Chapter 73: Entering the Xiao Family
"Yes, I have already informed her."
"I believe Sect Master Yun Yun will arrive shortly," Nalan Su said hurriedly.
As soon as he returned to the Nalan family, he immediately sent someone to inform the Yunlan Sect.
"That's good."
Nalan Jie, hearing this, breathed a sigh of relief and let Nalan Su help him sit on a chair.
"Father, what about your body?" Nalan Su asked with concern.
This old man is the pillar of the Nalan family in the Jia Ma Empire. If he falls, the consequences will be disastrous.
Cough...
Nalan Jie coughed violently. "I'm not dead yet, but this poison is getting stronger day by day."
"You little brat! Yanran is the hope of our Nalan family. If anything happens to her, you're finished!" Nalan Jie pointed his trembling finger at Nalan Su.
"Father, this is all my fault," Nalan Su admitted sincerely, lowering his head.
"Master Nalan, I heard that the disciple I had chosen was 'captured' by someone."
A woman in a tight brocade robe with golden and purple trims appeared in the hall. Her long black hair was styled into a phoenix-like bun, revealing an aura of unconcealable nobility. Her tranquil beauty resembled a clear spring in a secluded mountain. While her noble status inspired awe, her charm evoked deeper feelings.
In her hand, she carried a strange-looking long sword that emitted a green glow. This woman, who seemed like she belonged in heaven, was none other than the current leader of the Yunlan Sect, Yun Yun.
"Sect Master Yun Yun." x2
Nalan Jie and Nalan Su, without hesitation, clasped their fists slightly in greeting.
"Grandpa Nalan, your poison is worsening," Yun Yun remarked, noticing Nalan Jie's injuries. Her brows furrowed slightly.
"It's an old ailment. Thank you, Sect Master Yun Yun, for your concern," Nalan Jie replied with a hearty laugh.
Cough, cough...
As soon as he finished speaking, Nalan Jie started coughing violently again.
"Master Nalan, please take care of yourself. The Jia Ma Empire still needs you," Yun Yun said solemnly.
"Mm."
Nalan Jie nodded before changing the subject. "Sect Master Yun Yun, I'll trouble you with Yanran's matter."
Yun Yun assured him, "Don't worry, Master Nalan. Yanran and I share a connection, and I've always wanted to take her in as my apprentice. Now that she has been taken by a villain, I will not stand idly by."
"That puts my mind at ease." Nalan Jie stroked his white beard, feeling relieved.
"With Sect Master Yun Yun stepping in, that scoundrel wouldn't dare act presumptuously in her presence."
Yun Yun didn't respond verbally, her silence signaling agreement. The Yunlan Sect was the most powerful force in the Jia Ma Empire, to the point where even the royal family treaded carefully around them.
Yun Yun turned her beautiful eyes toward Nalan Su. "Patriarch Nalan, tell me exactly what happened."
"Yes."
Nalan Su proceeded to recount the events in detail.
"I see."
Yun Yun's expression turned serious.
"Patriarch Nalan, would you be willing to accompany me to Wutan City?"
"Of course, Sect Master Yun Yun."
"Very well. Let us depart."
Yun Yun took Nalan Su with her and left the Nalan family, heading straight toward the Xiao family in Wutan City.
---
Wutan City, Xiao Mansion
At the main gate stood a man with an extraordinary aura, wearing white robes and holding a sword. He led a white horse, upon which sat a young girl with twin ponytails wearing a moon-white dress.
"My two friends, my name is Yun Xiu. I am here to meet Miss Xun'er of your mansion," Yun Xiu said, bowing slightly to the two guards at the gate.
The guards exchanged glances. The man's extraordinary demeanor, along with the noble appearance of his companion, made it clear that they were not ordinary people. Even the white horse had an otherworldly quality.
One guard stepped forward and cupped his fists respectfully. "Sir, please wait here. I will inform the clan leader."
"Thank you," Yun Xiu replied with a slight nod.
Sitting atop the horse, Nalan Yanran looked at the enormous Xiao Mansion. She felt nervous and uneasy, though excitement lingered beneath her apprehension. She was about to meet her fiancé, someone she had never met before.
---
Xiao Zhan, upon hearing that someone with an extraordinary aura had arrived to meet Xiao Xun'er, he immediately sent someone to call her while heading to the gate himself.
As he arrived, Yun Xiu cupped his hands and greeted him. "Patriarch Xiao."
At a glance, Yun Xiu gauged Xiao Zhan's strength—a Da Dou Shi.
There was no mistaking it. Xiao Zhan was the current patriarch of the Xiao family.
"May I know how to address this senior?" Xiao Zhan bowed slightly, his tone respectful.
The man before him, dressed in white robes and wielding a wooden sword, exuded an aura of otherworldly confidence. Xiao Zhan knew that such a person was beyond what his family could contend with.
"My name is Yun Xiu. I am Xun'er's elder brother. You may call me Yun Xiu or Xiu'er, whichever you prefer," Yun Xiu said calmly.
Realizing Yun Xiu's likely connection to the Ancient Clan, Xiao Zhan immediately responded, "As you wish, Xiu'er."
Yun Xiu thought to himself, Well, that was quick.
"Please, come inside," Xiao Zhan said, leading Yun Xiu and Nalan Yanran into the Xiao family. Yanran remained silent, her gaze wandering curiously as she observed her surroundings.
---
In Xiao Xun'er's courtyard, a servant approached her respectfully.
"Miss Xun'er, the clan leader has invited you to the main hall."
"I understand," Xun'er said, halting her practice. Curiosity filled her as she followed the servant.
"Do you know why Uncle Xiao wants to see me?" she asked.
"I'm not sure," the servant replied. "But it seems someone has come to see you, and the clan leader went to greet them personally."
Someone came to see me? Xun'er thought, puzzled. Who could it be?
---
In the hall, Xiao Zhan sat in the main seat, while Yun Xiu and Nalan Yanran sat to his left. Xiao Zhan had yet to realize that the young girl in the moon-white dress was supposed to be his future daughter-in-law.
Turning to Yun Xiu, Xiao Zhan said respectfully, "Xiu'er, I've sent for Xun'er. She will be here shortly."
"Thank you, Patriarch Xiao."
"It's no trouble at all."
At that moment, a girl in a purple dress, exuding a cool and indifferent temperament like a lotus in the secular world, entered the hall.
"Uncle Xiao," she greeted politely.
