Chapter 47: Because Uncle is Older Than Brother
Chapter 47: Because Uncle is Older Than Brother
“Thank you, Chu Hanting.”
Su Mu was referring to helping him find the best doctors and such – he knew he couldn’t do it alone.
Only someone powerful like Chu Hanting could find the world’s best doctors and medicines.
For this, he was endlessly grateful.
With Chu Hanting’s help, his father’s chances of survival increased.
Su Mu looked up at him, “Chu Hanting, I won’t be polite this time. I really need your help with my father’s situation. Whatever I owe you, I’ll try my best to repay in the future.”
Su Mu wasn’t sure if he could ever repay it, but for his father’s life, he had no choice but to rely on Chu Hanting’s money and influence.
He would try his best to repay it.
Chu Hanting ruffled his hair, “Silly, this is nothing to me.”
Just then, the little girl’s voice broke their moment.
“Uncle and Brother, are you a couple?”
Her scraped knee had been cleaned and didn’t affect her walking.
Seeing the nice brother who helped her being hugged by another big brother, she asked curiously.
Children are innocent after all, without reservations or ill intentions, asking whatever comes to mind.
“Pfft,” Su Mu’s gloomy mood was broken by the little girl’s use of “Uncle.”
Chu Hanting frowned slightly – did he look that old?
Su Mu stepped out of Chu Hanting’s embrace, “This… ‘Uncle’ and I,” Su Mu emphasized those words heavily while watching Chu Hanting’s reaction, “are good friends.”
The little girl still looked confused: “But mommy says only family members and married couples hug each other.”
“That’s not true. Your mommy forgot to tell you that good friends can hug too.”
The little girl nodded, seeming half-understanding, and dropped the subject.
“Thank you, Brother and Uncle.” She was a good child who knew to show gratitude when helped.
For Chu Hanting, though, it was a double kill.
“Why do you call him Brother but call me Uncle?” Chu Hanting couldn’t help but ask, frowning.
The little girl replied matter-of-factly: “Because Uncle is older than Brother.”
Chu Hanting: …
Su Mu covered his mouth to hide his laughter – children’s honest words were indeed the most adorable.
“Little girl, why are you here?”
An elderly voice called out, drawing closer.
Hearing the voice, the little girl rushed over and jumped into the elderly man’s arms.
“Grandpa, grandpa, someone bumped into me earlier and hurt my knee. These two big brothers helped me.”
Earlier, her grandpa had gone for a checkup, so she was waiting outside when a careless adult bumped into her, causing her to hurt her knee.
Zhang Yitian, hearing that his granddaughter had been hurt, worriedly looked at her knee, only relaxing after confirming it wasn’t serious.
Then he turned his attention to the two people his granddaughter said had helped her.
He held his granddaughter’s hand and walked towards Su Mu and Chu Hanting, “Thank you both. I’m Zhang Yitian, and this is my granddaughter. If you’d like any reward, feel free to name it.”
The little girl was his precious pearl, his most beloved granddaughter, and he was willing to grant any reasonable request to thank them for their help.
Su Mu smiled and said, “It was nothing, no need to thank us.”
Now that the little girl’s guardian was here, there was nothing more for them to do.
“Shall we go?” This was directed at Chu Hanting.
Chu Hanting nodded, and they both left.
They walked back to Su Nuokang’s hospital room door.
Chu Hanting looked at the nervous Su Mu and said, “I won’t go in. Let me know if you need anything, especially regarding treatment. Don’t hesitate to ask.”
Su Mu nodded, “Than-“
Before he could finish the word, a finger pressed against his lips.
“You’ve thanked me once already, no more thanks allowed. If you want to thank me, wait until Mr. Su recovers, then you can thank me properly.”
“Mm, I definitely will then.”
His father would surely get better!
Chu Hanting gently flicked Su Mu’s cute nose, “I’ll be waiting.”
After Chu Hanting left, Su Mu spent some time with Su Nuokang in the hospital room before heading home, as there wasn’t much else to do.
After all, tomorrow was the day of his very important competition, and he had a tough battle ahead.
With Chu Hanting’s help in gathering the best doctors, and since his father’s condition was discovered early, Su Mu’s worries were almost completely gone. He believed his father would ultimately defeat the illness.
So, he slept well that night.
The next day, he woke up early to his alarm.
Better to arrive early than risk being late due to unexpected traffic or other delays.
This was a momentous event in his life, one that would affect his future and development.
There was only one chance, so he naturally had to grasp it firmly.
The competition was scheduled for 10 AM, and it took about an hour to drive from his home to the venue. But since it was Saturday, traffic would definitely be heavier, so Su Mu left home at 7 AM.
The taxi driver looked at Su Mu’s destination and his attire, and immediately knew he was going to participate in the New Youth Cup Piano Competition.
He struck up a friendly conversation: “Young man, are you going to the competition? That’s impressive, it’s very hard to qualify for this competition.”
Su Mu was surprised that even a taxi driver knew about this competition. “Driver, you know about this competition?”
“Yes, my daughter, she studies piano too, and she’s top of her class, but she didn’t make it in. That’s why I know just how difficult this competition is.”
Su Mu smiled without commenting, but it was true. This wasn’t an ordinary competition – the threshold was extremely high.
To make a comparison, it was like gathering the top students from every province and city for a selection.
It was already a competition among elites, and only fifty people in all of China would make it to the offline competition – not even enough spots for one person from each ethnic group.
After today’s preliminary round, only twenty people would compete for the final ten winning positions.
Securing one of those ten positions was essentially equivalent to getting a foothold in the piano world.
Su Mu gazed out the car window, his serious expression reflected in the glass, his eyes confident and determined.
He could definitely do this, he thought as he clenched his fist in self-encouragement, his eyes full of determination to succeed.
The drive would take an hour, so Su Mu dozed in the car while mentally reviewing his sheet music.
The driver, feeling bored, turned on the radio to listen to broadcasts.
The song request channel started playing, cycling through various popular songs.
“Breaking news: The Chu Group’s multi-billion yuan commercial complex, the largest in China, opens today.”
“Breaking news: The Chu Group…”
This announcement was repeated three times before returning to the song request platform.
Su Mu, who had been in a meditative state with his eyes closed, instantly awakened at the mention of “Chu,” as if it had triggered something in his brain.
He unconsciously repeated what he had just heard.
