chapter 10
10 – Facing Crisis, Ingenious Strategy
The comment was shocking, but I wasn’t just surprised.
The reason was that if you dissected the comment of love peace, someone who could be called a core user of the forum, you could understand.
love peace (secret comment) – By any chance, do you know someone named MacDeras, Administrator?
Love Peace referred to me as the administrator and then asked if I had a connection with MacDeras.
“If they already know or suspect my true identity, it would be more reasonable to ask if I am MacDeras, rather than asking if I know MacDeras.”
In the end, it means that the administrator doesn’t even consider the thought of being Macdallas. It could be intentional, but that’s something only Love Peace can know by reading their mind. I replied to Love Peace with a secret comment.
ㅇㅇ[Administrator] – Why are you asking about Macdallas?
Making a fuss about who Macdallas is is a waste of time. If Love Peace determines that I don’t have the information they want, they will neatly close the question.
On the other hand, they might have the information I want. That’s what I’m judging.
Love Peace – Do you know who Macdallas is?
“Of course.”
This is the normal reaction. Those who have experienced communication know that when the same question is asked twice, the roles of A and B are clearly defined. Obviously, I am A, who may have the information they want, and Love Peace, who wants to obtain the information, is B.
ㅇㅇ[Administrator] – First, tell me specifically why you’re asking. Then I can give you an answer.
Love Peace – Um… Well, you see…
ㅇㅇ[Administrator] – Ever since I uploaded the data related to mass murder magic, strange people keep contacting me. If Love Peace is just trying to provoke me, I’ll just block them.
Love Peace – Wait a minute!
Love Peace urgently tried to stop me, and after about a minute, they replied again.
Love Peace – First… Please answer my question once. Do you know a person named Macdallas? Or do you not know… Just tell me that, and I’ll ask my question too…!
“If you’re just an ordinary person unrelated to Macdallas, is it because you don’t even want to mention the reason? No. Maybe you can’t say. Either way, it doesn’t matter.”
I can’t say that I am Macdallas himself. Moreover, even saying that I know Macdallas in a situation where I don’t even know what is happening could be a risk.
But it’s okay. There is a way to find out the reason without any risk.
ㅇㅇ[Administrator] – Block the pest. And ban them from the gallery for 24 hours for provocation and harassment.
Love Peace – Hiiiiik! I… I’m not provoking or harassing!
ㅇㅇ[Administrator] – I don’t know.
Love Peace, realizing that they couldn’t desperately defend themselves, changed their approach.
love peace – I’m sorry! I…I have a question!
Power is so sweet. You can manipulate people as you please.
Love Peace began to spill out their own story.
love peace – Administrator, you know that I consider peace and harmony important, right? I prefer peace over war! I hope everyone pursues harmony rather than conflict. I’m a pacifist…
ㅇㅇ[Administrator] – Weren’t you just a peace concept fanatic? I thought you were trying to annoy people.
love peace – W-What? That’s a misunderstanding! Anyway…there was someone in the gallery who shared similar opinions with me. They also claimed to pursue peace.
ㅇㅇ[Administrator] – Let’s skip the introduction. Can you summarize it in three lines?
love peace – Um…well, actually, I think I know which novel the Administrator is possessed by.
ㅇㅇ[Administrator] – Huh?
love peace – The talentless magician dreams of becoming an archmage. A player who is possessed by that novel…is planning something terrible.
“Wow, damn it…”
I almost cursed and insulted him right then and there. I thought I was being careful, but he even got the spacing perfect.
Well, considering the detailed analysis and biological experimentation records of the mass slaughter magic I distributed this time, anyone who is possessed by the same novel and has a connection to the Matap would easily be convinced that those records belong to McDeathlas.
Even if they have no connection to the Matap, if they are someone who has experienced war firsthand, even if they have only witnessed the mass slaughter magic a few times, it would not be difficult for them to deduce that the magic being discussed in the document is the one that exists in the novel they are possessed by.
“Did I reveal too much detail?”
Even if there are thousands of novels, there aren’t many cases where the details are the same.
For example, the magic called Fireball exists in most magic novels. The effect is simply launching a ball of flames.
But what if there is a novel with the ‘detail’ that when Fireball is used, a fountain of sugar pours out of the user’s mouth and nose as a penalty?
It’s a common Fireball, but if it pours out a fountain of sugar from the user’s mouth and nose, everyone would think, “Ah, this is that novel!”
The talentless magician dreams of becoming an archmage. This novel is similar. Most of the magic was common, but there were many details that differentiated it from other novels in terms of effects and range. So, it’s not a remarkable thing to figure out the novel itself. It’s just that I was surprised by something else.
“There were Earthlings who possessed the ability to possess the novel I was in?”
In the years-long war, I had thought that all ordinary players would have died. Well, that’s because I monopolized all the various hidden pieces and connections that existed in the novel. Without hidden pieces and connections, surviving here would be ridiculously difficult, to the point where words couldn’t express it.
Overcoming various dilemmas through solo play is the basic premise of this novel.
“There are still players alive here.”
We called those who were incarnated into novels on Earth “players,” comparing them to the game.
I sincerely believed that there would not be a single player in my novel. That’s why I provided some information that could be somewhat specific as a test.
But I was wrong in my judgment. Fortunately, it seems that they don’t think of me as MacDuras, but one thing is certain. Someone has incarnated into the same novel as me.
From now on, I had to continue the conversation more cautiously. Now, even from my perspective, I couldn’t help but be curious about what Love Peace had to say.
ㅇㅇ[Administrator] – Hm… You’ve been persistent since earlier…ㅇㅅㅇ… If you continue to behave aggressively, I’ll just block you. So, what did you want to say? ㅇㅅㅇ…
An ambiguous attitude that is neither negative nor positive.
Love Peace – hehehe… I’ll just be honest and say everything. The person I was conversing with seems to have an extreme nature… They said that after becoming incarnated in the novel, a person named MacDuras and other humans have committed numerous massacres, causing suffering to countless different races, including themselves. So, the non-human races are preparing for war together. They’re planning to kill all the humans that exist in their novels.
“Wow, damn.”
This time, I cursed out loud.
Currently, on the surface, all the different races seem to be reconciling with each other, but behind the scenes, they are hostile towards one another. Well, that’s because the elves, druids, dwarves, demons, vampires, succubi, and other diverse races have different appearances, as well as completely different personalities and cultures.
If there’s one thing they have in common, it’s that they all have a record of being hit by the mass slaughter magic that I developed.
For them to unite under the surface and thirst for the blood of human races. Moreover, it was deeply concerning that there were players among the core leaders. If they were players who knew the specifics of the novel’s setting, development, and racial characteristics, it wouldn’t be strange for them to create any variable.
Of course, there’s a possibility that the incarnated person who is an untalented magician dreams of becoming an archmage. But that’s a foolish thought. If they haven’t read “A Talentless Magician Dreams of Becoming an Archmage,” then it’s impossible for someone who isn’t human to survive for years.
Even I wouldn’t be able to defend against more than ten different races united to launch an attack. Not only would the Demon Tower, but also the human territories would become wastelands, and all living beings would undoubtedly perish.
We had to prepare for the threat. And to do that, we needed information.
ㅇㅇ[Administrator] – Why aren’t you answering? What did you want to say?
Love Peace – We have to stop it. I don’t want to see people die.
The fundamental question that arises here.
ㅇㅇ[Administrator] – It seems that the person you call your friend holds a grudge against the human race, possibly because of the massacre by Macderrath and the humans. In that case, isn’t seeking revenge a valid reason? Why do you want to stop it?
Love Peace – Whether it’s valid or not, many people will die in the war. Even other players who might be immersed in that novel…
A field of flowers in my mind. I wanted to say that, but a more important question is needed here.
ㅇㅇ[Administrator] – I see. Then what is the reason for finding someone who knows Macderrath? Even if it is Macderrath, he won’t be able to stop the war anyway.
Love Peace – No, if what I heard from my friend about Macderrath is true, then I can stop it. My friend definitely said that. Macderrath can perform magic that can annihilate several races.
ㅇㅇ[Administrator] – Are you suggesting a preemptive strike? What’s the point? If more races unite, humans will become extinct anyway.
Love Peace – I’m not suggesting the use of force. If he’s a guy who can be considered a grand magician, he won’t do something so foolish. Just showing his power will be enough. We have a similar phenomenon on our Earth, don’t we? All major powers possess nuclear weapons, but no one actually uses them. They only demonstrate their power through a few experiments. But nuclear weapons serve as a powerful deterrent to war. Major powers with nuclear weapons haven’t waged war against each other for decades. They may have conflicts, but no wars.
“Haah…”
The essence of Love Peace’s words is as follows: Macderrath, with his very existence, possesses a deterrent power like a nuclear weapon, so he will demonstrate his power in the form of experiments before a war breaks out.
If the mass slaughter magic that Macderrath had forgotten during the time of peace resurfaces and many different races actually witness it, those who were preparing for war will gradually withdraw.
It’s not a false statement. This applies to Earth as well.
Imagine a scenario where Nuclear-armed country A can annihilate five countries. And let’s assume a coalition of 20 nuclear non-armed countries as B, and they engage in war.
B will charge forward with confidence, believing in their resources for a surprise attack. But what if A launches a nuclear bomb with a blast radius of over 300km by chance on the path where B is entering, for the purpose of nuclear experiments?
Even if no damage occurs, they will retreat. If A realizes that it’s already too late for war, they will have no choice but to attack, but if they happen to witness that scene by chance while considering a surprise attack, they are more likely to withdraw or at least postpone the war to a later date in order to minimize the damage. Until countermeasures against nuclear bombs are prepared. Hearing about nuclear weapons and experiencing them firsthand are completely different.
But unfortunately, the aftermath of the mass slaughter magic I possess is very severe. If I adjust the power just right, the different races won’t take it seriously, but if I use all my power and the races cast Alpano and push forward, I will be helpless and defenseless.
“Ah… why didn’t I think of this?”
I pondered seriously. And after a while, a brilliant idea came to mind.
A clever strategy that could perfectly overcome this situation.
