Chapter 15
Rain returned to the Mage Tower and immediately sought out his master.
Normally, he would have to write a report about his mission, but something more urgent was at hand.
As Rain ascended the tower, he recalled the little girl he had seen.
A girl named Seris from a typical rural village, who was surprisingly calm for her young age and even demonstrated swordplay.
Surely, if that were all, Rain wouldn’t have gone to see his master.
The moment Seris felt mana for the first time, she formed her inner world and began using her own unique magic.
Brilliant starlight magic, Rain had never heard of such a thing.
Such breathtaking magic must surely have been recorded in the grand library of the Mage Tower.
After climbing an endless staircase, he arrived at a narrow hallway with an old door standing alone.
Rain approached the door without hesitation.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
“Master!”
The old door rattled as Rain knocked with his fist.
At that moment, a voice came from inside.
[Is that you, Rain?]
“Yes!”
As soon as Rain’s reply finished, the old door swung open.
What lay beyond the door was an ordinary-looking study.
However, Rain knew that what he was seeing wasn’t the truth.
Phenomena where the very space would shift according to the owner’s will was among the commonplace happenings in the Mage Tower.
Rain walked slowly towards his master.
An elderly man with a long white beard and matching hair was dressed in a blue robe, looking at Rain with eyes imbued with blue mana.
“Have you written your report?”
“Ah, not yet. I was going to do that later.”
“Then what brings you here after a month?”
Rain began to gather his thoughts, recalling the image of the little girl at his master’s words.
Under normal circumstances, he would have realized his master’s slight disappointment and offered an apology, but all that filled Rain’s mind now were the dazzling starlights and the little girl.
With great excitement, Rain began to recount everything he had seen.
The girl’s composure that belied her age and the story of the starlight magic she had used.
The vast river of starlight that painted an extraordinary world beyond comprehension.
Lastly, he mentioned that she had a nameless master who was not of this world.
The elderly wizard, who had silently listened to Rain’s story, nodded and spoke up.
“Did you say it was a unique magic you had never seen before?”
“Yes!”
“A magic that couldn’t even be found in the tower’s library…”
“Yes!”
“To be honest, it’s hard to believe.”
Rain didn’t dispute his master’s words.
He himself wouldn’t have believed it if he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes.
“Rain, if what you say is true, then a new faction may arise within the tower.”
“Really?!”
“That just shows how unbelievable it sounds.”
“Ugh…”
The old wizard looked at his disciple.
With a sulking expression, Rain was anxiously fidgeting with the hem of his robe.
He must have been feeling resentful that his master didn’t believe him.
“Did you say this Seris girl is 13 years old?”
“Yes…”
“And not even a noble…”
“Yes…”
“Hmmm…”
The old wizard got up from his seat.
He didn’t fully trust his disciple’s words, but nonetheless, the information was valuable enough to move his old body.
A young mage overflowing with talent and lacking a background was a precious find that everyone would desire.
“Your junior might be coming into the tower.”
“R-really?!”
“Since I’ve just finished my duties at the tower, I thought I might go out for a while.”
The distance from the Mage Tower to the Port City took about three days by carriage.
Rain quickly packed his belongings to accompany his master.

After completing the request, I immediately booked an inn to relieve my exhaustion.
I washed my body in hot water and lay down on a soft bed to sleep.
The next morning, I had breakfast on the first floor of the inn.
With my bag slung over my shoulder, I headed towards the Adventurer’s Street.
I was there to process the Ice Horn skin and horn obtained from the Karum Mountain Range.
The first place I went was a large leather workshop.
“Welcome!”
As I stepped inside, a man greeted me.
With a small smile, he asked if I was looking for something.
I rummaged through my bag and pulled out the Ice Horn skin instead of replying.
“This is… the Ice Horn?”
“You guessed it right.”
“Being what I am…”
The man inspected the leather, sharing his opinions about its quality.
After inspecting it for a while, he recommended making a cloak.
“It’ll take a week to make, and the total fee is 2 gold. You can only pick it up yourself. Do you agree?”
“I’ll do it.”
I immediately handed him the 2 gold.
He nodded and took the leather towards the workshop’s inner area.
He seemed ready to process it right away.
Next, I needed to work on the Ice Horn’s horn.
I left the workshop and wandered the streets, wondering about the craftsman who could process this horn.
I didn’t ponder long as I found my answer on a sign posted in front of a blacksmith’s shop.
[Monster Horn and Bone Processing Available]
Without hesitation, I headed into the blacksmith shop.
The blacksmith shop was warm despite the cold winter.
The clang of metal striking metal echoed everywhere, filling the place with fiery heat.
I approached the blacksmith just like at the leather workshop and handed him the horn.
What I needed was a sword better than an ordinary iron sword.
The blacksmith examined the horn for a while and spoke about the time and cost for its creation.
The processing period would be 3 days, and the fee was 3 gold.
I rummaged through my pockets, feeling dismayed.
Had I spent my money without thinking? I had only 1 gold left in my pockets.
“Hmm… Sounds like you’re a little short on cash?”
“Yes…”
“Then how about this: to make a sword, only one horn is needed, so you can sell me the other one.”
“How much will you buy it for?”
“10 gold.”
10 gold for one Ice Horn? I was taken aback by the surprisingly high price.
But I didn’t show that surprise on my face.
The blacksmith looked at me as if he wouldn’t pay any more than that.
I nodded, hoping this man was a person of integrity.
Once the deal was sealed, the blacksmith handed me 7 gold along with a leather sword sheath, deducting the price.
The leather was soft and durable. It looked like quite the premium product.
The sheath could be adjusted to fit my waist or hung from my back.
“What is this…?”
“It’s a service.”
I promptly removed the sword I’d been tying at my back with rope.
Finally, I had a proper sword sheath.
Feeling delighted, a small smile crept across my face.
I adjusted the length of the sheath and put it on my back with the sword.
The soft sensation resting on my shoulder felt sturdy and reliable.
It was quite an impressive gift.
With all transactions completed, my finances became ample after selling the Ice Horn, and I exited the blacksmith shop heading back to the inn with ale and ham.
Drinking ale that had a bitter yet subtle fruity taste while munching on the large ham felt like a luxurious indulgence for a girl who had lived in a rural village her entire life.

On the third day since placing my crafting order, I went to the blacksmith shop to receive my new sword.
What was presented to me was a long, pristine white blade, held together by solid iron in the middle.
The simplistic cross guard without unnecessary embellishments was quite to my liking.
I took the sword in hand and swung it lightly as a test.
It was lighter than the iron sword I had been using, and the balance felt just right.
Overall, it was undoubtedly a far superior product compared to my previous iron sword.
“I ground the horn to sharpen the blade and fixed the iron in the middle to keep its center. How does it feel?”
“It feels great.”
The blacksmith seemed pleased with his creation, rattling off a stream of details without me even having to ask.
After enduring his lengthy explanations for a while, I was finally able to escape when a new customer appeared.
Stepping out of the blacksmith shop, I immediately made my way to the Adventurer’s Guild.
Having obtained a new weapon, I planned to take on a light mission to test its performance.
However, the atmosphere at the Adventurer’s Guild was chaotic.
Normally, adventurers would gather in pairs or threes, but now they were all seated together, looking serious and discussing something.
I passed by them and approached the receptionist.
“Excuse me.”
“Huh?”
The receptionist turned his head at my question.
After looking around, he spotted me down at the bottom and offered an awkward smile.
I stood on my tiptoes, leaning over the counter to ask him.
“Why are those people gathered?”
“Oh, the mayor has requested a large-scale monster subjugation.”
“A large-scale subjugation request…?”
“Why? Are you interested?”
Of course, I couldn’t possibly not be interested in such a thing.
I eagerly nodded.
“Hmmm… just to confirm, do you have a rank badge?”
I pulled out my Bronze Badge from my pocket at the receptionist’s question.
Upon seeing it, the receptionist appeared relieved.
He pulled out a paper from underneath the desk and said to me,
“The reward is 1 silver per monster. The duration of the subjugation will be about a week. The request date is four days from now.”
“Does the type of monster matter?”
“They said they would pay more for higher-grade specimens… but they didn’t provide detailed information, so I’m just advising 1 silver per monster.”
“Will everyone over there be participating?”
“There are more besides them. The mayor’s personal guards are also coming, you know.”
“Oh…”
“Are you going to register?”
“Yes.”
“Your name?”
“Seris.”
“Alright. Bronze rank, Swordsman occupation…”
After filling out the paperwork, the receptionist handed me a small wooden token.
It bore a special seal. He added that if I lost this seal, I wouldn’t be able to participate in the large-scale subjugation.
I placed the wooden token into my pocket and asked him a question that had been bothering me.
“By the way, why is there suddenly a call for monster subjugation?”
“Have you heard about monsters appearing in this area that haven’t been seen in some time?”
“Ah, yes.”
“If it were just one or two, we wouldn’t worry too much. But the frequency of their appearances has been increasing lately.”
The receptionist had much to say.
With the sudden influx of monsters, the existing species were being driven from their habitats and were even making it down to human villages, he elaborated at length.
In any case, that meant there was still time until the promised date.
Ignoring the chattering receptionist, I returned to the inn.
