Another World Reincarnation Chronicle

Chapter 17

Lycan shouted to attack the ogre.

In truth, his voice was barely audible. The ogre’s footsteps were simply too thunderous.

The slowly approaching giant naturally intimidated the adventurers.

At that moment, a torn chunk of meat dropped in front of the adventurers.

It was the remains of victims who had soared into the air from the ogre’s attack.

A gruesome sight. Arms and legs twisted askew, with upper and lower bodies separating and sprawling chaotically.

Seeing that, no adventurer could escape the realization of their impending doom.

“Guh, Gwaaah!”

Only then did I understand why the goblins were fleeing.

Adventurers started to turn and flee one by one.

They even abandoned their weapons, tossing aside their bags on their backs.

Their faces were pale, resembling those of the goblins.

“Stop! Don’t run away!”

Lycan screamed again like he was wailing.

Yet, no one paid heed to his voice.

What should I do? Should I run too?

“Grrr!”

In that instant, Lycan began to run.

In the opposite direction to where the goblins and adventurers were fleeing.

His crimson cloak fluttered, swirling up my vision.

Only then could I rise to my feet.

“Stand firm! Never retreat! If we capture it, there’s gold! I’ll give you 30 gold!”

Lycan charged towards the ogre while shouting.

The promise of an enormous reward began to halt the adventurers’ retreat.

They hesitated, weighing their lives against money.

Seeing that, Lycan shouted out again.

“50 gold!”

Before his voice even finished,

Lycan lunged at the ogre.

His movements were reminiscent of a wolf’s, with blue glints of light emanating from his sword, akin to hazy fangs.

Swoosh!

The knight’s sword struck the ogre’s thick arm.

And the knight had to pay the price immediately.

Bang!

A swift attack that was unexpected from such a massive figure.

A heavy punch slammed into Lycan.

When Lycan’s body collided with the ogre’s fist, a powerful gust of wind erupted.

White snow nearby flew into the air as Lycan was pushed back.

“Guhh…!”

His figure slid across the vast snowy field.

Unlike the other adventurers, he withstood the ogre’s blow.

Though his face turned pale and he stumbled as if about to fall at any moment, he did not drop his sword.

“Ugh, Aaaah!”

Just then, the adventurers charged forward.

Out of roughly three hundred adventurers, less than half were rushing ahead, yet the ogre, startled by this sudden counterattack, began to swing its fists wildly.

The place where the giant fists passed generated strong winds, effectively claiming the lives of the adventurers.

Even after witnessing the demise of others, the adventurers did not stop their assault.

Swords, axes, and numerous blades were swung chaotically.

As the ogre’s gaze was entirely focused on the adventurers, Lycan lunged again.

However, the ogre was keenly watching Lycan’s movements.

It knew well. Lycan’s attacks posed a far greater threat than those of other humans.

And at that moment, I realized this was the perfect opportunity.

The moment I realized, I moved. I hesitated for no long.

The leg that had been frozen in fear by the monster’s presence shot forward as the mana circle encircling my heart began to spin rapidly.

My small body moved with unparalleled speed.

As I dashed through the ranks of adventurers, the ogre’s massive figure loomed before me.

With my sword raised in the same running stance, the moonlight high above sparkled amidst faint starlight as I prepared to strike.

But the movement of mana did not end there.

The first mana circle, now spinning rapidly, quickly spread towards my arms and legs.

Beginning to bear the weak glimmer of starlight, the first mana circle started to take place of my muscles in my arms and legs.

Managing different types of mana simultaneously was an immensely challenging task.

I realized that the starlight gathering at the blade was dispersing.

If I delayed any longer, the mana I had gathered would scatter.

“Hyah!”

With a short shout, the moon encircled by starlight descended.

As the straight-line slash struck the ogre’s thigh, the thick hide split and flesh was pierced.

“Graaah!”

The ogre screamed, startled by sudden pain, and knelt.

And in that moment, Lycan’s attack began.

With one knee on the ground, the ogre’s upper body lowered.

Lycan’s blade flew towards the creature’s neck.

“Guh!”

Covered in the ogre’s blood, my body felt warm.

I twisted the sword deeply embedded in its thigh with all my might.

With each twist, flesh and muscle tore apart, ejecting crimson blood.

At that moment, the ogre began to move.

Even I, unable to retrieve my sword, had to hang on tightly to it, swaying back and forth.

The ogre, fighting Lycan, moved violently. Each action caused its muscles to bulge massively, the thigh muscles doing the same.

The greatly expanded muscles tightened around my sword, ensuring it could not escape.

“Guhhh…!”

The ogre paid me no heed, fixated on battling Lycan and the adventurers.

It swung nearby adventurers as weapons or picked up fallen logs to threaten others.

Whenever a log could no longer withstand its own weight, it would discard it and pick up another to throw.

Hanging on the ogre’s thigh, I glanced at Lycan’s expression.

His face was distorted, pouring sweat and blood.

His eyes still gleamed, yet I felt he might not be able to defeat the ogre.

I exhaled slowly and rapidly spun the second mana circle.

The raw mana, devoid of starlight, began to scatter a cold chill.

The cold winter breeze rushed inside me, sending cold blood spreading through my body.

Handling the pure, refined natural mana through the circle was an exceptionally dangerous endeavor.

My heartbeat began to slow, and my vision grew blurry.

I furrowed my brow as I concentrated the mana’s movement to one spot.

The cold chill began to surge.

As the form of the circle, wrapping around my heart, faded, the cold chill escaped through my arms.

The mana that burst forth swiftly made its way towards the sword.

Swoosh!

The mana released through the blade no longer obeyed my command.

The pure mana began to overflow uncontrollably.

The mana, exploding forth, froze everything nearby.

White frost spread outwards from the ogre’s thigh, encasing its leg in ice.

I expelled all remaining mana from my body.

Feeling the cold sensation wash over me, I fell to the ground.

“Graaah!”

It seemed my attack was not in vain.

As the ogre moved, startled by the pain, its right leg, now solidly frozen, shattered like ice.

Suddenly losing one leg, the ogre toppled over, unable to evade Lycan’s strike.

Crash!

Lycan’s decisive blow split the ogre’s head.

With that strike, a fountain of red blood erupted, drenching both Lycan and me.

“Gasp… Gasp…”

Lycan collapsed onto the ground, breathing heavily.

Perhaps it was due to the released tension.

“W-we won!”

“We won!”

The adventurers cheered at the sight of the fallen ogre.

No one thought of that clamor as annoying.

*

After the battle with the ogre, the adventurers’ demeanor had completely changed.

They would startle at my approach or words, casting wary glances.

And Lycan’s demeanor had shifted as well.

Late in the evening, I sat across from Lycan by a crackling campfire.

With a calm expression, he conveyed his gratitude.

“Thank you. Thanks to you, we could take down the ogre.”

I shook my head. While my assistance was significant, ultimately it was Lycan who defeated the ogre.

Without him, we could not have captured it.

“It was thanks to you, Lycan.”

“Oh, how humble.”

Without a word, I reached out my hand towards the campfire.

The place where the cold mana had surged still seemed to emit a chill.

“I will formally send my thanks through the mayor at my mage tower.”

“Oh, no need for that.”

“That’s not possible.”

“Hmm…”

I awkwardly averted my gaze, smiling at Lycan’s firm stance.

It seemed that all wizards in this world belonged to the mage tower.

Are there really no mages who operate freely?

I wanted to inquire about the wizards in this world, but I could only silence myself to avoid any misunderstandings.

Instead, I decided to ask about something else.

“Lycan, may I obtain the ogre’s skin?”

“The skin? Of course, I can also give you the tendons.”

Lycan transferred half of the materials obtainable from the ogre to me.

No adventurer questioned that decision.

Rain and her mentor arrived at the port city in a flurry on a carriage.

Rain had been inquiring about Seris’s whereabouts with her mentor.

A little girl carrying a sword drew attention wherever she went.

Let alone, her beauty was also remarkable.

Naturally, the townsfolk remembered Seris.

“Huuh…”

“Hah…”

Rain let out a sigh of despair alongside her mentor.

Despite their exhausting journey, the girl named Seris was no longer in this city.

According to rumors, she had left just a day ago, heading out with the monster subjugation team that had been summoned.

“I’m sorry…”

“There’s nothing we can do. We may have to wait in this city for her return.”

“Umm…”

Rain bowed her head with a dejected expression.

The delay was due to her, after all.

Could she have made a mistake while preparing the report?

Rain sighed deeply as she recalled her foolish blunder.

If only that little girl could return to this city before her mentor’s external activities concluded.

With a sigh, Rain muttered in a small voice.
