An Unwelcome Hero - shadow slave

Chapter 27: The son comes back home

The bullets of sweat on Elbaf's head finally stopped, as he began calming himself *The greatest threat to our nation, the most powerful awakened and now ascended I have faced in my life, and he is nothing but an idiot! The greatest threat to Aranai, is a soldier, who forgot who's side he is on!* His Mind slowly booted up once again.

Elbaf expected EVERYTHING except the answer he got. He waited and wanted to hear about how Aranai wronged Chiron. Maybe he was bullied by his fellow Guardian Corps members into developing a hated for Aranai, maybe he was put down or looked down upon in the Guardian Corps.

He was ready to be personally responsible for creating Chiron and to take on the burden of Chiron's wrath completely to appease him enough to at least no longer attack the civilians. Hewas fully willing to be told he caused the downfall of Aranai and would accept his death just to minimize the severity... But when he heard Chiron's story... How can anyone accept such an absurd situation?! *One of the greatest warriors our country ever produced... Forgot he was on our side.*

"Give me... A minute... I need to... lie down... Brain... Not functioning." It took Elbaf a couple of minutes to regain his bearings, completely forgetting his citizens were being genocided, due to his mental instability. He took time to regain his composure.

Elbaf finally sat up and looked at Chiron "Listen, nobody knows who the current you is. And even if they did, you haven't done anything technically illegal."

Now this caught Chiron's attention. "*How have I, after killing almost TEN thousand men and women and maybe some children, not committed a crime? Is he messing with me?* Now, and how exactly does this MASSACRE not count as a crime? Enlighten me."

Elbaf nodded his head and said "According to her holy majesty, when we send a spy to foreign land's, Analand in this situation, they are to make sure they remain in absolute concealment and never do anything outside of their norm without an order."

"*So, I was basically following orders to a T and due to not being branded or tried as a traitor, I am still technically undercover and my Aranai citizen identity is free of crime.* Alright then, what about today? I don't exactly feel like her holy majesty would attribute today's attack as a simple 'me being in character'. How would I explain this to her?" Chiron analyzed Elbaf's words and figured out ahead of him why he, Chiron the bastard of Aranai could come back home a hero.

"As you simply followed your orders, we cannot punish you for the previous crimes, but it is true this ordeal can't be counted as you following orders due to the malicious intent behind it. But there is a work around to even this!"

Chiron motioned Elbaf to continue. He was thoroughly convinced and more than willing to go along with any plan Elbaf came up with.

"From what I understand, you have killed all the people, who knows your appearance, besides me! I can personally vouch for you and you can rejoin YOUR homeland. You can help us fight Analand. With you, we are almost guaranteed victory! And with your strength, you're most likely to become a nobility candidate. I saw how your men fought and the impressive skills they possessed and I know you will most definitely even achieve the title of a Minor General! You can rejoin Aranai as my retainer and I will be your guarantor to cover up this attack. No one will know about you leading it, only that you stopped it!"

Chiron went into his own mind by now and genuinely considered this option. *I think I get it now. So he wants to help me ascend into nobility, while keeping his life fully intact and having an 'ascended' noble under his boot through the blackmail of today. Quite the clever scheme, Elbaf. Too bad I will be long gone, as I have already figured out the ending condition of this nightmare!*

Chiron nodded his head, subconsciously, as he recounted his deductions. *I was originally supposed to meet the assassin on my first day, use my Guardian Corpse skill and he would recognize me, we would team up and assassinate the general, or something so and so. That was probably the original script, but I never attacked or why didn't he recognize me? Was it the height? Or was it, that Guardian Corps my ability is just too bastardized to be recognized? I have no idea, but I guess I have derailed this scenario enough, might as well get it back on track.*

Chiron nodded his head again to this rough plan and said "If I can be welcomed back into Aranai, why should I ever go to Analand? You've convinced me Elbaf. MEN! PASSIVE MODE!" His flames suddenly went out and his soldiers quickly gathered together and formed a defensive line and stopped the slaughter and waited for Chiron to give a command.

He had killed a good couple hundred soldiers by himself and his man didn't slack off either with the civilian kills. The amount of memories gained from Aranai type "mobs" was enough for him, so he wasn't against turning his massacre towards Analand now!

Chiron extended his hand towards Elbaf and said "Long live Aranai!" Elbaf smiled along with him and took his hand, standing up. "Long live Aranai." Elbaf returned the handshake and Chiron's palm hit his forehead " You and I better call off our men! Fuck, how many brothers and sister have they killed!"

"...*How can someone's demeanor change so rapidly?*" Elbaf learned that day that it is better to work around than with Chiron.
