Chapter 50: Chapter 50: The Golden Seal and the March on Skull Island
Within the City of Death.
Zhang Yue and Su Jinyan were grinding through level 27 Skeletal Shieldbearers as a team.
After each Shieldbearer kill, Zhang Yue would take out the Skull Island Seal and attempt to refine it. The refinement could only be done a maximum of ten times per kill, and the attempts didn't stack.
Before they knew it, the time crept up to 11:50 PM.
Only ten minutes remained before the Reaper Ceaser would descend.
Su Jinyan didn't have the Demon's Heart buff, so she had to use a town portal scroll to return to the Holy Light Cemetery and hide in a tomb to avoid the Reaper's attack.
During that time, Zhang Yue stopped fighting skeletons, too. If he got attacked and wasn't at full health, the Demon's Heart effect would be nullified, and Ceaser would kill him on the spot.
Zhang Yue found a safe spot and waited patiently until 12:10 AM, after the Reaper's invasion ended and withdrew.
Ten minutes later, Su Jinyan returned to the City of Death, and the two resumed their hunt for Skeletal Shieldbearers.
By the time they had killed 300 of them, Zhang Yue had tried refining the seal thousands of times but still hadn't managed to produce the Golden Seal.
So they moved on to hunting level 28 Skeletal Mages.
The Skeletal Mages had ridiculously high magic damage and could use blink skills, making them extremely difficult to pin down.
Even Su Jinyan struggled to keep up, frequently missing her skills and failing to control the elusive Mages.
It wasn't a matter of reaction time or skill, though—the level gap was just too wide, and even Su Jinyan couldn't keep up her hand speed.
On top of that, she constantly had to be mindful of her positioning to avoid being one-shot by a Mage.
Because of this, the battles with Skeletal Mages were far more challenging than those with the Shieldbearers.
But they still managed.
4:00 AM.
By this time, they had only killed a little over a hundred Skeletal Mages.
For each kill, Zhang Yue got ten more chances to refine the seal. Even after another thousand attempts, he still hadn't turned the ordinary seal into a Golden Seal.
At this point, a sleepy Su Jinyan yawned and stretched, her lithe body highlighted by the thin, purple robe she wore, which appeared almost translucent in the moonlight.
From where Zhang Yue was standing, he couldn't help but notice her graceful figure, outlined clearly under the soft glow.
As a healthy, young man, Zhang Yue's throat involuntarily tightened.
Su Jinyan caught him staring and, with a playful smile, teased, "Like what you see?"
Embarrassed, Zhang Yue quickly turned his face away.
"If you're tired, you should log off and get some rest," he said awkwardly.
He was starting to doubt whether they could refine the Golden Seal tonight.
Su Jinyan, however, wasn't having it. "And leave you here all alone? That's way too boring for you."
"I'll keep you company."
And so, the two of them continued their hunt for Skeletal Mages.
The chances of refining a Golden Seal were incredibly low.
Even though Zhang Yue had almost unlimited alien energy, the process was painfully slow due to the restriction of only gaining ten chances per monster kill.
Zhang Yue started thinking, 'Maybe tonight just isn't the night for refining the Golden Seal.'
But then, just as dawn was about to break, success came unexpectedly.
[Ding! Congratulations, you've refined the Golden Seal (Exclusive to Skull Island Dungeon). Please use the Golden Seal to upgrade the Skull Island Dungeon within 2 hours. If not used within the time limit, the Golden Seal will disappear]
Staring at the seal in his hand, which had changed from gray to gold, Zhang Yue let out a sigh of relief.
By all odds, the chance of refining a Golden Seal was less than one in ten thousand.
The last time he attempted it with the Dark Corpse Nest, it had taken him over 11,000 tries to succeed.
This time, however, he'd managed to do it in under 3,000 tries.
Su Jinyan, standing beside him, was just as excited when she saw the golden glow of the seal in his hand. "Wow, you actually did it."
"You've got so much energy. You're really willing to burn through it all on refining that seal." Su Jinyan knew Zhang Yue had a lot of energy but had no idea just how much.
"The Golden Seal only lasts for 2 hours," Zhang Yue said as he examined the seal. "Let's go clear the dungeon now."
"Right. Let's get those level 25 dungeon rewards." Su Jinyan's sleepiness vanished in an instant at the thought.
They both put their skeleton hunting on hold and left the City of Death.
Arriving at the entrance to the Skull Island dungeon, Zhang Yue immediately activated the Golden Seal.
[Area Announcement] (Holy Light Cemetery):
[Ding! Attention all Holy Light Cemetery players: Player [] (hidden) has used the Golden Seal to upgrade the Skull Island Dungeon from a regular dungeon to a hidden dungeon. The hidden dungeon will remain open for 1 hour. All players are encouraged to challenge the hidden dungeon]
As the system message went out, the enormous, seven or eight-meter-high vortex behind the NPC wizard, Laurie, on the shoreline shifted from purple to a gleaming gold.
Without hesitation, Zhang Yue and Su Jinyan stepped into the vortex.

At the same time, elsewhere.
It was now 6:00 AM, and Chen Jun had just logged in at the Holy Light Cemetery when he heard the system announcement about Skull Island being upgraded to a hidden dungeon.
Excited, he exclaimed, "Waking up to free loot? Hell yeah, this is awesome."
However, his advisor, the level 20 Assassin Wu Zui, who clearly had more brains than Chen Jun, was worried. "Chen, your resurrection scroll cooldown isn't over yet. What if someone uses a Golden Seal to lock us out of the dungeon again…?"
"There's no way it's Zhang Yue this time, that trash," Chen Jun scoffed dismissively. "The guy can't even step foot outside the cemetery's safe zone anymore."
He snorted, full of confidence. "Besides, this time I've got the Killer Mercenary Group on my side. We'll easily take the first clear of Skull Island."
With that, Chen Jun sent a message to KillerPei via in-game chat: "Get all your level 25 guys over here. We're hitting Skull Island."
But when Chen Jun arrived at the Skull Island dungeon, backed by a group of fully-geared level 25 mercenaries and some members of the Rain Pavilion Guild, he was stunned to discover that the dungeon entrance was already closed.
"Damn it. What the hell." Chen Jun raged, seething. "Someone locked us out with the Golden Seal?"
"Let's see which idiot has the guts to steal the first-clear reward right under my nose."
"Stand guard at the exit." Chen Jun barked orders at his men. "The moment they come out, we'll kill them and loot their drops."
With his command, members of the Rain Pavilion and the Killer Mercenary Group set up a blockade outside the dungeon entrance.
Meanwhile, inside the Skull Island Dungeon.
Zhang Yue and Su Jinyan automatically received their dungeon quest:
[Kill 40 Skeletal Warriors and defeat the dungeon boss, Skeleton General Hela]
Starting from the island's shoreline, the two of them moved toward the center of the island, taking out the level 25 Skeletal Warriors that spawned along the way.
Having already fought level 28 Skeletal Mages, the two of them had no trouble at all with these weaker level 25 skeletons.
With Su Jinyan's Silver-armored Scorpion leading the charge, Su Jinyan controlling the mobs, and Zhang Yue dishing out damage, they quickly cleared out 40 Skeletal Warriors.
When they reached the center of Skull Island, they found a group of a dozen Skeletal Warriors kneeling on the ground.
In front of them, atop a Skeletal Warhorse, sat a skeletal figure clad in armor, with a commanding presence fitting of a general.
Above its head was a blood-red ID:
[Skeleton General Hela] (Lv27 Physical-type Lord Monster)
"Let's take care of those small fries first."
"No problem!"
With that, Zhang Yue and Su Jin raised their staffs simultaneously, preparing for battle.
At that moment, Skeleton General Hela lifted its head and noticed Zhang Yue and Su Jinyan.
It raised its lance, pointing it directly at them, letting out a bone-chilling roar.
In response, the dozen kneeling Skeletal Warriors sprang into action, drawing their massive blades and charging straight at Zhang Yue and Su Jinyan.
