Chapter 11: Everyone Has Their Own Plans
Caitlyn, being an enforcer from the upper city, had only received combat training designed to control criminals. What she didn't know was that in the lower city, those who live on the edge of life and death understand that as long as they can still breathe, they can fight back fiercely.
There is indeed a method of dislocating your wrist to escape handcuffs, but Jinx didn't know it. Instead, she had outright broken her own wrist in the previous fight and now couldn't fix it, forcing her to wield her gun with one hand. In the recent battle, although Jinx appeared ruthless and decisive, it was actually her first time fighting for her life. Previously, Vi and Justin had always protected her well. Is it a natural talent? Looking at the crimson blood on the floor, Jinx couldn't help but smile, feeling an indescribable pleasure. Her heart raced, pupils dilated, breathing quickened, and she seemed to have endless energy, like she had just inhaled shimmer. Ah, no, no, Justin said that good children shouldn't touch such things. Thinking of this, Jinx patted her face and calmed down a bit. What should she do next? Escape? No... She wants to blow up the whole place!
"Tap, tap, tap." The sound of boots hitting the ground echoed in the corridor. "Are the prisoners locked up? Well done, Caitlyn, you should head back and rest early." Tomorrow, Caitlyn would inevitably face questioning from the council, and Musk's attitude towards her was naturally different, given that her mother was one of the seven councilors.
Wait! Musk turned his head to find not Caitlyn, but the crazy criminal! Instinctively, he reached for his waist to draw his gun, only to find nothing. Damn it, he had put his gun down!
"Bang!" Even with one hand, Jinx precisely shot Musk's gun, which was lying on the table. The handgun spun away to a distance, and as Musk tried to pounce to retrieve it, instead...
"Bang!" A shot to cripple the left hand. "Bang!" A shot to cripple the right hand. "Bang!" Left leg; "Bang!" Right leg.
This wasn't merely a cat-and-mouse game; Jinx intended to incapacitate the chief and capture him as a hostage—or perhaps bait. "Let me see, is there any part of you that can still move?" Jinx aimed at Musk's head and then... "Bang!" The sound didn't come from the gun barrel; it was just Jinx making sound effects, but it still made Musk shudder.
"Hahahahahaha!" Jinx clutched her stomach and laughed heartily. She had always loved pranks, and without Justin to restrain her, she was completely unrestrained.
"What do you want?" Despite having all his limbs disabled and being humiliated, Musk still maintained the composure of a chief, trying to negotiate verbally. "If you want to escape—head left after exiting the door, there's a parking lot with police cars, the keys are hooked to my belt, and there are no enforcers outside."
"Escape? I won't escape. Escaping is something Justin should consider. Let me see him, or I'll turn your brains into fried rice!"
"Justin? I don't know who he is. A criminal from the lower city? They've already broken out!" Musk said, trying to move with his elbow, only to have his shoulder shot through mercilessly by Jinx.
"Don't lie to me! Do you want to end up like a sieve?"
"Don't worry, that kid is smart. It won't be easy for the enforcers to catch him. Who knows, maybe he's holding an officer at gunpoint for questioning right now." Justin's guess was spot-on, though he never imagined it would happen right in the police station.
"You should have watched over her better!" Vi punched the wall, causing a quake-like noise that startled Isaac nearby.
"Damn, I can't split myself in two: one half to stay with her and the other to break you out of prison!"
"Then just leave me alone!"
"Um..." Isaac raised his hand weakly, his delicate face full of fear. He had been tormented enough by Jinx earlier, and now Justin brought back another lunatic? Is this his type?
"And who might this lady be?"
"Isaac, are you blind? I'm Vi."
"Ah, it's been a long time, Vi. You've changed quite a bit..." Isaac's face twitched, thinking of how Vander had raised such characters. If he knew from the grave, he definitely wouldn't rest in peace.
"I don't have time for reunions now—Isaac, is the old lady still in the intelligence business? I need her to conduct an investigation."
"There's no time," Justin decisively denied. "If Jinx hasn't caused any trouble, the old lady won't find her. If something does happen, by the time we get the information, the body would be cold..."
Even though Justin didn't specify whose body, even a one-in-a-thousand chance of it being her was unacceptable for the two of them.
"Vi, let's head straight to the upper city." Justin began gearing up. "We've already breached Stillwater Hold, and any real conflict will only occur in the upper city. Isaac, I need you to stay put for a bit. If Jinx comes back, explain things to her and don't let her go elsewhere."
"What? Can't I just go back?" Isaac sulked. "I've gone all day without skincare; my skin is so dry."
"Bear with it for a while longer," Justin said, pressing his shoulder. "For my sake..."
"Alright, since you're our little darling," Isaac pouted. "Remember to bring me back a mask when you return."
"Don't worry, I'll snag an entire cosmetics store for you."
