Chapter 31 - Whose Calculation
As Mentor Fang watched Aoi Dan, he caught her teasing and charming the male candidates while smiling sweetly, only to suddenly turn aggressive.
She sighed, acknowledging that Aoi Dan had great abilities and strong combat awareness, but unfortunately, her intentions were questionable.
Not wanting to observe her any longer, Mentor Fang exited the combat assessment area and switched to the mecha manufacturing examination zone, inputting Ruo Manni’s name and student ID.
To his surprise, after the interface rotated, it automatically switched to the assessment area and displayed a message: “Ruo Manni, ID 0001000, Mecha Combat Department, Assessment Area 5.”
Seeing this information, Mentor Fang realized she had completely misunderstood; Ruo Manni had applied for the Mecha Manufacturing Department, so how did she end up in the Mecha Combat assessment area?
Ruo Manni had just advanced to the late stage of Warrior Level 3, and she had always specialized in mecha manufacturing. Her combat skills had only been practiced over the past two months. Now, being placed among candidates whose physical skills were all at least Level 4, particularly those trained in combat, she was essentially there to provide points for others.
What was going on? Was someone intentionally altering her application to serve some purpose?
Ruo Manni had personally submitted her application to the Xuan Gu First Military Academy. Mentor Fang was sure that she hadn’t made any modifications afterward and had received written confirmation from the academy.
In this situation, unless it was the president of the Xuan Gu First Military Academy following proper procedures, no one should be able to change a candidate’s preferences.
However, the concept of privilege exists in the world.
While Ruo Manni’s talent and ability in mecha manufacturing were outstanding on Topaz Star, her application only indicated that she was a Level 1 Mecha Maker.
This qualification was merely acceptable among the mecha manufacturing candidates at Xuan Gu First Military Academy; it certainly wasn’t impressive enough to obstruct anyone’s path.
As an unknown orphan from a third-tier fringe planet, why would anyone want to exclude her from entering the Xuan Gu First Military Academy?
Could it be that she had been mistakenly identified and was serving as a stand-in for someone else?
As Mentor Fang pondered, she quickly submitted an inquiry request, only to receive a response stating that Ruo Manni had been assigned to the Mecha Combat Department rather than the Mecha Manufacturing Department.
Looking at the busy candidates assembling mechas in the Mecha Manufacturing assessment area, Mentor Fang sighed internally, lacking the courage to check on Ruo Manni’s situation. This child had worked so hard before, and now the blow was equally great.
If it weren’t for Ruo Manni’s mother, Teresa Du, having a wish for her to attend the Xuan Gu First Military Academy, the couple wouldn’t have wanted her to apply.
The Xuan Gu First Military Academy was well-known, making the competition extremely fierce behind the scenes. For someone like Ruo Manni, attending the Second Military Academy would be better; her abilities would be greatly valued there. Old Lin was a graduate of the Second Military Academy and had some connections that could help.
If she couldn’t get into the Xuan Gu First Military Academy, Ruo Manni could still apply to the Second Military Academy. With this thought, Mentor Fang felt less anxious. She switched the interface to the Mecha Combat assessment area 5 and entered Ruo Manni’s ID number.
As the interface loaded, Mentor Fang mentally prepared for the possibility that Ruo Manni had already been eliminated, but what she found was shocking.
Searching for Ruo Manni’s information, she had assumed that she would have been eliminated. So when she saw that Ruo Manni was still online and had accumulated over a hundred points, Mentor Fang thought she was seeing things.
After confirming multiple times that she hadn’t misread, she still couldn’t believe it.
Mentor Fang looked at the small interface on the screen, bewildered. Aoi Dan had only over fifty points, while the male candidate had slightly increased his score, but it was still just in the twenties.
Heaven, over a hundred points! This meant that in just over half an hour, Ruo Manni had eliminated at least dozens of candidates. How could a late-stage Level Three warrior manage this without psychic weapons?
No matter how incredible the reality seemed, it was still the truth.
Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Mentor Fang clicked on Ruo Manni’s battle perspective and saw her raise her hand, launching something green from her palm that shot out like a bolt of lightning, hitting the chest emblems of the three boys who were encircling her.
The three boys hit by the green light froze for a moment, and two seconds later, they vanished like meteors. Mentor Fang noticed Ruo Manni’s score had jumped by over forty points.
This indicated that those three candidates had previously eliminated quite a few competitors, each accumulating dozens of points. When they were eliminated by Ruo Manni, half of their points transferred to her.
However, Mentor Fang couldn’t understand how Ruo Manni, as a late-stage Level Three warrior, had the capability to take out three Level Four candidates in an instant. What was that green light she shot? The candidates weren’t armed with any weapons…
Replaying the moment in slow motion, he realized that Ruo Manni had used leaves as hidden weapons. The three early-stage Level Four candidates hadn’t even gotten close to her before she unexpectedly dispatched them with her projectiles.
It dawned on Mentor Fang that Ruo Manni had cleverly utilized leaves as psychic weapons, and it seemed that their offensive power was quite strong.
This year’s map assessment area was a jungle battle, so Ruo Manni’s hidden weapons were readily available. As long as her psychic energy could sustain her for half the time and she earned enough points, getting into the Mecha Combat Department wouldn’t be a problem.
This was truly a stroke of luck amidst misfortune, as the terrain greatly enhanced Ruo Manni’s overall combat capability.
Seeing hope, Mentor Fang let out a long breath.
After observing Ruo Manni’s subsequent battles, her tension eased a bit more.
Ruo Manni’s ability to skillfully use leaves as hidden weapons indicated that her psychic attack power was quite strong. A Level Three warrior wouldn’t normally be able to utilize hidden weapons in such a way.
Estimating the force behind Ruo Manni’s projectiles, Mentor Fang deduced that her psychic level was likely no lower than mid-Level Four, possibly even higher; otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to expend her psychic energy so effortlessly.
It seemed that Ruo Manni had indeed turned misfortune into fortune, not only strengthening her physique but also enhancing her psychic abilities, making her a dual talent.
Mentor Fang often sighed in relief, a joyful smile appearing on her face.
Previously, she had only noticed the change in Ruo Manni’s physique and hadn’t considered that her psychic power had significantly increased due to the genetic enhancement serum. The data reported to the Xuan Gu First Military Academy had indicated that Ruo Manni’s psychic potential was only C-level.
However, it now appeared that her psychic potential could very well be 3C. The person who secretly modified Ruo Manni’s application major certainly didn’t anticipate this outcome, which ultimately showcased her exceptional overall strength.
With her abilities as a Level Four late-stage psychic, Level Three late-stage warrior, and Level Two mecha craftsman, Ruo Manni would be considered an outstanding candidate even at the Xuan Gu First Military Academy. Even if she were eliminated at this stage, Mentor Fang believed that with this information to appeal, her chances of success would be very high.
