Call of duty one shots

Chapter 12: Keegan x Y/N

The sun slipped beneath the horizon, casting a warm glow over the modest family home. Inside, laughter melded into the familiar hum of evening life, though there was an undercurrent of tension that had been palpable for weeks.

Keegan, a man of valor and strength from his time in combat, now found himself facing a different kind of battlefield—one that consisted of mood swings and teenage angst.

"Hey, buddy, can we talk for a sec?" Keegan asked Namo, who was sprawled on the couch, headphones in, lost in a world of music and thoughts. The teenager looked up, eyes filled with the innocent chaos of youth, a mixture of curiosity and reluctance evident on his face.

"Sure, Dad," Namo replied, pulling off his headphones. The two moved to the quiet sanctuary of the backyard, where evening air was crisp with a hint of autumn.

As they settled onto the swing set, Keegan placed a hand on Namo's shoulder. "You've been a bit off lately," he started, choosing his words carefully. "I want you to know you can talk to me about anything."

Namo hesitated, his brows furrowing with the weight of adolescence. "It's just… everything feels like too much sometimes. One moment I'm fine, and the next, I feel like I'm going to explode," he confessed, a hint of rage threading through his voice.

"Yeah, I hear you," Keegan said softly. "It's normal to feel that way, especially with everything changing." He paused, sensing the unsteady ground they were on. "But what's really bothering you?"

Sighing deeply, Namo shifted his weight, speaking through clenched teeth. "It's this girl... I liked her, and I thought she liked me back, but I don't know… she's with someone else now. I just feel stupid." His confession hung in the air between them, heavy and unsteady.

A wave of sympathy washed over Keegan. He remembered his own teenage heartaches—those moments that felt world-shattering. "I understand a bit. Heartbreak stings kid, but it doesn't define you. You're stronger than you think. Just know I'm here for you. We can do something together—hang out, play some games. Whatever you want."

Namo looked up, his expression softening. "Thanks, Dad. That actually might help." There was a small lifting of the weight on his shoulders, a glimpse of the bond still strong between them.

Meanwhile, inside the house, Y/N was sitting cross-legged on Maria's bed, the two bookshelves around her filled with tales of adventure, lost worlds, and the realities of growing up. Maria, a whirlwind of emotions herself, squirmed under the extensive examination of her mother's thoughtful gaze.

"Why is everything so crazy?" Maria exclaimed, leaning back against her pillows. "One moment I'm happy, and the next I want to scream!"

"It's perfectly normal, sweetheart," Y/N replied calmly, her voice soothing like a balm. "You're entering a new stage—becoming a young woman. There are feelings and changes you'll go through, and I want you to know I'm here to talk about it."

Maria, biting her lip, looked to her mother searching for reassurance. "Like what?"

"Like body changes, mood swings, crushes. It can all feel overwhelming, but keeping open communication will help us figure it out together."

As the hour passed, the night grew darker, but warmth enveloped their cozy home. Conversations and revelations were exchanged, each parent connecting individually with their children in ways they needed most.

Later that evening, after a shower and stripping away the day's exhausted facades, Y/N and Keegan reunited on the couch, their auras still brimming with concern yet box full of love.

"Think we made any progress?" Y/N asked, activating the movie with a touch of the remote, the opening credits illuminating their faces.

"Time will tell, but just being here for them might be enough for now," Keegan replied, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, comforted by the familiarity of her presence.

As the Halloween movie flickered on the screen, large unspoken fears danced around them, intertwined with flickers of hope. Laughter bubbled between the scares and silly moments as they sank deeper into the cushions, united and ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead as a family.
