Aria Of The Cursed Dragon

Chapter 8: 8. The Aria V

" Oyy! Sieg what are you doing! Come here and start heating up the metals !" A rough voice echoed inside the smithy as a young boy with silver hair ran over hearing the shout.

He didn't say anything and sat at his usual place and started heating up the metal in a practised motion as if he had done it many times.

His foster father Regin was a stringent man but Siegfried knew he was doing it for his own good as smithing was a field where you needed countless years of experience to become a master craftsman.

So making him get used to it from a young age would help him immensely in the future, but he wasn't satisfied with just being a blacksmith as he had to regain his father's honour who was betrayed and killed unjustly.

But that was all for the future, but Sieg had a clear vision of his future....

...

Siegfried was lying on the soft grass as he gazed at the clear blue sky with his buddy Grani alongside him. Grani neighed softly and nuzzled against his face causing him to smile a little.

Siegfried didn't have many friends and due to his goals he was inherently different from other children causing difficulties in forming bonds as he was far too mature.

He was currently deep in thought and questioning his resolve, wondering whether he had what it took to achieve what he had been pining for all his life.

He had already forged Gram from the broken shards of the original and he was already old enough to join the army. Thus it was time for him to avenge his father...

.....

He finally did it, he had restored honour to his father's name by avenging him.

He had joined the war against the King of Hunding and defeated his army along with the ones who joined him.

He became a man of military valour a hero of the kingdom for his outstanding performance in the war.

Things should have gotten better and his life should have become better but fate had other plans for him.

His foster father had approached him and told him about the evil dragon Fafnir, hoping he would put an end to it.

Siegfried didn't feel anything wrong with it, as Fafnir was an evil dragon and it had been terrorising villages and towns near its lair and his sense of justice wouldn't allow him to just stand by and watch Innocents suffer.

Thus the decision wasn't a difficult one for him to make, thus he along with his foster father Regin set out on the quest to slay the dragon...

....

" Damn It! " Siegfried roared as he smashed his head against a boulder causing blood to pour out from his head, but he wasn't in the right mindset to care about it.

Tears were flowing down his face as he banged his head on the rock while muttering 'Why, Why, Why...' continuously like a broken record.

It was supposed to end in glory and pride but he didn't feel any of that.

How was he supposed to feel happy about the fact that the man he had looked up to all his life was killed by his own hands.

How was he supposed to come to terms with the truth that his 'Father' never once cared about him and in his eyes, he was nothing more than a tool.

A tool he raised with the sole purpose of slaying Fafnir so he could take its treasure.

If it was the treasure he wanted then couldn't he have just asked, he would have gladly given it to him.

Why did he have to go so far as to try to kill him, Did all those years together mean nothing to him?

In his heart, Siegfried respected the man like his own biological father and was one of the most important people in his life.

Thus the betrayal stung, and his heart felt like it was being squeezed into a vice grip, the moment he felt that slash on his back was the moment something inside him died, he didn't believe it but when he turned back to gaze at the culprit, he was met with the sickening grin of the man he called father.

He could see it in those eyes, there was no reluctance, no pity no sadness and not a single caring emotion, all he saw was greed, excitement and happiness.

He felt betrayed and lost, but it hurt even more when he swung the axe at his head to chop it off with a peal of boisterous laughter, Siegfried didn't know what happened but something inside him snapped and when he came back to it only the mangled corpse of Regen remained, butchered beyond recognition.

Sieg rested his bloodied forehead against the cracked rock's surface as his eyes were devoid of light, gone was the usual vigour and brightness, now they just looked dull.

He gazed at the mangled corpse of his 'Father' with his dull eyes and took slow and mechanical steps towards it.

Siegfried started digging a hole near the corpse with his hands as his gaze remained calm like a stagnant pool with zero ripples of emotion....

...

Siegfried buried Regin with his own hands as he felt that was his last act of respect to the man. Siegfried wanted to leave this place but he felt as if something was calling to him.

So as if possessed his body started moving towards the dragon's corpse.....
