Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 9 - Wasteful Rebirth

If the humans of the Gumerra star domain are considered a Level 3 civilization, then the civilization of the Yunkai star domain is a Level 4 civilization. The technological level of the Yunkai aliens is at least thousands of years more advanced than that of the humans in the Gumerra star domain.

What this means doesn’t need to be elaborated by the military of the Gus Empire; even civilians can assess that the Yunkai aliens can absolutely overpower the military forces of the Gumerra star domain. Therefore, this information is the worst possible news for the Gumerra star domain.

Especially since the homeland of the Yunkai aliens has been destroyed, they have no way out. To survive, they will fight desperately and crazily invade the Gumerra star domain without leaving any options for retreat.

In the face of the critical situation regarding the safety and survival of the entire Gumerra star domain, all factions must set aside their grievances and gather top talents from various planets to collaboratively research new types of spaceships, warships, and mechas, in order to rapidly enhance the overall military strength of the Gumerra star domain.

At the same time, the high-level officials of various nations are focusing on one crucial issue: within the next ten years, how can they elevate the combat capabilities of all humanity in the Gumerra star domain to a new level, and how can they train a large number of Level 5 mecha combat specialists capable of fighting in space?

Only with a sufficient number of star warriors can humanity hope to compete with the Yunkai aliens and potentially block them from invading the Gumerra star domain, preventing the war from spilling over onto its planets. Otherwise, when the war ends, the planets will be destroyed as well.

Unity can always lead to miracles, especially when the top scientists from the entire Gumerra star domain come together. Thus, within two years of learning about the Yunkai aliens, a game called “War Realm” was created, capable of rapidly enhancing the combat abilities of all humanity.

Of course, all informed government officials dared not disclose the truth to the public at this stage. History has shown that revealing such major events without sufficient preparation and the strength to overcome them only leads to public panic. Over time, this could trigger various problems that hinder development; it’s even worse if the enemy hasn’t arrived yet and the society collapses from within.

Therefore, each government and faction aimed to attract citizens into the War Realm to learn various skills without revealing the truth, quickly increasing the population’s strength.

Consequently, countries could only offer generous benefits to War Realm players and link in-game achievements to real-life rewards to enhance its appeal.

For example, the game coins earned in War Realm can be freely exchanged for information points, and the professional levels achieved in the game can serve as credentials for bonuses and salary increases in real life. This encourages the public to join War Realm for training from various angles.

With the government’s strong promotion and various incentives, War Realm stirred up the entire Gumerra star domain even before its official launch.

Although the holographic game capsules for War Realm are expensive, players can apply to the government to pay only one-fifth of the credit points upfront. The remaining four-fifths can be deducted monthly from the game coins earned by players in the game.

If players cannot earn enough to cover these costs within two years, the worst penalty would simply be the confiscation of the game capsule, without any legal liability.

Such unprecedented favorable conditions are affordable for the vast majority of the population in the Gumerra star domain. As a result, on the first day of the game’s launch, over fifty billion players entered, representing one-third of the human population in the Gumerra star domain.

In the novel, the entire Gumerra star domain acted similarly, but Ruo Manni sighed deeply. If only the humans of Gumerra could have an additional twenty years, perhaps the plan would succeed. However, with only nine years left to bridge a gap of thousands of years, it seemed like a pipe dream.

Although the humans in Gumerra were aware of the impending arrival of the Yunkai aliens, they lacked sufficient space forces to intercept the enemy in space. As a result, at least twenty to thirty planets were destroyed, leading to significant loss of life.

Thinking of that heavy future, Ruo Manni felt her spirits sink. She truly hoped the plot could be rewritten. It was frustrating that when she died in her past life, the novel had not yet concluded; it only mentioned that the Eldest Prince led his entire escort fleet to confront the enemy, delivering a devastating blow that began to turn the tide of the battlefield, giving Hua Deli and others a chance to turn the situation around.

Yet, the novel never detailed how the Eldest Prince achieved this or what methods and weapons he used to reverse the dire circumstances on the brink of human extinction. Even as a reincarnated character, Ruo Manni felt helpless.

She couldn’t help but curse the author for creating such a cliché scenario. Why arrange for the malicious supporting character, Aoi Dan, to be reborn? It seemed pointless. If only the sacrificed Eldest Prince could be reborn after fighting the Yunkai aliens, Ruo Manni believed that his return would surely change the course of the interstellar war.

However, whether through soul transmigration or rebirth, Ruo Manni had no control over her fate. Complaining was futile; she needed to focus on the tasks at hand.

Even though the government promoted War Realm extensively, many players remained skeptical about the skills learned in the game being applicable in reality, resulting in various complaints and doubts within the War Realm community.

Lin Kexin, who had come into the story with a “big-picture perspective,” knew that this was true. Moreover, not only that, the cultivation gained through battles in the War Realm would also translate to real-world growth.

The most concrete manifestation was that the combat training in the War Realm could increase battle experience and enhance physical fitness. When combined with daytime training, accumulating certain values would lead to an increase in the player’s cultivation level.

The initial attribute points when entering the game represented the player’s potential level, measured against a standard of C grade, rather than their actual cultivation level. Everyone started from the same point, but skills and experience from the real world would reflect in the player’s performance in the game. Thus, players with higher cultivation levels in reality would level up in the game much faster than those with lower levels.

Players in the War Realm were divided into four groups: youth, young adults, middle-aged, and seniors. The first three groups focused on fighting monsters to level up, while the senior group studied logistics and care-related knowledge. The novel didn’t specify the reason, but Ruo Manni understood that the War Realm prioritized training young players because they were the hope for future interstellar wars.
