chapter 10
10 – Reasons to be strong
During the week, I’m getting used to the academy.
If it is short, if it is short, if it is long, there have been many changes in human relationships over a long period of time.
First of all, I got to know Pareon, who I had a sparring with, to the extent that we called each other by name, and sometimes we ended up sword-to-sword.
Secondly, among the cadets in Class E, there are many guys who are quite friendly with me.
Of course, there are still some unsightly guys who talk about being a commoner.
However, there were more classmates who talked to me first, so I no longer felt lonely in class.
“Bell. Let’s go eat lunch.”
And the biggest change in that human relationship would be the relationship with this guy.
Aden Feltner.
This is the main character of the original story.
In order to investigate how Aden came to class E and the details of her story, I approached him intentionally.
Fortunately, just like in the original work, he was outwardly sociable and bright, so I was able to get close to him quickly without questioning me too much.
Now it has developed to the level where we go to have lunch together like today and kick a ball together when we are bored.
To be honest, the smile on his lips all year round is burdensome, but since he was a fool who used to hear the sound of Hogu in the original work, I decided to move on.
“Yes. What do you want to eat?”
“I heard that Tina wants to choose together? Do you have any pulls?”
Pulling.
Anyway, for those of us who are in Class E, we don’t have that much money to maintain our livelihood, so the menus we can eat are limited.
At most, it would be the E course of the day menu in the school cafeteria or the cheapest single meal.
Especially in the case of the former, the name of the menu is also E course, so from the point of view of E class, it is a menu that turns the stomach over.
Should I say it’s as if they’re mocking, saying, ‘This is the only thing you guys can eat’.
Anyway, I don’t have anything that comes to mind.
At times like this, it’s best to pass it on to someone who isn’t there.
“Not at all. You can leave the guns to Tina.”
“You can do that.”
Aden also agreed with me, wondering if there was any particular food he wanted to eat.
After that, we were talking moderately without any proper topic, until Tina waved her hand and entered the back door of the classroom.
“I’m here. Have you decided what to eat for lunch?”
“I was waiting for you to settle it?”
“Eh. So, have the two of you been chatting all this time? Are you thinking of leaving the most difficult thing to me?”
As the two of us nodded, Tina’s face crumpled up like the face of spilled slime.
“It was really bad…. Uh, then shall we go to the cafeteria first?”
“Is it the cafeteria again? I am so fed up.”
“Chi, then you two choose!”
I secretly muttered something to myself in order to make fun of it, and steam came over Tina’s head.
Oh, if you put a potato on it, it will steam well.
The more I look at it, the more amazing it is. Maybe that’s the realm of magic.
Talking about being fed up was just a joke, so we headed to the cafeteria at Tina’s suggestion.
Anyway, the quality of the food is pretty good, and the price is cheap, so this is the only place we’d like to go to.
“Today’s menu E course.”
“Yes. Can you wait a moment?”
The three of us chose the same menu as if we had decided in advance, received our food, and moved on.
It doesn’t matter if you eat outside as long as it doesn’t disturb the surroundings, but it’s troublesome to bring it there, so I find a seat in a suitable place and sit down.
The moment they ate their portion of the soup with a spoon, savoring the taste in moderation.
Tina, a source, banged her table noisily and spoke like a newspaper of the day.
“Did you guys hear that story? Class A to Class C will go on an outside exploration soon after?”
“Outside, what kind of outside?”
Aden, who was next to me, stopped tearing and eating the bread and expressed a question.
“Class C has been confirmed to go to the Wizard’s Forest in three weeks, but the other two classes are still undecided.”
Flinch.
When the main background of the incident that I am most closely watching at the moment came out, I stopped my hands without realizing it.
I wonder if I listened to it for some reason even though I was expecting it.
Aden, who was continuing her meal with me, expressed her interest by wriggling her eyebrows at the unexpected word.
“Wizard’s Forest? Wasn’t that a bit dangerous there?”
“Is that so? As far as I know, this is where the spirits come from.”
Exactly as Tina said.
Called the forest of the Wizard or the Forest of Spirit, it is a place where the position is not permitted without the accompanying or permission of the faculty members even within this academy site.
First of all, this forest retains its natural state almost as it was hundreds of years ago.
That’s why it means that it’s a tropical rain forest-like place where not only medicinal plants but also many kinds of poisonous plants live.
And since it is a place where nature has been preserved, it is also the main habitat of spirits.
These spirits are quite hostile to intruders, and are disembodied creatures.
Usually, it is said that magic of 4 star or higher is required to damage the body of the spirit body, but the level of freshmen who have just entered the academy is usually limited to 3 star.
At least among the talented people in Class A, there may be wizards who can even scratch the surface of the 4 stars with a catalyst, but in Class C there is no one like that.
In the original work, Lorne is also at a level where she can only use 3 star magic at this time, so she has to suffer in many ways.
And it goes without saying that physical attacks don’t work, so it’s also the biggest hindrance in the three-day exploration of the Wizard’s Forest.
‘But that’s not a big deal.’
However, in the investigation of the Wizard’s Forest, the spirits are actually not as big of a hindrance as you might think.
This is because lower-level spirits cannot recklessly approach it due to the self-defense tool called ‘Spirit King’s Hand’, which is basically given to cadets.
Of course, this doesn’t work for the mid-level spirits who protect the ‘Blessing of Astesia’, the target of the search, but it can be solved with a diversionary operation somehow.
The problem is that at this time, the follower who first appears in the work, a guy named ‘Barter’, forcibly evolves some of the spirits in the forest into intermediate level spirits, and then attacks the cadets.
In the process, the main content of the Wizard’s Forest episode is that Aden and Lorne confront Barter himself and try to stop this evil act.
“Bell. Does your complexion look bad?”
Aden tapped me on the shoulder as I was thinking.
When I remembered what was going to happen in the future, my face seemed to harden without my knowledge.
In my heart, I thought, ‘It’s because of you that things got messed up. This is this baby. ‘
If only this kid went to Class C, there wouldn’t be any need to worry about the Wizard’s Forest incident.
I let out a small sigh as if I was breathing, and tried to smile.
What is the point of venting your anger on this child?
What I have to do now is to solve the Wizard’s Forest incident and find a way to save Lorne.
“Just. It doesn’t taste like rice.”
“If you are going to leave it, can I eat it?”
“Are you a dog?”
At this time, I quickly dismissed Tina, who wanted to ask, and continued to cut the spoon.
She’s from the countryside like me, so Tina doesn’t seem to mind eating the leftovers of her friends.
Actually, I don’t really care about her too much, but she’s uncomfortable with passing on what she ate to her girl, so I decided to start with the soup in front of her.
“Hurtle.”
Even while continuing to eat as if possessed, her mind was busy finding a way to solve the Wizard’s Forest incident.
Fortunately, I had a plan in mind for me, a member of Class E, to participate in Class C’s exploration of the Wizard’s Forest.
However, the problem is that even if he intervenes in the episode, it is useless if he cannot stop Barter himself.
Barter’s skills are so strong that Aden managed to defeat him only after unlocking his power.
Of course, even he is like a brat among his followers, but at this point, it means that he is a strong man far above Elisha.
Although she may not be able to defeat that guy, I don’t have enough of her skills to run away from her at least her two-armed plan.
In other words, it is not an ordinary class, but a means to become stronger in a short period of time.
To do that, you’ll need a worthy teacher.
‘Who is it?’
I tried to find the most suitable person by pointing out various people in my mind.
Since Aden herself is breathless, it is impossible because her power is not visible at the moment.
Elisha is not close enough to seek her help.
Pareon says that he has become close to him, but he doesn’t have enough energy to develop his skills to reach Barter.
Then there is a reason to teach me, and I have no choice but to find someone with that level of skill.
‘Is he the only one after all?’
At the correct answer, I narrowed my eyes and drank the remaining soup.
If this method is impossible anyway, the way to save Lorne is far away.
Even if it’s between two judges, we have no choice but to bump into each other.
* * * *
Seras has a cadet he’s been keeping an eye on lately.
She was the one who passed her examination, thinking that she was an out-of-the-ordinary person even when she served as her examiner.
As if to reciprocate her expectations, he caused a stir from the first day of her entrance, and he made her, the homeroom professor of E class, shrug her shoulders.
Even the president, who is famous for not giving compliments to others, overheard mentioning the boy, saying, ‘An outstanding cadet came in?’ After hearing rumors about him.
And today, her student suddenly asked her to meet her.
Being the cadet she always had her eye on, Seras set aside her after-school personal schedule to interview her.
“Drink.”
“Thank you.”
Seras served coffee to Belle, a student who visited her lab, and Seras sat across from her.
On the outside, she pretends to be calm as usual, but Seras is actually quite nervous right now.
She is often criticized for her cold appearance, so it was rare for her students to ask for an interview with her.
Seras took a sip of her coffee and lifted her head.
Blue eyes that were softer than usual stared at Bell.
“Yes. Why did you ask to see me?”
“Actually, it wasn’t a meeting, but I wanted to meet you because I wanted to make a personal request.”
“A request?”
There isn’t much that a cadet could ask of a professor.
Unless it was a request that went beyond the limit, such as asking for preferential treatment in grades or other areas.
So Seras frowned for a moment, wondering if this boy was of that kind.
From what I’ve been watching for the past week or so, I have a strong impression that he’s a pretty diligent cadet.
So he had a hard time erasing his anxiety, even though he thought it wouldn’t happen.
Seras finally opened his mouth, thinking that he should have said this before he started talking.
“I know that you won the match against the class B cadets and that you have a good academic attitude. As a homeroom professor, I am willing to listen if it is not an unreasonable request.”
It’s like drawing a line just by cutting it.
They said, ‘If you are asking too much, go back now.’
However, Bell smiled faintly as if he had expected it.
“Probably not an unreasonable demand. But I was hesitant because I thought it wouldn’t be an easy request.”
“I’ll gladly listen as long as it’s not beyond the moral permissible range. It also means to repay you for living up to my expectations.”
What she said behind the scenes was her sincerity.
Of course, as a professor, I know that I shouldn’t have hate or dislikes for the cadets I teach.
Nonetheless, it is true that I am grateful that the child who paid attention proved that her eyes were not wrong.
That’s why her true intention was that she wanted to congratulate her personally.
Bell nodded her head in satisfaction at her answer, and gazed at Seras with her serious eyes.
“In that case, I dare you to ask.”
“Yes. Let me tell you.”
What kind of favor do you want to ask for?
Seras waited for her words, suppressing his emotions as much as possible.
In case the disciple’s request is excessive, so that he can be cut off as coolly as possible.
After a moment of silence, his tightly closed lips parted.
“Please teach me, at least for three weeks.”
That’s how the silence was broken.
