanage, An Yun had faced the specter of death twice. Given the chance, he still wanted to live, even if the life wasn’t ideal.

So, An Yun listened silently to the housekeeper’s words and, after consuming the medicinal food brought by the maid, he quietly waited in the room. He waited for his legendary master to return, anticipating what fate might befall him next.

As the afterglow of the setting sun faded and servants outside began hanging lanterns, footsteps suddenly approached from outside.

An Yun first heard a young man muttering in confusion, “I got into a fight today, and heard the person came to complain to father. But instead of scolding me, he said he’d give me a gift. Do you think something’s wrong with father today?”

“Young master, the master has always cherished you. It’s not unusual,” replied the housekeeper.

The conversation concluded, and the door creaked open as someone pushed it from the outside.

An Yun gripped his clothes tightly, eyes fixed on the door, waiting for the newcomer to enter.
