Chapter 55
“Phew… As expected, Akira does good work.”
Saioji murmured in a relaxed tone as she poured freshly brewed coffee from the home coffee maker into a cup, savoring its aroma.
Somehow, the usual tense atmosphere around her seemed to have softened.
In one of the rooms of my newly bought, still sparsely furnished house, Saioji had installed a large coffee maker, which had been specifically ordered from Akira. To power it, there was a huge portable generator sitting nearby. The room was slowly being overtaken by various pieces of furniture from brands I’d never heard of, all ordered at lightning speed through Saioji’s network.
“Sorry to interrupt your peace, but… what’s all this?”
Because the request came directly from Saioji, Akira, her former servant, and others who had ties to Japan seemed to have become hyper-focused.
To clarify, Akira and those people who help me out are usually attentive to my requests and take them seriously, prioritizing them. But when Saioji Shizuku is involved, a competition erupted over who would take on the task first.
Saioji’s requests were several, starting with the luxury brand furniture she’s now using, such as the chair, table, and cup—items that aren’t available for general sale. These are special pieces, prepared for investors and shareholders by the furniture company.
Normally, it would take quite a bit of time and effort to arrange such things, but the team handling Saioji’s request completed the task in a single day, delivering these massive pieces to the empty room where the Moon Gate was set up.
The furniture was so large that the regular Moon Gate couldn’t handle it, and they had to create a larger version just to move everything. In exchange for this cooperation, a considerable sum had been deposited into my account.
While that aspect could be treated like business, I wasn’t sure how to handle the fact that Saioji was leisurely enjoying coffee in my home.
“I see you haven’t set up the bed yet. I recommend this one—it’s quite comfortable.”
“Well, it sure looks like it…” I replied, eyeing the plush bedding.
In addition to the portable generator and coffee maker, there were also bedding items. I was beginning to worry she might suggest moving in.
“I’m not about to just impose on you like some live-in wife. Consider this my housewarming gift for your new place.”
“Well, if that’s all…”
It seemed that she intended to take some of the bedding she had prepared back with her, as it would be difficult to fit a huge bed into the team house. Instead, she planned to transport smaller items and decorations. This also meant she was leaving the coffee maker and generator as gifts for me.
“But, I can’t drink coffee.”
“You might want to get used to it. It’s worth a try, though I wouldn’t recommend drinking too much.”
With practiced movements, Saioji operated the coffee maker and poured me a cup as well. With the weather gradually growing colder, a warm drink was welcome.
“Oh, it’s surprisingly good.”
“Right? Partly because the equipment is top-tier, but also, it’s not uncommon to find things taste better as you get older. It’s a change in your palate.”
I’ve never had much of a taste for bitter things, though I enjoy alcohol, so I always assumed I disliked coffee for its aroma. But now, drinking it, I found it unexpectedly tasty.
Maybe it wasn’t because of my past life as Shinjo Masato, but because of my new body as Allen that I could enjoy it.
As I pondered this, letting out a sigh of contentment, Saioji, who had been tidying up the coffee maker, suddenly spoke.
“By the way, that elf that was being sold at the Royal Capital’s black market… Did you buy her?”
She dropped the question with the same casual ease as if continuing a light conversation, though her words cut sharp like a blade.
