Introduction: Plant Magic?
Plant Magic: An introduction to Phytomancy
When people think of Plant Magic, they may imagine a scene where a mage would control plants to restrain an enemy, or make a field of flowers appear beneath their feet. However, Plant Magic is much more than that.
Actually, “Plant Magic” is an imprecise, portmanteau term for many many different fields of magic applied to plants. It is better to use the Mage Tower’s official terminology for plant based fields of magic, with the official term for “Plant Magic” being Phytomancy.
For example, the first two examples belong to the subfields of Phytokinesis and Phytogenesis respectively. This goes to show the variety of Phytomancy, a field of magic not to be taken lightly. Indeed, Phytomancers can occupy many different roles, ranging from attacker, support and production roles, being especially valuable during sieges.
To talk about the elemental derivation of Phytomancy, it derives from the earth, life and water elements, conferring it the defensive qualities of Geomancy, the regenerative properties of Latromancy (Healing Magic) and the flexibility of Hydromancy. The fact that Phytomancy is derived from so many elemental magics shows, again, its versatility.
One of the biggest concerns for students in this field are the career paths available for this field. A common misconception is that all Phytomancers become farmers. Of course, that is a plausible career choice, however, there are a multitude of jobs, many well remunerated, that Phytomancers can choose to follow. When explaining each field of Phytomancy, we will discuss the corresponding job prospects. At worst, you could go and become an Academy professor.
In this introduction to Phytomancy, we will be covering the main branches of this magic, Phytokinesis, Phytopathy, Phytogenesis, Herbology and APM.
