Ch63 - Along with Luke's dragon...
Chapter 3: Along with Luke’s dragon…
After asking Himeri to handle the closing duties of the fluffy cafe, Taichi came to the Tamer Guild alone.
He was checking if there were any requests he could take on together since he was going dragon hunting for dinner materials with Luke that night.
(I need to raise my guild rank…)
When Taichi first arrived in this other world, he intended to live a life free from battles. He had hoped to live leisurely while running a fluffy cafe.
However, that plan had to change.
The reason was that the property he rented from the Tamer Guild had become too cramped. Since he had acquired more fluffy companions, he wanted a larger space, but there were no other suitable properties available.
So, he was planning to buy the current location and the surrounding land… but there was a problem. His guild level wasn’t high enough—!
Taichi’s guild rank was F.
The requirement for purchasing a property was a guild rank of D, so he needed to raise his rank by two levels.
Thus, he wanted to take on some requests at the guild to increase his rank.
(But I’m not good at fighting…)
Basically, he usually relied on Luke and Cerberus for combat-related requests, but Taichi would prefer fun requests like caring for familiars.
The Tamer Guild was a large building located a couple of blocks off the main street.
It was likely built to accommodate larger magical beasts, as there were also lodging facilities available for familiars, which Taichi had initially used.
“Hello~”
Upon entering the Tamer Guild, the usual sound of crickets greeted him. There were really very few tamers in this world—or rather, in this town.
Taichi hoped that with the influence of the fluffy cafe, more fluffy lovers and tamers would appear.
Shalti, who was at the reception, looked up and noticed him.
“Welcome! Oh, Taichi-san—!”
Shalti was surprised by Taichi’s sudden appearance and looked around in confusion.
With her sky-blue hair and colorful hairpins, she wore an adorable uniform consisting of a white top and a sky-blue skirt.
Since Taichi often brought along impressive or numerous magical beasts, she had developed a habit of becoming wary whenever he showed up.
Shalti then looked behind Taichi with a puzzled expression.
“Um, where are the newly registered familiars?”
“Ahaha… I’m not here to register any familiars today.”
“Huh?”
Shalti blinked in surprise at Taichi’s words, likely wondering what he was doing at the Tamer Guild instead.
“I came to take on a request.”
“Oh, a request—wait, Taichi-san is finally taking on a request!!”
Shalti was so moved that tears welled up in her eyes.
“I’m so happy! You said you needed to take on requests to raise your guild rank for the property purchase, but you hadn’t come for a long time! I’m glad you’re here now!”
“I’m sorry for not being able to come often. I was hoping for a request related to taking care of familiars—”
“I’ve prepared some amazing requests just for you, Taichi-san!”
Before Taichi could finish his sentence, Shalti plopped a stack of request forms on the counter.
There were easily dozens of them.
Taichi’s cheeks twitched involuntarily.
“Wait a moment… I’m a beginner, you know.”
(What on earth are you planning to make me do, Shalti-san!?)
He felt a chill run down his spine.
He was almost overwhelmed by the urge to U-turn and go back home, but—doing so would mean he couldn’t expand the fluffy cafe.
Gritting his teeth, Taichi resigned himself and said, “Please take it easy on me…”
Shalti organized the request forms for Taichi to see and began explaining them one by one.
“After all, you have Luke with you, Taichi-san. We’d like you to take on some monster subjugation requests!”
“I figured as much…”
Luke was incredibly strong and could defeat most monsters in an instant. After all, he was capable of hunting dragons just because he wanted to eat them.
The request forms listed relatively easy monsters like orcs, goblins, and wolves, as well as slightly tougher ones like wild minotaurs and platinum golems.
(These are all monsters Luke has defeated before.)
This was much more reassuring than accepting requests for monsters he had no prior knowledge of.
(It’s a pity there aren’t any dragon subjugation requests.)
He thought that if there were any dragon requests, it would be a two-birds-one-stone situation, but unfortunately, there were none. To begin with, dragons wouldn’t usually be found in places easily accessible to humans…
“By the way, aren’t there any requests for caring for familiars or magical beasts? I’d be even happier if they were fluffy!”
“That’s a classic Taichi-san choice. They’re not completely absent, but the compensation isn’t as high as for the subjugation requests, and you’ll rank up slower doing those.”
“Ugh…”
When faced with that reasoning, he couldn’t help but think that the subjugation requests would indeed be better.
(As it stands, there’s no room to increase the number of familiars…)
What would he do if he encountered a destined meeting with a new familiar? He didn’t want to say he couldn’t keep them because his home was too small.
Suppressing his emotions, Taichi nodded.
“Understood… I’ll take on the subjugation requests. I’ll do my best to raise my guild rank by two levels and expand the house… so everyone can live comfortably!”
“That’s the spirit, Taichi-san! Then let’s take on these requests one by one. Don’t worry; they’re all weaker than Luke!”
To get started, he accepted requests for orcs, kobolds, and wolves. Although he felt a bit panicked at taking on three at once, Shalti’s inexplicable trust in him, stating, “You’ll be fine, Taichi-san!” made the decision for him.
“Just remember that you’ll need to bring back proof of subjugation for each monster.”
“Got it. I’ll do my best…”
The proof of subjugation included the ear of the orc, the claw of the kobold, and the fang of the wolf.
(This is brutal… I wonder if Luke will do it for me…)
As those thoughts crossed his mind, Taichi returned to the fluffy cafe.
