Chapter 14: Reactions and Goal

———Karra———

<5: 47 pm>

“Haa… Haa… Somehow… It’s starting to feel exhausting.” I barely did shit since we started rushing it, but still, this is getting tiring.

“It’s to be expected with us moving down so many floors. We’re almost at the thirtieth floor, so at least we’re getting quite close to the goal you set up.” Wiina said, not looking even a little bit winded. Just what is she on to stay at a hundred percent?

{late regret}

{Should’ve been more reasonable lol}

“Shut it, chat.” I said in protest. “Anyway, I’m not gonna throw in the towel now…”

“As long as you stay conscious until we reach the fortieth floor I’d consider it a win.” Wiina remarked as we walked down towards the twenty ninth floor.

“Right…” I said, trying to keep my posture steady.

“Kinda crazy how deep they’ve gone down…” I remarked, feeling like the twenty or so minutes went by in a flash. It’s like a collection of blurry footage and absolutely one-sided carnage.

“Yeah…” Glery chimed in. It’s pretty hard to make out everything that has happened, but…

“Good thing some people are noting things down on Cantreid and other sites.” I mentioned while looking through the threads on other sites updating in real time. Honestly it doesn’t have as many views as I would expect. In fact, while her stream is almost reaching five digit views, that still feels rather little considering the scale of the stream and some important info in it. “Probably gonna paste these into a text file somewhere…”

<5: 56 pm>

“I just realized something, Wiina hasn’t been much magic at all.” I mentioned, seeing her once again slicing through enemies without ever needing to cast even a single spell.

“<Just noticed that now?>” Kenni said in a snarky tone.

“<It’s almost like she’s hiding something… Or maybe I’m looking too much into it.>” Jass chimed in with his own opinion.

<From how I see it, she just doesn’t see the need for it, and so she doesn’t use it.>” Malk meanwhile has a pretty simple guess.

“<I believe outside of healing magic and utility ones for bypassing the traps, she hasn’t used any offensive spell at all.>” Orrel gave us a summary of her magic usage.

“<Well, as Malk said. Don't need it, don’t use it.>” Useph came to the same conclusion as Malk.

“I think the one time we’ve seen her use an offensive spell is against the mooks on the first floor in the very first dungeon stream.” I said, looking back on the few times we’ve seen her. “It was… a simple fingersnap and they all combust.”

“<Hmm… Instant, no chanting, and overall clean kills…>” Orrel muttered as I can hear him clicking and listening in on something else. Is he looking through the old VODs? “<I don’t think I have seen anyone with that level of mastery aside from her.>”

“<How far is the gap, do you think?>” Jass asked.

“<As far as it stood there’s not a lot to go off on.>” Orrel said, not feeling confident in guessing right now.

“Ah! They’re entering the thirtieth floor!” I quickly pointed out, watching the stream intently and through the camera a giant bulky knight can be seen… I don’t think there’s someone inside it though.

“<Like with all those armors moving around, it’s animated via magic and not because of anything inside.>” Wiina said as she walked in front of our streamer friend, brandishing her weapon and once more looking rather carefree.

*Slash*

“...Aww man.” I can’t help but mutter out seeing her once again destroying another boss in one single strike.

“<Still no magic used…>” Orrel said, fixating on that particular topic. He is quite strong with magic I believe, but Karra is the one among us who actually uses it the most.

“<I would like to cut or punch through steel…>” Useph wistfully commented.

“<We will be able to do so soon, that much I believe.>” Malk meanwhile is very confident about getting strong.

“Yeah! We’re definitely getting there someday!” I chimed in, feeling optimistic about our chances.

“<All too optimistic aren’t you? Can’t say I don’t want to do something like this one day.>” Kenni said, dropping her usual tone down a bit. “<Also, some new item drops.>”

“Whoa, what is that potion…” I said, looking at the shiny glowing potion. It’s still red, but clearly a bit special.

“<This one is quite a bit more potent than a normal health potion. You will need a lot less to heal up quickly.>” Oh… Maybe this will be closer to a health potion in the game.

<Hmm… Can we make them with monster materials I wonder…>” Orrel is still pondering on stuff.

The two then continued descending down, going to the thirty-first floor. I’m not sure if anything important will happen before the fortieth floor, since they are rushing through these.

“You know, I think we should actually go in as a team. What do you think?” I said, feeling more confident seeing the two rushing through everything, and we also got a good deal of info from all the floors they went through.

“<...You know, if you can convince Karra to give us the weapon drops then why not?>” Useph is the first to reply.

“<Actually, yeah, it’s been so boring, I could use a group activity.>” Kenni is the next to reply.

“<Sure, why not?>” Malk is also in.

“<Would be a good place to test out magic and other theories.>” Orrel also agreed in a roundabout way.

“Jass?” He’s the one who isn’t responding at all… “I think he’s afk.”

“<Sorry, was doing something, what’s up?>” Ah, here he is.

“Should our glass go raid the dungeon together?” I asked the question one more time.

“<...Maybe if you can get others that aren’t in the group call right now, perhaps.>” He said, not sounding too enthusiastic about it.

“<Just say you don’t wanna go, dude.>” Kenni chimed in.

“<Ehh… I can go, just tell me the date… I’m gonna go to sleep.>” He said, suddenly sounding very sleepy.

*Beep*

“<He ran.>” Kenni flatly said.

“<...He is right that we should ask others not in the call right now.>” Malk meanwhile is considering what he said, and yeah, they shouldn’t be left out too.

Meanwhile these two are still rushing towards the fortieth floor. I think Karra is really at her limit for her to start being carried, I wonder how she’s thinking right now?

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Probably finding it a bit embarrassing. I would definitely be embarrassed from getting literally carried. At least she has an excuse of being exhausted to all hell. Also, gotta respect the grind, I think most people will collapse like she is, walking for probably many miles in total and having to deal with monsters and use magic and all that.

“<By the way, do you think Karra will ever tell us her deal?>” Kenni asked as we watched this montage.

“<I think at least, she probably won’t tell us anything personal.>” Orrel makes his guess.

“<Feels like that would be the case for anyone with a shred of decency.>” Useph remarked. “<And for all we know, this Wiina person might have not told Karra even a single damn thing about her life.>”

“<We just really don’t know how well they’re acquainted…>” Malk chimed in with something to consider.

“They don’t seem too cold to each other at least.” I remarked. They actually feel quite friendly to each other, that’s the vibe I’m getting.

“<Huhu, I wonder how far they’ll go.>” Kenni suddenly said, and I think they’ll be great friends.

“<Would be one hell of a catch if she plays her cards right.>” Useph said, and I think I’m out of the loop, actually.

“<...Huh. I didn’t know she swings that way.>” Malk also said something I… OH… Ohhh…

“Yeah, I didn’t know that either.” I chimed in, taking a while to fully know what they’re talking about.

“<I’m just assuming, considering her reaction.>” Kenni said. So it’s not confirmed? Has no one ever talked to her about it before?

“I see…” I muttered, guess that’s another mystery…

“<All that aside, does no one have info on what the school is up to? Or anything around at all.>” Malk asked. And well…

“Nope.” Why would I even bother?

“<None.>” Kenni replied.

“<Zero info.>” Orrel chimed in.

“<Dunno.>” Useph also answered.

Guess that’s gonna be… maybe a month or two until anything about that starts again.

Anyway, let’s go back to focusing on this stream.

———Karra———

<6: 58 pm>

“Say… How deep is this dungeon?” I asked, starting to regain some stamina after being carried around and having a short rest.

“I’m not sure. This is the one dungeon I have extensively looked through, but I am rather certain most dungeons are very deep, and it is also very obviously magical in nature.” She clarified.

“Speaking of magical… I would’ve expected water pipes or something poking out of the first few floors of the dungeon.” I said, suddenly remembering something odd about the dungeon. Its size means that it probably hit or destroyed something underground that might be important. Did it like… consciously avoid these things?

“That would be a reasonable assumption. Of course, in a world with magic, the nonsensical is more likely.” She replied, also finding it weird. “The fact that not much was affected by the sudden appearance of dungeons is quite a miracle. Also other things to do with the Mythical Eclipse, of course.”

“Yeah…” I said before getting back on my feet. “Ugh… I can stand for a while. Maybe not for the trip back.”

{So how many floors exactly?}

{how many levels?}

“Ah. Right. So how low have you been so far? What floor have you been on?” I asked, realizing that I never got a definitive number.

“...If memory serves, the sixtieth floor.” She answered after a bit of thinking… and yeah, that’s twenty more floors. Fuck that. “It still goes deeper, of course.”

“Great…” I said as we walked down the stairs and finally arrived at the last floor, for the stream.

*ROAR*

“How the hell does a statue roar!?” I yelled out, seeing the statue of a slightly chubby dragon with a long neck. It’s bigger than the living armor on the thirtieth floor, this thing is probably comparable to a two stories building.

Its body is smooth, looking like a high quality sculpture one might find in ancient temples or castles. It doesn’t look slow either, its motion is about as fluid as any living being.

*Slash*

…Well I was gonna keep the inner-monologue going for a while, but okay.

{Still a one shot…}

{would be nice to know what it does}

“And there’s that.” Wiina said, looking at the bisected stone dragon. At what point do I find her struggling even a little bit?

*Shine*

“Here’s the reward, and…” She picked up two weapons. One is a nicer looking staff and another is a nice sword that looks like it’s made of silver. “I’m sure you can give this to someone.”

“I guess I could…” I said as I looked around this boss floor, and wow is it big. “Hmm… Now that we’re here. Guess we can go out now.”

{Wait right we’re at 40th now}

{It’s been multiple hours but still feels kinda fast}

{This is a world record right?}

Somehow I don’t feel that great despite reaching it? Probably because it’s basically just Wiina doing most of the work and dismantling any traps that would’ve given me trouble even without the monsters.

“I think I should come here again sometime…” I muttered out loud.

“It’s going to be dangerous. Remember that you are struggling before we even reach the tenth floor.” Wiina suggested.

“Yeah yeah…” I said as I started walking back up.

“Are you sure you’re fine enough to walk back up without assistance?” She asked as she walked behind me.

“...I mean. What do you think?” I reflected the question back as we awkwardly stopped. “Gonna carry me all the way back up?”

…I think that silence tells me everything.
