Beyond the Bloodline

Chapter 13- Error…Not Found

“Although I can’t exactly be picky right now, no freaking way am I putting my teeth on that.

Blood Orb.”

Jamie activated a skill, before raising his hand and rapidly gathering a large mass of offensive spatial magic power.

With his superb energy manipulation skills, condensed the spatial energy and moulded it into the shape of a sword, taking a deep breath before looking at the dragon who was falling in and out of consciousness.

“Well…better luck in the next life. Spatial Rupture.”

**SWIISHH!!!

He swung the sword, releasing a singular slash of spatial energy that carved through space, erasing everything on contact.

It cleaved through the dragon’s scales and its flesh underneath like a hot knife through butter, lopping off the creature’s head and consigning it to oblivion.

Blood gushed out like a fountain, but instead of splattering all over and painting the ground red, the blood flowed up into the air and condensed rapidly, forming a massive orb of blood that hovered a metre above his head.

“It’s things like this that make me like my Vampire side…I can easily recover all the energy I just expended by draining it from this guy’s blood.

Also using skills that augment my spells is possible without using any of my own magic power when this blood orb is active, unfortunately, it’s a well-known technique of Noble Vampires so enemies always make sure to target the blood orbs first whenever they see one.”

The man placed a hand on his chin and pondered to himself while the dragon’s blood was being drained, thinking of ways to conceal the blood orb such that people who possess analysis-type skills, or skills that let them see the unseen.

‘If I use the law of concealment…and mix in a bit of trickery? That should work. Maybe I can also add Tenebrosity to prevent those with darkness affinities from sensing it, they’re more perceptive towards concealed things after all.’

Deciding to work on this technique when he’s less occupied, he turned his gaze towards the Vampire quintet who had now closed the distance, momentarily glancing at the subordinate vampires who used water magic to quench the flames.

“Dragon Hearts still sell for quite a lot in these times, right?”

“If you know the right buyers, then yes.”

“Good. We’ll sell this then.”

*DING!

The moment Jamie said that a sound rang out in his head, the kind one’s phone would make when they had a new message.

Upon hearing it, he turned his gaze towards the translucent blue notification board in front of him, heaving a soft sigh upon reading the contents.

[Certain Existential Records Could Not Be Found.

He turned his gaze towards Davina who was holding his suit jacket and posed a question to her.

“Is the system bugged or something?”

“Huh? It’s not…it’s working just fine for me.”

“Really? It’s not telling you any strange things like ‘Certain Existential Records Could Not Be Found’?”

The eighteen-year-old's expression turned strange when she heard the words Jamie spoke, and she silently shook her head multiple times.

“Wanete! Get over here for a bit.”

*SWOOSH!

“How may I help you, Lord Westley?”

“Use that appraisal skill of yours on me and tell me the results.”

Though she didn’t know why he wanted her to do that, the girl followed his wish and appraised him, before displaying the results to him.

Seeing how so many parts of the displayed status were either missing or censored, the man shook his head while sighing in exasperation.

He turned back to the diaphanous board in front of him and tapped the ‘Y’, after which, a more censored status board showed up in front of him.

“Yep, it’s official. The system’s bugged.”

The man dismissed the status board and jumped down from the dragon’s corpse, before tossing the entire thing into his subspace.

He then manipulated the blood that constituted the massive orb floating in the air beside him, making a stream of crimson liquid flow through the air and into his mouth.

“…Bland.”

Shaking his head in disappointment at the less-than-desired taste of the dragon’s blood, he drank a bit more before eventually getting fed up with it.

“You guys want some?”

The Vampires all perked up their ears upon hearing the man’s question, greed and hunger flashing through their eyes.

However, Wanete’s reply to Jamie’s question served to knock rationality back into most of them.

“Though we’d really want to have some, there’s far too much magic power within it for us to bear with our current Existence Realms. So, unfortunately, we’d have to decline the offer to drink now.”

“Now?”

Jamie tilted his head in confusion when he heard her weird phrasing, but the Vampire just silently fished out a small transparent drum, tall enough to reach her waist and silently placed it down on the ground in front of him.

“Um…Wanete? Why do you have that in your spatial expansion waist pouch?”

“For research purposes.”

“Research?”

“Yes, Research.”

The girl replied to David’s question without even looking at him, her gaze fixed on the blood orb floating in the air beside Jamie.

“Well, isn’t this convenient?”

The Hybrid chuckled lightly as he spoke, manipulating the blood to flow into the drum before asking the Runemaster girl a question that snapped her out of her daze.

“I believe what the dragon targeted with his first attack was you guy’s base on this Island, was it not?

How are we now going to get off?”

Hearing his query, Wanete snapped back to reality, quickly wiping the drool on the side of her lips and retracting her fangs before replying.

“Regarding that, the Dragon destroyed a Decoy.”

“What?”

“Our real base on this island…was never above ground to begin with.”

The girl then gave Jamie the full details she was unable to give him earlier due to the Dragon’s interruption, allowing the Hybrid to understand that the real base that the Vampires had made on this unknown island, was within a bunker about 500 metres underground.

What the Dragon had destroyed, was the ‘decoy base’ that was practically empty, only placed there to throw off any potential tails off their trails.

However, the attack of the Legendary Realm Dragon was bored quite deep into the ground, reaching the ceiling of the bunker underneath and damaging it.

So just to be safe, they had to run checks on everything to see if the things they needed were fine first.

Jamie killed time by looking through the base, with most of his attention being captured by the plane that was in the centre of the whole facility.

It was a Vertical Take Off and Landing aircraft, one that was well suited for this kind of place given there was no space in the bunker for a runway, and neither did the Vampires want to spend that amount of money.

When the checks were done, they all boarded the aircraft, with the subordinate vampires handling the flight operations.

Getting to the Vampire’s continent was going to take a while, considering how ridiculously large the planet Estea was, and how far off from the Continent they were.

The route they had planned required them to fly over the Human Continent, then land in the Neutral Continent where they were to take a different aircraft to the Vampire Continent directly.

They also planned to handle the Dragon Corpse sale while they were in the Neutral Continent, and Jamie also wanted to explore a bit, making two birds to be killed with one stone.

After giving a status report to the Higher Ups and informing them of the group’s departure, the VTOL finally took off, quickly rising up into the sky.

Under the now moonlit sky, the plane rapidly accelerated before shooting off into the horizon, with a course set for the Neutral Continent.
