Chapter 218: Chapter 218: Selling Out Teammates

"You're lying, Solomon. I've been a hunter since I was ten. I can track anyone and avoid being tracked. I never noticed anyone following us along the way."

Solomon pointed to his ear and belt, saying, "They didn't need to follow us. There was a receiver in the heel of my shoe, a tracker and microphone in my belt, and a tiny earpiece smaller than a grain of rice in my ear. Do you know how much the earpiece cost?"

Archer shook his head, unsure whether to believe Solomon. But the facts made it hard not to, as a group of fully armed men in black helmets and armor appeared a few meters behind Solomon.

"This earpiece alone costs over a hundred thousand dollars, Archer. You can choose to do nothing or help my employer, and you won't have to die. Maybe they'll even give you some money."

Listening to Solomon and seeing the armed men nearby, Archer thought for a moment. Sure, if they paid him, he wouldn't mind taking out General Frobe.

Archer pointed behind Solomon, who thought Archer was trying to trick him into turning around and ignored him. "How about I give you a cut, Archer? The employer is paying me three million dollars for that diamond. I'll give you a hundred thousand, as long as you don't cause trouble."

This made Archer laugh and feel touched; this bastard was going to great lengths to keep him alive. "Solomon, thank you, really, I appreciate it. But don't worry, I won't die. In fact, I can get more money than you."

Seeing the men with guns standing behind Solomon for a couple of minutes without shooting, Archer figured they were on Solomon's side. So, Archer grinned and stood up, putting some distance between himself and Solomon, then walked toward the black-armored men.

Ignoring Solomon's shouts, Archer called out to the men, "Hey, guys, you don't have to go to all this trouble to deal with General Frobe. Pay me, and I'll do it. Just give me ten million dollars, and Frobe won't live past tomorrow. I've been fighting with him since I was nineteen. After twelve years, I'm one of the few still alive, and he trusts me."

Solomon, seeing Christmas and the others, was startled and pointed his gun at Gunnar, fearing a hostile reaction. Christmas quickly said, "Put the gun down, Solomon. We're on the same side."

That voice was deeply ingrained in Solomon's memory. It was the same voice that had guided him safely out of Freetown, told him what to do along the way, and informed him that Dia had been found.

As soon as Solomon heard Christmas's voice, he lowered his gun and excitedly asked, "Can I see my son, Dia?"

Christmas pressed a button near the neck of his helmet, switching to an external speaker, and Solomon and Archer heard a digitally altered voice say, "Not yet, but don't worry. Your son is safe. After this is over, I'll take you to see him."

"What do we do now?" Solomon asked.

"Nothing. Just wait here. This spot is perfect for hiding," Christmas said, walking over to Archer. "As for you, Mr. Archer, can you tell me how many people are at the Kano airport?"

Archer grinned, "What's in it for me if I tell you? I've put in so much effort, and you all stand to benefit. Shouldn't I get something in return? After all, I made that call. Without me, General Frobe wouldn't have mobilized his troops so easily."

"You get to live," Christmas replied.

"Hah, that's the funniest thing I've heard. You think I'll live just because you don't kill me today? Even if Frobe dies, his men won't let me go."

Archer bit his lip, then continued, "So I need money, a lot of it, to disappear to a place where no one can find me. I could even work as a mole for you, getting all the people out of Kano airport. Only when they're all dead can I safely move to another country."

Christmas chuckled, "Archer, what you're saying isn't enough. Maybe we'll believe you after you kill General Frobe yourself. Now, enough talk. Tell me about the airport. If your information is valuable, my boss won't be stingy with money."

Archer hesitated. "How do I know you're telling the truth? I don't even know who your boss is."

"Give me an account number, and we'll pay you a million dollars for your information. How about that?"

Archer was stunned. These guys were rich, offering a million dollars just for some information. But hearing "Swiss account," Archer looked troubled.

"Hah, don't tell me you don't have a Swiss account, Archer. You're a diamond smuggler. For God's sake, a smuggler for six years and still broke?"

"Ha ha!" came an electronic laugh, irritating Archer and deepening his resentment towards General Frobe, who had been bleeding him dry.

"Alright, stop laughing. Come with me, Archer," Christmas said as they led him to a secluded valley where two Mercedes-Benz G550s were parked.

Christmas pulled a large bag from one of the cars and threw it at Archer's feet. "There's about 4.9 million dollars in here. If you help us get the people out of the airport, all this money is yours."

Archer quickly knelt, unzipping the bag to find it full of cash. He grabbed a few stacks, checked them, and was reassured they were real. "No problem. I guarantee I can get the people out of the airport. Heh, I know General Frobe's communication codes. I can send a fake message to get them out."

Archer thought for a moment, then smiled. "I know a place. Solomon and I saw a dip in the land behind the north gate's grassland when we escaped the airport. It's perfect for an ambush. Send the coordinates to the airport, pretending it's Frobe's order to meet there. Heh, just block the roads, and they won't be able to escape."

"Very good, Archer. This money is yours. But if you want to enjoy it, you better hope you're telling the truth."

"Of course, I want those people dead more than you do. Nice working with you."

"Nice working with you," Christmas shook Archer's hand, leaving Solomon stunned. He never imagined that the man he thought was good now wished death upon his former comrades.
