Chapter 48 - First Kiss (1)
The Qiqiao Festival, also known as the Qixi Festival, was a day for boys and girls to express their love and having fun.
Over time, whether it was the officials governing the area for political achievements, the local businessmen trying to make a fortune, or even the people wanting to relax for a day after the end of the year, they all worked hard to develop it and make the festival prosperous.
Zang Ya took him out to celebrate the Qiqiao Festival?
When An Yun heard what the little maids said, he didn’t believe it at first. He felt that the young master was not the type to celebrate such a festival, and with his own status, it would be inappropriate to go.
Those little maids didn’t think so. They felt that their young master loved An Yun very much and had never seen anyone more favoured than An Yun.
Seeing that An Yun was interested in this, and thinking that Zang Ya would take him out, the maids couldn’t help but get excited, talking to him about what happened at the Qiqiao Festival, trying to arouse his interest.
“Fulang, I heard that for this Qiqiao Festival, the government specially invited many skilled craftsmen to make beautiful lanterns. The whole street was decorated extremely beautifully.”
“Yes, and I also heard that you can see many wanderers who come to perform on such occasions. Their illusions are really amazing.”
“Also, my mother said that there will be a lot of food sold at this Qiqiao Festival. Although the prices are a little higher than usual, the taste is amazing. Some foods aren’t even available on weekdays except this day. There’s no trace of them at all. It’s said to be a holiday special that only comes once a year.”
“Not only that, I went there once with my family when I was a child. There were many entertainment projects on the street. You could participate in them after paying. I still remember begging my mother to let me catch a lot of little koi fish. They were really beautiful. Unfortunately, within a few days of bringing them home, they were eaten by wild cats that came from who-knows-where. I was very sad at the time.”
The little maids talked with great interest. An Yun, who had not been very interested in this festival at first, gradually became intrigued. He even secretly hoped that Zang Ya would take him out at night, just as the maids had said, to participate in this festival.
It wasn’t that An Yun wanted to go out and play; he just wanted to experience the prosperity of this era and see the scenery here that was different from modern times.
With this secret expectation in his heart, An Yun looked forward to Zang Ya’s return in the afternoon.
He had lunch, drank medicine, took a nap, had dinner, and drank more medicine.
Time passed little by little, and the sky grew darker, but there was still no sign of Zang Ya returning.
An Yun’s initial expectations gradually turned into disappointment, and eventually, he began to give up. He was simply curious about where Zang Ya was going to take him and why it was so late.
Seeing that it was only an hour before An Yun’s usual bedtime, but Zang Ya still hadn’t come back, An Yun even began to consider whether he should go to bed first.
There were no electric lights at night in ancient times, and An Yun had nothing to do. In the past, he would go to bed early. However, today, in order to wait for Zang Ya, who had said he wanted to take him out, An Yun kept holding on.
Xiao Cui was sitting under the light doing handicrafts. From the corner of her eye, she saw An Yun, who was reading a script next to her, yawning. She put down her embroidery work, looked at An Yun, and suggested, “Fulang, if you are sleepy, you can go to sleep for a while. I’ll help you watch here. When the young master comes back, I’ll wake you up immediately.”
An Yun was a little moved by the proposal, but thinking about what Zang Ya had said earlier, he shook his head. “I’m afraid I’ll really fall asleep. It would be bad if the young master came back and saw me sleeping.”
Seeing him like this, Xiao Cui thought for a while and said, “Then, fulang, lean on the table and sleep for a while.”
Before An Yun could answer, there was a noise at the door, followed by Zang Ya’s voice, “Why are you still dressed like this? Didn’t I say I would take you out today? Go change into lighter clothes; let’s leave immediately.”
An Yun heard the sound and looked toward the door, only to see Zang Ya, who had returned unexpectedly, standing at the entrance and looking at him.
Zang Ya wore a dark red brocade robe, with a belt inlaid with sapphires on his forehead. He looked very noble and chic.
With Zang Ya’s arrival, the originally quiet room immediately became lively, and the maids serving An Yun sprang into action.
Unaware of what Zang Ya was thinking, he raised his chin in An Yun’s direction and said, “Give him a white set to wear. He looks good in that colour.”
“Yes!”
An Yun still hadn’t come to his senses when he saw Zang Ya arrive. Only when the maids next to him busily attended to him did he start to feel more grounded.
Zang Ya waited, and An Yun didn’t dare to delay. In less than a quarter of an hour, he had changed his clothes and emerged, even with some makeup applied by a deft maid.
Zang Ya glanced An Yun up and down and appeared quite satisfied with his appearance. Then he took An Yun’s hand and walked outside. “Let’s go; it’s busy outside, and it’s just the right time for us to go.”
An Yun’s hands were always cold, especially at night, but Zang Ya’s hands were warm. He didn’t know what had happened just then, but he even felt a little warmth spread through him.
As An Yun held Zang Ya’s hand, he felt a faint burning sensation.
An Yun’s eyes shifted from Zang Ya’s face to the hands they were holding, and a strange, unexplainable feeling stirred within him.
