Chapter 38: Good Brothers Share the Drama
Chapter 38: Good Brothers Share the Drama
Smith approached Su Mu, looking down at him condescendingly.
Su Mu stepped back twice, repelled by the strong stench of alcohol.
Seeing this retreat, Smith mistook it for fear, making him even more smug.
“Kid, play what I tell you to, and I’ll give you this.”
Drunk and unsteady, Smith leaned one hand on the piano lid while the other fumbled inside his suit collar.
Su Mu coldly watched his movements, particularly displeased with his greasy hand resting on the piano.
After a moment, Smith pulled out a check from his chest pocket, waving it around.
“How about it? Play, and this is yours.”
“An opportunity like this won’t come again.”
Su Mu remained unmoved, not even bothering to raise his eyes. His voice finally took on a cold edge, losing its earlier politeness.
“Sir, I’ll say it one more time – you should leave now. First, we don’t take requests here. Second, you’ve wasted everyone’s time already. Can’t you see how annoyed they all are with you?”
“What, not enough money? I knew you people were greedy. Here, it’s a blank check – write any number you want.”
Smith smiled disdainfully, his alcohol-laden breath and yellow teeth fully exposed.
It just made Su Mu feel sick.
True, he needed money, but he earned it honorably and wouldn’t accept humiliation.
Moreover, since he was playing at the bar, he was here to serve all the patrons, not satisfy one person’s whims.
Su Mu chose to ignore him, looking again toward where Manager Wang had been, but the manager was now gone.
Even if this person was of high status, surely the bar wouldn’t let him continue disrupting business – it would hurt their reputation.
Besides, knowing Shang Guan Fan, Su Mu didn’t think such a “madman” would allow this behavior in his bar.
So he waited, expecting bar staff to come remove this nuisance.
But Smith grew angry at being ignored.
He’d never experienced such rejection before. Even the few proud ones he’d encountered eventually crumbled when offered enough money.
Money makes the world go round – no one turns it down.
So when Su Mu didn’t react like others had – eyes lighting up at the sight of a check, instantly changing from proud to subservient – Smith felt a desire to conquer him.
Like someone who had never faced failure elsewhere, he now approached this like conquering a stubborn illness, determined to make Su Mu submit to him.
He flicked the check toward Su Mu, letting it hit his chest and fall straight down.
Su Mu’s expression grew dark, a barely noticeable violence flashing in his eyes.
Seeing Su Mu’s gaze, Smith sobered up slightly.
What kind of look was that?
Why did it feel like he was being viewed as an ant beneath contempt?
Wasn’t he the one who should be viewing the other as dust, someone as lowly as a dog begging for his charity?
Why did he see… killing intent in those eyes?
That couldn’t be right?
Smith muttered something in English that sounded like a curse, then grabbed Su Mu’s collar and yanked him up.
The crowd gasped – Smith was a burly man while the pianist appeared delicate, looking like someone who couldn’t take a hit.
Such a difference in build meant an obvious strength disparity, making everyone nervous for the unfortunate pianist.
Su Mu, pulled up by his collar, rose to his tiptoes, swaying unsteadily as if he couldn’t stand properly.
The corners of his eyes turned red, making him look pitiful, like an injured deer.
Su Mu was naturally handsome, attracting not just women but men as well.
Some people, unable to bear seeing such a beauty in tears, were already stirring to action. Even knowing Smith’s status, they wanted to rescue the beauty from this drunk.
But one person moved fastest.
The crowd only saw a shadow flash past.
Instead of taking the side stairs, this person directly vaulted onto the stage from the front, supporting himself with one hand.
Then in one swift move, he grabbed Smith’s collar from behind while his other hand worked to loosen Smith’s grip on Su Mu.
With one powerful motion, he separated them while violently pulling Smith away, following through with a merciless kick.
“BANG!”
The heavy body hit the stage floor with a dull thud.
Just seeing the arc of Smith’s flight made everyone gasp, their feelings shifting from wanting to strangle Smith to fearing he might die right there in a pool of blood.
After kicking away the trash, Chu Hanting didn’t even glance at Smith, as if today’s business partner wasn’t worth his attention at all.
He turned back to embrace Su Mu protectively.
Gently patting his back, he asked, “Why didn’t you fight back or call for help? Would you have just let him bully you if I hadn’t come?”
Seeing Su Mu’s reddened eyes and slight sniffle, his face full of grievance, Chu Hanting’s heart suddenly tightened.
Su Mu buried his head against Chu Hanting’s chest, his voice muffled, “I couldn’t beat him, he’s too strong.”
But Chu Hanting couldn’t see Su Mu’s expression as he lowered his head – he was smirking.
True, he couldn’t win in a fight, but he could have dodged.
He hadn’t dodged because just before Smith grabbed him, he’d spotted someone entering through the door.
Despite the distance, his soul recognized Chu Hanting’s figure immediately.
So he deliberately didn’t dodge, instantly reddened his eyes, and positioned himself at an angle where Smith wouldn’t block his expression.
Yes, he was being calculating, deliberately so.
He wanted to catch Chu Hanting’s attention, and never doubted for a moment that Chu Hanting would help him.
He knew Chu Hanting wouldn’t accept his feelings quickly, but would never stand by watching him get bullied.
Otherwise, how would he get this chance for close contact?
Opportunities are created, and suddenly he felt grateful for the drunk’s unreasonable behavior.
At least it proved one thing – Chu Hanting wasn’t completely indifferent to him.
He knew this man too well. If Mr. Chu truly disliked someone, he wouldn’t lift a finger to help even if Su Mu was beaten to death right there.
Being protected like this meant there was hope!!!
Shang Guan Fan finally rushed to the hall, followed by the panting Manager Wang.
Coming from the corridor, he stopped short at the sight of Old Chu holding someone.
Manager Wang nearly crashed into him from behind.
“Well, well, Old Chu’s got game, already embracing him.”
Shang Guan Fan wasn’t worried anymore. Hands in pockets, he strolled over casually.
Clearly enjoying the show.
He even took out his phone, found the right angle, and took several photos to send to Liu Yu. His excuse: Good brothers share information – and drama.
