chapter 3
3 – To the Academy
Six years have passed since I took that elixir.
In the meantime, my physique has gradually become stronger, and at first I couldn’t even properly wield a wooden sword, but now I can wield it a thousand times a day.
Probably because of the effect of the elixir, I think the speed at which my skills grow is definitely fast.
Although it is still only a skill developed by going to the back mountain and beating wild boars and animals without a teacher.
I don’t know if this is why the expectations for the academy, which will be heading today, are even higher.
As it is the best educational institution in the Empire in name and reality, there must be many teachers worth watching and learning from.
“Hoo-wook! Whoop!”
“Nine hundred and ninety-nine…. Cloth!”
I finished one of my daily routines while listening to Lorne recite the number of swings of the wooden sword on my behalf.
“Good job. Bell.”
“Yes, thank you.”
He expressed his gratitude by wiping his sweat with a towel that was close to the rag that Lorne held out.
Since today is the departure day, I wanted to rest as much as possible.
“Did you pack everything?”
“My sister is probably packing bari-bari. You take good care of yourself.”
“Don’t worry. I’ve already packed it.”
Lorne shows a confident smile with his fists clenched.
I thought that look was very cute.
Well, he’s a meticulous guy no matter what.
I wouldn’t be surprised if I packed my things a week before the decision to go to the academy.
Now I just have to lightly wash off my sweat and prepare for departure.
In order to ride the wagon, I had to go to the next village, so I didn’t have enough time.
“I’ll wash up, pack my things, and come back soon. Hang in there.”
“Yes, go slowly.”
There was a basin with water outside the house, and I ran into my sister on the way there.
I’m the type of person who worries about me so much that until yesterday I was busy worrying about it, but today I feel like my expression has improved so much that I feel relieved.
“Bell, I packed everything. Are you leaving now?”
“To do so.”
“… Have a safe trip. Even if you don’t pass, don’t be discouraged. Understand?”
My sister seemed to think I was about to fall, so she gave me words of comfort early on.
Well, it’s not too much.
In a village like this, even if only one student entered the academy would turn the village upside down, it would be more strange to expect that both Ronet and I would pass.
To be honest, if I didn’t feel anxious, it would be a joke.
But what can I do? If the boy draws a knife, he should cut it at least.
“Would you like to hug your sister before we go?”
“It’s not a child, it’s a hug….”
“Do you like it?”
No, aside from the things I don’t like, I haven’t washed up yet, so my body is sweaty.
However, if I refused, it seems that tears like chicken poop will flow from my sister’s eyes any moment.
In the end, I had no choice but to open my arms and my sister came to me and hugged me.
In the past, my older sister was in a position to hug me, but now it feels really new to say the opposite.
“I’ll be back, sister. Don’t worry i’m waiting I will be in contact with you often when you enter school.”
“Yes, come on. Don’t forget to say hello to your parents too. You should take good care of Lone too. Understand?”
“Even if you say you’re not a kid anymore.”
She replied with a wry smile towards her older sister, who finished the unexpected request.
Then, my older sister, who had fallen from her arms, nodded her head in satisfaction as she looked up at me, who had grown one head bigger than herself.
“Okay. I won’t worry anymore Good bye.”
After saying that, after parting with my older sister, I immediately lightly covered my back to wipe off my sweat, then went home and greeted my parents.
Both of them just said to have a good trip like noonas, but they didn’t show any tears.
Because they are so strong.
So, I packed my things, left the house where I had lived for 18 years, and walked with Lorne while being seen off by the villagers.
The scenery I always see changes and my heart pounds for no reason as I step on a road I have never walked in my entire life.
Now it feels like something has just begun.
* * * *
Delos Academy.
Unlike other educational facilities, it is not built in the center of a huge city, but is located on an island when you head northeast from the city of Hispen.
Originally, this island also had no name, but at some point it was named Delos Academy Island after the name of Delos Academy.
There is nothing in this academy island that has built its own environment.
Heading northwest, there are dense forests and valleys, as well as tall mountains and wilds.
Heading northeast, there are even ruins that are said to contain the history of ancient magic, which is now forbidden.
Since it is said to be a place with the history of the Arcadia Empire, you can’t imagine how deep that history is.
It means that the place we are currently stepping on is such a great place.
“Are you applying for admission?”
“Yes, it is.”
Upon arriving at the entrance of the academy, we were greeted by a middle-aged man with dark green hair and a serious look.
Judging from the fact that he is not particularly memorable, he is not a character that takes a large part in the academy.
“Please put your hand here and let your magic flow. You will not be allowed to enter without identification.”
He held out a round object in front of us.
Perhaps this is the mana scanner mentioned in the original story.
It is the academy’s unique method of confirming a person’s identity through the flow of magic power.
Giing.
“Catch number 2437, Bel Dinaur. Is that correct?”
“That’s right.”
“Next, application number 1437, Rone Elua. Is that correct?”
“Yes.”
After checking his identity, he put his other hand on the wad of paper he was holding in his hand.
At the same time, information about us was written on the paper in an instant, as if it were printed, and he handed the paper to their respective owners.
“Take this and go to the exam room. Signposts will be erected everywhere, so it won’t be too difficult to find.”
“Thank you. Lorne, let’s go.”
“Yes!”
When I arrived in front of the test center with Lone’s hand nodding vigorously, the road split into two forks.
At the entrance on the left, there is a phrase that reads ‘Combat Department Applicant Test Center’.
At the entrance on the right, there is a phrase that reads ‘Magic Department Applicant Test Center’.
And in front of each entrance, neatly dressed men guard the place.
“Rone, you go over there. See you later.”
“Okay. When I finish first, I’ll be waiting in front of that tree.”
Lorne pointed to the large tree next to the entrance to the combat department exam room where I took the exam.
As soon as I nodded, Lorne headed towards the entrance of the exam hall with gunfire.
After watching his back to the end, I also moved to the place where I was going.
In front of him, there was a line of people who looked like test takers like me, but among them, I saw a face that was quite familiar, so I opened my eyes without realizing it.
‘Elisha Crozel.’
Golden hair flowing down to his waist and turquoise eyes.
A body that is resilient enough to be seen at a glance even from a distance.
And its eyes are sharp as if it were hunting for prey.
Like Lorne, she was a main character in the original story, a woman who is the second daughter of the Crozel family, famous for their samurai family.
There is a setting that she came to her academy just as she was kicked out of her family because her talent lags behind her older sister, Ellen Crozel.
In fact, Elisha is also a great enough person to be a genius in the eyes of her criminals, but her sister, Ellen, is so great that the feeling that her light has faded is strong.
In her original work, Aden, her main character, finds out about it and caresses her, thereby raising her flag.
She didn’t know that she would be able to meet her original characters so quickly, except for Lone.
It’s a new feeling.
“Please enter the test center from application numbers 2435 to 2438.”
As soon as she was excited by her happy face, the man guarding her entrance called the next applicants.
Among them was Elisha, whom she had just seen.
Knock.
When I stepped through the open door, a fairly spacious space appeared.
In the center is a dark purple haired woman sitting on her chair holding a pedestal, paper and a pen.
Even her face was quite familiar.
‘Is it really Professor Seras?’
A character who first appeared at this point in the original work, and has [Eyes of Insight] That can grasp the inside of her opponent.
I don’t know how it looks specifically, but as described in the original work, you can see the person’s current capabilities and the limits of when they have grown up like an aura.
However, this is to determine the ability of the body, not the size of mana, but there is a limit.
So in the original work, I played the role of an examiner with the help of a mana meter.
“First of all, sit down and put your hand on the measuring ball under the chair. And tell the color that each measuring ball emits. The guards are checking behind me, so if it turns out to be false, I’ll disqualify you right away.”
Prof. Seras recites the test takers’ instructions in a really businesslike and stiff tone without even saying hello.
His attitude is somewhat awkward, but since he was like this in the original work, he doesn’t really care.
First of all, as she instructed, I grabbed the measuring ball at my feet.
Anger.
At the same time, with the feeling of something slipping out of my hand, the measuring ball, which had no pattern, began to emit light.
Looking at it just burns my insides.
‘Only C. At least a C.’
For me, I earnestly asked for it because I would be happy to see even a C-grade purple.
The reason for this is that the academy is in fact taking a form close to the caste system in which students are treated according to a comprehensive evaluation from A to E.
Of course, even if your magic power rating is low, you won’t know if you fall under the eyes of Professor Seras and receive an S-class physical evaluation.
But in my opinion, it’s like picking stars from the sky.
In the first place, even in the official setting, the students who received that level of evaluation from Professor Seras could be counted on one hand.
Even Elisha, who is a genius, received an A grade in the physical evaluation in the original work, and ended up with an A grade in the overall evaluation.
Shaaak….
Eventually, the pure white light surrounding the measuring ball gradually decreased.
I looked into the measuring ball, anxious to see what kind of result awaited me.
“Ah.”
Within a moment, when I saw the measuring ball welcoming me, I unknowingly let out a sigh.
The color of the light floating on the measuring ball is green.
In other words, it means that it was given the lowest grade, F, in mana measurement.
This is the worst. This is the moment when the future you dreamed of collapses.
This is better than a criminal who can’t manifest magic, but it’s meaningless.
Moreover, magical manifestation F-class was immediately eliminated from the list of entrants without even a physical evaluation.
Realizing that fact, I could feel my mind getting more and more distant.
Will my efforts for the past six years really go to waste at this rate?
“I’m exhausted.”
A low voice filled with despondency came out.
I waited for the evaluation, feeling that Professor Seras’ gaze was gradually moving towards me.
