Chapter 74: Choosing an assistant
Damien felt amused. He curled his lips in a light smirk before saying, "Healer Azriel, are you the worm in my stomach? How can you deduce my thoughts without me putting them into words?"
He then looked at Xavier before saying, "Did I say that I am not going to treat him?"
Xavier glanced at Healer Azriel before shaking his head as he replied, "No, you didn't, Lord Damien."
His words caused Azriel to flush red in embarrassment. The man clenched and unclenched his fingers as if he wished to hurl it at Damien but held himself back upon seeing the sturdy physique of Xavier.
He tightly smiled at Damien before saying, "I —was just saying that you are shirking responsibility. Treating snake venom is not a matter of child's play. Certainly, you are trying to shake off the responsibility by telling us that he has been poisoned."
After he finished throwing a bunch of accusations which reminded Damien of his senior resident doctor who always tried to put him down for he was lacking in more than one way, he scoffed and added in a contemptuous voice, "A perfect plan I will say. Make me look like a loser and a cold-hearted man while you win the hearts of others."
"But don't be fooled! Haha. I will have you kicked out of this guild, just wait!" Azirel exclaimed excitedly.
Gina on the other hand seemed to be getting more and more dissatisfied with Azriel. She said to him with slight annoyance, "It is not up to you to decide who will stay and who will not, Healer Azriel. The power to make this decision lies with Master Godric."
Azriel looked simply unabashed as he dismissively waved his hand and remarked, "He will be convinced when everyone in the guild agrees with me."
Which meant that he was going to threaten everyone in the guild and make them do his bidding, Gina thought to herself.
Looking satisfied at Gina's expression Azriel turned on his feet and headed out of the infirmary.
"Hold it."
Azriel paused right in front of the door. With his hand on the doorknob, he turned to look at Damien who was smiling at him, looking unbothered.
"My dear Lord Azriel, please be patient. Even the judges in the council give a person a chance to provide evidence to prove their innocence," Damien said to the man. He then turned to look at Adikus before saying, "Can you find the venom of the beastman who attacked him?"
"I—I can," Adikus replied with a bewildered expression.
"Then go and bring it," Damien told the man as he turned his attention to Sigurd's vitals before saying, "Don't be too late. If you delay for another fifteen minutes then even I will not be able to save him."
Adikus's eyes widened upon hearing those words, he immediately turned on his feet and rushed out of the infirmary brushing past a stunned Azriel.
"What —what do you think you are doing?" Azriel asked, feeling a sense of crisis.
Damien turned his gaze away from the 3D hologram screen, he glanced at the healer behind him before saying, "What else? I am going to create an Anti venom."
"Impossible!" Azriel refused to believe that this man could create an antidote for the venom that no one else could, including the higher-ranking priests in the church.
"Hmm? Is it?" Damien turned and looked at Azriel. He raised a brow and said to the man, "Just because you cannot do it —doesn't mean no one else can do the same." He turned to look at Xavier and snapped his fingers before saying, "Tell him, Xavier, didn't we create the venom for the Impert Snake beast?"
Xavier turned and looked at Azriel before stating promptly, "Lord Damien is speaking the truth, Healer Azriel. He indeed created the antivenom for the Impert snake beast. I watched him do it —he also saved the life of one of your guild mates, Samuel.
If you don't trust him then you can ask Samuel, you will believe him right?" He added with narrowed eyes and Azriel's expression turned twisted and embarrassed.
"That's— that's just," Azriel stammered while Gina turned to look at Damien with an impressed expression. "Is it true? Did you really create an antivenom?"
"Of course—"
"He did!" A new voice joined them and as the four people inside the infirmary turned to look at the woman standing at the doorway, they realised it was Thalia.
"What are you doing here?" Not satisfied with the interruption Azriel turned and glared at the woman. "This is not a place where you should be at the moment."
"Why not?" Thalia retorted right back with a sneer. "Are you afraid that your lies will come to light?"
"Thalia, do you even know the consequences of such lies?" Azriel couldn't help but intervene. He glanced at the woman with a stern gaze, intending to scare her off. "If you are found spreading rumours that are not true, you will be putting not only yourself but even your family at risk of being abandoned by the guild."
"Azriel, are you threatening her?" Gina questioned harshly.
"I am not, just telling the young lady how things go around here—"
"I brought it!" Before Gina could say anything anymore, Adikus returned. In his hand was a black vial.
Ignoring the furious gaze with which Azriel was staring at him, Adikus walked past him. He handed the vial to Damien before saying, "I bought the venom, Lord Damien."
Damien took the vial from Adikus. He unscrewed the cork of the vial and asked Dan, "Run a check on this venom. See if this is the same one as the one which was injected in the body of this beastman."
"Right away, host," Dan blinked his eyes before they turned and morphed into bright blue orbs. Strings of codes flickered through his irises and after three seconds, he said to Damien, "It is the same one."
Only then did Damien pick up the syringe from the cabinet and draw a decent amount of venom within it. He followed the same procedure as he had done before when he was creating the anti-venom for Impert Snake's venom, causing the people in the infirmary to gasp.
"What —what kind of idiocy is this?" Azriel asked, looking horrified. Was this man crazy?
