Ascending the National Fortune: I Bring Technology from the Future

Chapter 18 - Substitution

Chapter 18: Substitution

With Fang Jian’s solemn assurance once again, Zhang Liang finally felt relieved and left. Having grown up together since childhood, Zhang Liang knew that his good friend was not someone who would make empty promises. However, he couldn’t help but feel a little uneasy until the goods arrived at the port. Fang Jian didn’t have time to worry about such things. He immediately dialed Babuli’s phone.

“Hey, old friend, thank you,” Fang Jian said directly. “There’s one more thing I need to trouble you with.”

Babuli laughed and replied, “If there’s business coming my way, I should be the one thanking you.”

“Great. Do you remember the last 5,000 tons of cement?” Fang Jian asked.

“Of course I do. That was the first time I received such a strange order,” Babuli laughed heartily and said, “The cement has already been loaded onto the ship and is on its way to your country.”

“Excellent, then please bring an additional 5,000 tons,” Fang Jian said, with a hint of trouble in his voice.

“What?” Babuli was shocked. He exclaimed, “Another… 5,000 tons?”

“Yes, full payment, including the shipping costs, and your commission will not be reduced,” Fang Jian replied with a smile. “The requirements are the same as last time: shipping containers, and individual bags. Also, it must be fast… within two months at most.”

Babuli raised his shoulders, realizing that Fang Jian couldn’t see him. He sighed and said, “Alright, as long as my commission is not reduced, I’ll arrange it.”

After hanging up the phone, Babuli also felt apprehensive. However, no matter how much he thought about it, he couldn’t figure it out. He still picked up the phone and called a previous client in exchange for those green US dollars.

It had to be done when it came to business, no matter how absurd the deal seemed. As long as the money was sufficient, any problem could become a non-issue. Three days later, another cargo ship of tens of thousands of tons set sail from the port.

Fortunately, it was the off-season for container shipping. And the amount of money Fang Jian provided was more than enough! That crucial factor allowed the containers to be shipped out so quickly. Of course, this time, after the port staff in Abidjan saw the customs declaration, they were not as diligent and careful as before. Although there were still inspections, they only delayed it for a day before releasing it.

It was all cement, so what was there to check?

And so, Fang Jian spent over a month idling at home. The happiest person during this month was Fang Yiyi, the little girl. She was even closer to her big brother than her parents, which made Fang Biao feel a bit uneasy.

On this day, Fang Jian calculated the time and realized that the first cargo ship carrying 5,000 tons of cement was about to arrive at the port. Fang Jian informed his parents and then rented a boat, taking the initiative to go and meet the ship.

Generally, strangers were not allowed on board container ships during the journey, except for local maritime police. However, Fang Jian, the owner of this cargo and with the port just one day away, had no trouble getting permission from the container ship’s captain.

The ship was a 10,000-ton vessel owned by DELMAS company, and their headquarters wouldn’t risk offending a client over such a small matter. After all, competition among major shipping companies was fierce, and maintaining a good reputation was difficult.

With the help of modern equipment, Fang Jian successfully boarded the ship one day in advance. He thanked the captain and crew and gave them a generous cash tip that satisfied everyone. As a result, there was no place on the entire ship that he couldn’t access.

In the evening, Fang Jian stood alone on the deck, looking at the numerous stacked containers. With a thought in his mind, the Spatial House appeared, enveloping the containers.

Soon, Fang Jian found himself inside one of the containers, filled with bags of cement. Babuli had indeed handled things reliably; the cement was exactly as promised.

Fang Jian removed the warehouse voucher filled with chromium powder and stuck it to his forehead. Quickly, the bags of cement disappeared, replaced by bags of chromium powder. Moreover, the packaging for these bags of chromium powder was just ordinary woven bags, without any high-tech features.

Fang Jian had already made this point clear before the transaction took place. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the authenticity of the goods. The composition and appearance were both flawless and perfect, without any discrepancies.

It would be impossible to detect the difference if modern people had the technology of a black flashlight. Early the next morning, the cargo ship finally arrived at the port. Fang Jian took the initiative to oversee the handover and submitted the prepared customs import declaration for the goods.

However, he felt somewhat strange about the process. His customs declaration was processed at the fastest speed, and even the cargo unloading order was expedited. Fang Jian vaguely understood the reason behind it. He took out his phone and called Zhang Liang.

“Zhang Liang, the first batch of goods has arrived at the port. Send someone to pick them up as soon as possible!”
