Chapter 94: Chapter 93: The Opportunistic Liu Sisi
Hu Yuting stood beside Ye Zian, diligently applying buffs while feeling quite pleased with herself.
Her reasoning was simple: rather than recruiting ordinary team members who had no position and could potentially threaten her status as head maid in the future, it was better to bring in these high-ranking group leaders directly.
Hehe, I'm such a little genius.
The scene in the loft was extravagant, forming a stark contrast to the apocalyptic environment outside the fortress.
Ye Zian lounged by the edge of the bath, with Lin Qiaoqiao feeding him fine wine and Bai Mengmeng offering grapes. The fatigue from today's battle eased significantly under their care.
Yet, Ye Zian couldn't let himself be complacent. Seeing that it was still early, he decided to visit the residences of other core team members, intending to record Liu Qinghuan's ability, **Ice and Fire Sorceress**.
Today, Ye Zian had discovered that Liu Qinghuan's ability was particularly effective against resilient, tough-skinned giants like the Mother-Zombie. The flames not only continuously burned the zombies but also significantly slowed the Mother-Zombie's movements. Moreover, her ability was a large-area dual-attribute power.
The busy day continued until midnight, when Ye Zian returned to Zhao Wanrong's new residence—a villa on the fifth floor of the first level of the Tower of Heaven—where he held Zhao Wanrong in his arms and fell asleep.
---
In the Liu Family Garden of the Xiacheng villa district, a group of men in white lab coats found themselves surrounded by a horde of mutated zombies. The grotesque creatures howled hungrily, their mouths gaping wide, yet they seemed inexplicably restrained, preventing them from tearing into the researchers.
Taro Honda trembled as he surveyed the monstrous zombies surrounding him, too terrified to resist, fearing he would be devoured alive.
His brother, Jiro Honda, and Takeda-kun had gone missing for days, having taken a substantial number of ability users dispatched by the Empire with them. This made the timid Taro Honda feel increasingly uneasy.
Although the two were unaware of their exact location, cautious Taro Honda had to take the risk of leading the team to relocate to the rumored haunted Liu Family villa, only to discover a large number of mutated zombies there.
Liu Sisi, clad in a white dress reminiscent of her pre-apocalypse style, sat in the central seat, one hand propped on the armrest as she lazily observed a few vials of bright red liquid in her other hand.
The energy within the blood made it hard for her to resist. After struggling internally for a long time, she ultimately decided to put the vials away.
With a nonchalant demeanor, she asked, "Do you have anything else to say?"
Taro Honda looked at Liu Sisi, who, aside from the pair of goat horns protruding from her forehead, appeared human in every other respect. It was evident she was the leader of the mutated zombies.
He quickly shook his head, his voice trembling, "I've said everything I need to say. I truly don't know anything else."
Liu Sisi continued to lounge in her chair, lazily pointing at a nearby researcher with her finger.
From among the mutated zombies stepped a massive, gaping-mouthed creature, its jaw unhinging to an alarming degree. It enveloped the unfortunate researcher's head, and with a horrific scream, it drained the man's brain, chewing the remains with a horrifying crunch.
The surrounding zombies greedily eyed the corpse on the ground, while the researchers from the Eastern Empire were terrified, some crying out in fear.
Through the giant zombie's consumption of the researcher's memories, Liu Sisi confirmed that Taro Honda was not lying. However, from the memories of the consumed researcher, she inadvertently discovered Ye Zian's whereabouts, including the newly constructed fortress in the outskirts of Xiacheng, as well as the origins of the two types of potions.
Yukio Takeda and Jiro Honda had gone there to confront Ye Zian.
Liu Sisi mused seductively to herself, "So you've fled there, my dear fiancé."
With that, Liu Sisi stood up from her seat and walked into the inner quarters of the villa.
The humans from the Eastern Empire had lost their usefulness to her, and as Liu Sisi departed, the restraints on the zombies were lifted. Their bloodthirsty instincts returned as they rushed to tear the researchers into pieces.
A gruesome feast took place in the Liu Family Hall, with screams echoing throughout the courtyard.
Nearby survivors who inadvertently passed this way were terrified by the horrific sounds and fled, further confirming the rumors of hauntings at the Liu Family villa.
Liu Sisi entered the inner chamber and gazed at the thousands of so-called awakening potions, feeling a surge of power within her.
What a delightful surprise.
To ordinary humans, these potions had only a one percent chance of success for awakening; however, for zombies, the blood of the Zombie Queen contained a 99% success rate for mutation. With these potions, it wouldn't be long before she could create an army of thousands of mutated zombies. Her psychic energy focused on Ye Zian's fortress, watching it intently.
Murmuring to herself, she said, "I look forward to our next meeting."
With that, she turned and returned to her bedroom.
---
The next morning, Lin Qianqian and Liu Qinghuan waited early in front of the villa for Ye Zian. Other team members stood in lines on both sides of the city gate, sending off their City Lord and his companions.
Zhao Wanrong, resembling a devoted wife, adjusted Ye Zian's tactical armor.
Ye Zian remarked, "Sister Wanrong, the task for the next few days is still to clear out the zombies in the suburbs, but we can move the fortress closer to the Xiacheng Bridge."
The Xiacheng Bridge was only 10 kilometers from the Xiacheng base. If anything were to happen at the base, the fortress could arrive within half an hour at its current speed.
"Yes, I understand. Also, you..."
Ye Zian's lips curled into a mischievous smile as he confidently replied, "Sister Wanrong, you know my strength well, don't you?"
Seeing Ye Zian's expression reminded Zhao Wanrong of last night's events, causing her previously fair cheeks to flush slightly. She replied with mock annoyance, "I trust your strength; I just want to remind you to exercise some restraint."
The tales of Ye Zian's exploits from last night had spread throughout the fortress this morning, and some team members were eyeing him with less than pure intentions.
"Ahem, I'll do my best."
With that, Ye Zian, along with Lin Qianqian and Liu Qinghuan, boarded a Humvee and set off toward the Xiacheng base as described in the book.
The Xiacheng base was located on a small hill in the city center, precisely in the area where the Ye family resided. In the second month of the apocalypse, thousands of survivors had gathered there, successfully establishing the Xiacheng base based on the advantageous geographical position and the large food storage facilities available before the apocalypse.
