Chapter 172: Exciting News and Search
__________ POV Narration__________
The week flew by rather quickly, Nemuri did manage to come out of her shell eventually.
She had apologized a few times to Beru, who reassured her that she hadn't done anything too serious.
Things were looking up for their relationship though, as now Nemuri always had some idea of what Beru was up to all the time.
This day was bound to be interesting though, why? Well, it was started on a really odd note.
Beru got a call early in the morning, from a number he didn't really recognize all that well.
"Sup~" He decided to answer it, thinking that it was likely someone he knew and forgot he gave his number to.
"B-Beru! I'm glad you answered!" Beru tilted his head a bit when hearing that voice. It was certainly not one he didn't know about.
"Zuku~ What's up? Why'd you call me this early?" It had been a while since the green-haired teen had contacted Beru, the insectoid was obviously a bit confused about it.
"I'm just excited! I've already called so many people! Well, not everyone answered, but still..." Izuku's excited voice made Beru smile internally. 'Ah, youth... Wait... I'm also young! (sure thing Mr Midlife Crisis)'
"Umm~That's nice~ But what's got you to be this excited?~ You didn't really say that yet~" Beru's tone got an embarrassed chuckle out of Deku.
"Well... I might be becoming a father..." Beru just nodded for a second, then he snapped his head at his smartwatch.
"WHAT?!~ THE FUCK YOU MEAN?!!~" It had taken him a bit to process the information, but after finally understanding it, quite a few questions popped up in his mind.
Things like 'How the fuck is this kid becoming a father before me?', not that Beru ever explicitly tried to have a child in the past, but it was still a thought that irked him. Especially since he still considered Izuku to be the same child that he had trained in the past.
"W-well... Uraraka just told me this morning... She's-"
"Yeah~ I get it! She's obviously the one pregnant~BUT SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK?~ The two of you are like, barely 19, didn't All Might teach you how to wrap your tool?!~"
Deku sweated a bit when hearing Beru's words, he had expected some type of response, but this was certainly not it.
But more importantly...
"Why would All Might teach me about that...?" Genuine confusion filled Izuku's mind as Beru almost made a hole in the wall with his head.
"Cuz he's your mentor!~ Didn't he like~ Teach you everything there is to know about safety and whatever~" Izuku blinked a few times...
"Ummm... I'd prefer to never speak to my mentor about those matters..." Izuku's tone couldn't be more terrified.
"Oh yeah~ It's Toshi we're talking about~ He'd likely be asking you for advice now that I think about it~" Izuku just sighed at Beru's words.
"Since when by the way?~" Beru did eventually get back to the main subject though.
"Oh, we just found out this morning, but it should be at least two months apparently. She honestly just thought she was getting fatter or something... That doesn't seem to be the case now though."
Izuku seemed to be passionate when speaking about it, but Beru still felt quite a bit of stress coming from him.
"Welp~ The two of you are young~ But people have had kids at younger ages~ Besides~ The both of you are at least responsible people~" Beru did eventually also calm himself down.
'So what if he's got one on the way? Heh, you bet your ass the first time someone points out that my student has had a child before me I'll talk Nemuri into giving me one as well~ Not that I'd have to do much convincing~'
"T-Thank you! We're planning to throw a party to celebrate it soon, which is why I also started calling people."
"Don't worry~ I and Nemuri will be there~ I'll even accept being your best man because you're certainly getting married too~" Beru spoke with a strange excitement in his voice.
"Y-yeah..." Although the response was positive, Beru still felt quite a bit of nervousness from it.
"Heh~ Don't even think about postponing the wedding kid~ Uraraka's a nice gal, she'll make for a nice wife too~"
Beru's excitement still didn't seem to transfer all the way, Deku's response was just some silence.
"..." 'Of course I'm marrying her!... But I'd rather not have you as my best man...' Izuku's thoughts never got to be vocalized, either out of fear or because Beru rushed to end the call. (most likely fear)
Beru also told Nemuri about the matter before heading out to Yori's place.
She proceeded to do as expected of her, sealing loud enough to make the television in the living room tremble.
It was no surprise that by the time Beru flew towards Yori's laboratory, Izuku becoming a dad was already something that everyone within their group of friends knew about.
But Beru was already continuing on with his day.
He arrived at Yori's laboratory at a leisure pace, sometimes feeling the wind on his exoskeleton was calming to the insectoid, which was why he didn't just teleport to Yori's place.
"Beru... Glad to see you here." Yori greeted him at the entrance this time, seemingly waiting for him outside.
"Heh~ I did send you a message about dropping by today~ Didn't expect a welcoming though~" Beru's words did seem to annoy the scientist a bit.
"What's that supposed to mean? I always treat my guests properly!" He retorted to Beru, who just responded with a shrug and a head tilt.
"I do kinda remember you shooing off your guests whenever you want~ But I guess you do welcome them beforehand~"
"... Not my fault so many interesting people visit me all the time. I only have so much time in the day." Yori couldn't really refute Beru, as he did have a habit of telling his guests to leave the laboratory whenever he got bored or started working on serious matters.
"So~ What's this quirk you want me to see?~" Beru also started speaking on the matter at hand as the two of them walked deeper into the laboratory.
"Well, I haven't quite gotten my hand on it. I don't want to steal it. But I'll show you what I found, or rather, who I found." Beru tilted his head a bit as he walked into Yori's usual corner of the facility.
Well, the entire place was his, but he mainly used a small part of it personally. The rest was taken care of by his employees.
The two of them sat down at a table, as Yori took out some files for Beru to look through.
Instantly, Beru saw a familiar face.
A man with short grey hair worn parted to his right, along with a small moustache and a goatee on his chin, one of his front teeth seemed to be missing leaving a gap in his grin.
Beru tilted his head as he realised that he was looking at none other than Giran, a person he hadn't quite heard about in a long time.
"This person is a low profile criminal that was believed to have worked in the area you live in before. That's not horribly important, the interesting part is his quirk."
Beru wanted to say that he knew Giran, but the insectoid graciously decided on allowing Yori to finish explaining his idea before talking his ears off.
"His quirk, Muddiness is essentially capable of making a person forget the past five minutes of their lives... Not explicitly powerful nor impressive... But that's only when you have it by itself, combined with other quirks, we could start experimenting on different combinations."
Yori said that they'd be experimenting, but he seemed rather confident in his speech, meaning that he was at least certain that the quirk would be helpful in some way.
"The point is to erase the past few years from the minds of the Nomus, as we cannot truly repair their damaged minds. Making them forget is the next best thing."
"... I get where you're coming from~ I also know the guy~ He goes by Giran on the streets~ Don't really know his whereabouts, but I can always find out~ If I can't then Don will certainly be able to~"
Beru didn't shoot down the idea of Giran's quirk being useful. He hadn't thought about this solution since he hadn't really thought about Giran in any way since their last meeting.
"If you know him then that makes things easier. I'll leave actually finding his quirk up to you. I'm sure you can get it without much trouble." Yori said with a smile.
"Yeah~ It won't take that long~ But I'm kinda sceptical on what it can achieve~ But we can't really know without testing things, I guess~" Yori raised an eyebrow at Beru's distrust.
"Not to sound rude, but we don't exactly have much else to go off on. This either works, or we're back to the drawing board. But I do have a good feeling about it." Yori's smile at least made Beru sigh.
"I guess I'll have to trust your guts on this one~," Beru said as he got up and purplish mist started swallowing his body.
Just like that, Beru was off to meet an old friend... Well, he was off to find him.
