BTTH: Death Letter From The Future

Chapter 42:  Recognition through the Eyes

Recognizing through the eyes, it's someone seeking death.

Hai Bodong stopped wasting words. He swiftly leaped out from behind the counter. A fog rapidly rose with him at the center, and an icy blue Dou Qi faintly emerged.

Chen Guan, seeing an opportunity, smiled with excitement. He put away his map, and a broad sword appeared in his hand.

A broadsword differs from a longsword, being heavier and more suitable for powerful, sweeping attacks.

At the same time, he also noticed that the mist swirling inside the room had a strange effect, causing people to lose their sense of direction.

An interesting trick, but unfortunately, it had no effect on him.

The eyes can deceive, but the soul's perception cannot. His sensory perception, which was close to the Soul State, was far more reliable than sight.

Dou Qi armor condensed around his body, with strands of dark blue flames coursing through his meridians and spreading across his body, evaporating all the mist within three feet of him.

"Junior Chen Guan, seeking guidance from you, sir."

"Only a three-star Dou Master, yet able to condense full-body Dou Qi armor. You've truly surprised me, but if you think you can easily take away something I worked so hard to get, you're dreaming!"

Hai Bodong stepped forward, raising his hand. Dozens of sharp white ice spikes shot out—it was a Dou Qi manifestation, only achievable by those above the Dou Spirit level.

A deadly strike, perfect for testing the waters.

As the ice spikes shot toward him, Chen Guan showed no fear. Holding his broadsword in one hand, he launched a frontal counterattack. At the same time, dark blue flames appeared in the palm of his left hand, rapidly growing in intensity with the wind. The flames' heat was the nemesis of the ice spikes, melting them into drops of water in an instant.

After clearing away the ice spikes blocking his path, Chen Guan controlled the flames and sent them sweeping toward Hai Bodong. He gripped the broadsword with both hands, unleashing sword techniques so familiar they were ingrained in his bones, sending wave after wave of fierce sword energy like an overwhelming tide.

"Ice Mirror Condensation!"

"Ice Spirit Armor!"

Hai Bodong, a seasoned veteran, remained composed despite countless battles. He summoned his ice attribute Dou Qi, forming a large ice mirror over a meter in diameter in front of him, blocking the first wave of beast fire.

Seeing the ice mirror rapidly melting under the fire's assault, he quickly cast another defensive Dou Technique, forming a thick layer of ice armor around his body.

Meanwhile, an ice spear appeared in his hand. Pure defense had never been his style.

"Black Ice Whirlwind Slash!"

Crescent-shaped ice blades appeared around him. Spear in hand, Hai Bodong pressed against the ice mirror, moving forward to meet the surging sword energy head-on.

The ten-meter distance between them closed in an instant as sword energy raged and shattered ice scattered. The broadsword and ice spear collided with a loud crash.

In a split second, the ferocious Dou Qi energy rippled outward from the two of them like waves. The wooden floor beneath them cracked into a web of fissures, and the shop, already unstable, teetered on the verge of collapse.

Hai Bodong's expression darkened, not only due to the shop being wrecked, but also because the young man had only taken a few steps back before steadying himself after their clash.

This was not an outcome he could accept!

A Dou Spirit clashing with a Dou Master, and yet a single blow couldn't decide the winner. Did this make him look weak?

Though he hadn't gone all out, it still proved the boy's extraordinary strength.

At such a young age, possessing such power—this wasn't talent that the Jia Ma Empire could produce!

"Black Ice Quadruple Slash, Break!"

Attacking with his spear in one hand and rapidly forming seals with the other, a hundred ice blades appeared, merging into an ice dragon that charged at the young man.

The already crumbling shop completely collapsed under the onslaught of this attack.

Chen Guan's face grew serious. He stepped aside using his Cloud Step to avoid the falling debris, while also simultaneously launching a counterattack.

In the blink of an eye, hundreds of crimson sword energies formed behind him, rushing upward like falling meteors.

Though only two were fighting, the scene gave onlookers the illusion of hundreds engaged in battle. The sheer scale of it left the watching mercenaries astonished.

As Chen Guan had predicted, Hai Bodong's grandiose Black Ice Whirlwind Slash was indeed on par with his Instantaneous Blossom technique!

Terrifying!

This battle between ice and fire lasted for more than ten breaths.

What amazed the crowd was that throughout the entire battle, neither the handsome young man nor the strange old man selling maps had made another move, as if they had some unspoken understanding.

Silence returned to the scene, with a rainbow forming in the aftermath. Chen Guan and Hai Bodong exchanged distant glances, each with thoughts that no outsider could comprehend but were mutually understood.

"So, you're a pretender too!"

Recognizing through the eyes, they were the same type of person.
