BTTH: Death Letter From The Future

Chapter 40: The Woeful Poison Body

Happy moments are always short-lived. After catching up for a while, the night deepened, and Chen Guan began to talk about serious matters.

"The last time my sister and her group searched the mountain, they found a cave and discovered a scroll of poison techniques inside. I looked through it when I couldn't sleep, and the more I read, the more I felt that you would really like it."

The Little Fairy Doctor accepted the gift and, after a quick glance, was deeply drawn in, as expected.

This poison manual was even more precious than the physician's notes Chen Guan had given her before, making it impossible for her to put it down.

"Then I won't be polite, thank you. I really like it."

"There's no need to thank me; it was meant for you." Chen Guan smiled, his words carrying a double meaning.

Seeing her joy, Chen Guan hesitated slightly, reluctant to bring up a heavy topic.

But after thinking it over, now that he had given her the poison manual, knowing her nature, the Little Fairy Doctor definitely wouldn't sleep tonight without going through the entire thing. So it made no difference if she learned the truth a little earlier.

"Take a look at the last entry."

The Little Fairy Doctor nodded and turned to the final page, curious about his meaning.

But when she saw the information about the Woeful Poison Body, her expression changed uncontrollably, and her smile became strained.

The Woeful Poison Body's owner would have a thin, seven-colored hidden line on their lower abdomen. The colorful line would grow as the concentration of poison in the body increased. When the line extended to the heart, that would be the moment the Woeful Poison Body was at its strongest.

At the same time, the owner would suffer the agony of being devoured by countless poisons.

If it were just personal suffering, that would be one thing. But what the Little Fairy Doctor couldn't accept was that once the Woeful Poison Body was activated, anyone who touched her would die.

As the poison within her accumulated, it would eventually reach a tipping point, leading to an uncontrollable outbreak.

By then, all life within a thousand miles would be wiped out—a disaster for the Dou Qi Continent.

These descriptions brought back painful memories for her.

For as long as she could remember, her greatest dream was to become an alchemist. Unfortunately, she didn't have the necessary qualifications and had to settle for being a doctor instead.

But fate played a cruel joke on her. With the Woeful Poison Body inside her, she couldn't control it, and one day, it would awaken. When that happened, she wouldn't even be able to continue as a doctor—she would become a feared poison woman.

"I'm sorry for telling you such a cruel truth so early. I had some selfish reasons."

Seeing her face grow pale, Chen Guan softly apologized.

She was so kind.

If he hadn't gotten involved, the Little Fairy Doctor could have at least lived happily for over a year before worrying about the Woeful Poison Body.

"It's fine. But how did you know I had the poison body? Did you spy on me?"

Closing the poison manual, the Little Fairy Doctor forced a smile, pretending to be angry to lighten the heavy atmosphere in the room.

Chen Guan's eyes dodged slightly. "Once, you ate too much and stretched lazily, and I caught a glimpse by accident. Ahem, purely unintentional."

The Little Fairy Doctor gave him a sidelong glance, her cheeks flushing slightly, which made her pale complexion appear much more normal.

Seeing this, Chen Guan seized the opportunity and explained in detail, "Don't worry too much. I've read many ancient texts, and although the Woeful Poison Body is terrifying, it's not without a solution. We can completely remove its drawbacks and control it. Once that's done, it won't harm you—instead, it could become one of your greatest strengths."

"Can it really be controlled?"

Even though she tried to appear calm, she couldn't help but fix her gaze on the young man, her voice trembling slightly, full of hope and nervousness.

Without hesitation, Chen Guan nodded confidently.

"According to what I've learned, there's a way to control the poison body through a special poison pill method. Though the process is complicated and requires many rare items, I'm fortunate to have clues about where to find them. With a bit of effort, it should be possible."

"There are also a few other potential methods, though I can't guarantee their success. But they're worth considering as backups."

For instance, the Ghostly Poison Flame.

It might be effective against the Woeful Poison Body.

Of course, this was just Chen Guan's speculation, without absolute certainty, but it was still worth having as a backup plan.

The Little Fairy Doctor, seeing Chen Guan speak so lightly and confidently, felt her inner tension ease considerably.

"You make it sound easy, but if I'm not mistaken, those materials aren't something ordinary people can obtain, right? Only someone with ties to the royal family like you would have a chance."

Royal family: Thank you for thinking so highly of us.

"You're putting in so much effort to help me—don't tell me it's just because you enjoy being helpful. How should I repay you?"

Chen Guan laughed awkwardly and replied vaguely, "Aren't we friends?"

The Little Fairy Doctor smiled without saying a word, quietly watching his performance.

She acknowledged the friendship but remained skeptical that it was the full story.

Blushing slightly under her gaze, Chen Guan raised his hands in surrender and confessed.

"Alright, let's be straightforward. I do have other reasons. The enemies I'll face in the future might be very strong. No matter how confident I am, there's only so much one person can do."

"So, I need companions to help me. That way, things will be much easier."

"The Woeful Poison Body has immense potential. In the future, Dou Emperor or even Dou Ancestor won't be your limit. With such a promising ally, how could I let you slip away?"

The Little Fairy Doctor nodded slightly. This reason made sense. If she were in Chen Guan's shoes, she would probably do the same.

Now that she had accepted this mutually beneficial relationship between friends, she remained outwardly calm and continued to ask questions.

"Anything else?"

Deep down, it seemed like she wanted to hear more reasons, though she wasn't sure why.

Unfortunately, that was the end.

Chen Guan shook his head. "That's it. I don't want to complicate our friendship with too many strings attached."

Of course, some less respectable thoughts were inevitable—he was a man, after all. Human nature.

But those thoughts weren't something to admit in front of her.

She stared at him for a few seconds, but Chen Guan's acting was too good today, and she couldn't detect any flaws. She could only mutter a sarcastic comment to herself and change the subject.

"Tell me what's needed for that poison pill method. I'll remember it in case I happen to come across something and save you the trouble."

"Alright, we need the magic core of at least a seventh-tier Heavenly Poison Scorpion Dragon Beast, the Bodhi Transforming Body Saliva, and three different types of heavenly flames."

As soon as he finished, the Little Fairy Doctor gave him a skeptical look.

Are you sure we can really get our hands on these things?

She didn't know much about the Bodhi Transforming Body Saliva, but judging by the other two, she could imagine how rare and precious it must be.

A seventh-tier magic core? That's from a Dou Ancestor-level magical beast!

And those heavenly flames? She'd only ever read about them in passing. She hadn't heard of anyone possessing them in the entire Jia Ma Empire.

And she needed three of them!!
