Chapter 6: Snippet 3: Douluo Dalu: I have a Niffler as my Martial Spirit?:- Chapter 2
2. The Alchemist, Mu Qingqiu.
│3rd Person POV │
[Unknown Small World...]
"What is this place??!!" Dugu Bo couldn't help crying out in shock and astonishment once he regained his bearings after entering the mysterious rift.
The reason for Dugu Bo's shock was that he couldn't mobilize his Soul Power anymore. Even his Martial Soul couldn't be released. He could feel that only his Spiritual Power could be mobilized in this place.
"What happened, Grandpa?" Dugu Chen asked with an anxious expression on his face.
Noticing his worry, Dugu Bo pushed down his shock and said, "It's nothing serious, Chen'er. Grandpa's just having a bit of trouble with his Soul Power. It will be alright in a few moments."
Dugu Chen had a look of confusion on his face. Nevertheless, he nodded his head, accepting his grandfather's explanation.
Inwardly, however, he was full of shock and worry.
'Grandpa is having trouble controlling his Soul Power? Does this place some kind of formation or something to suppress Soul Power? Besides, I am pretty sure there wasn't anything like this place mentioned in the Douluo Dalu series. What is going on here? And that nagging feeling that pushed me to come here has calmed down a lot since I entered the rift. Seriously, can anybody tell me what is happening?'
Pushing those thoughts aside, Dugu Chen guided his grandfather through the place, following the strange feelings pulling him along.
As they walked, they spotted countless herbs glowing with vibrant halos of different colors, showing just how special they were. Dugu Bo wanted to examine them and see if any of them could cure his and his family's poison problem. However, Dugu Chen's situation was more urgent, so he suppressed his desire.
A quarter of an hour later, the two of them finally came across something other than special herbs.
Just a short distance ahead, about a few dozen meters away, they spotted a small, single-story house.
"Is this the place?" Dugu Bo asked in a low voice.
Dugu Chen nodded and replied in a hushed tone, matching his grandfather's, "Yeah, I can feel it. Whatever's calling me is inside that cottage."
"Stay here. Let me take a look first."
After giving these instructions, Dugu Bo stepped forward on his own to peek inside the house through an open window. At the same time, he used his Spiritual Power to scan the house for any signs of danger.
The first thing that caught his attention was a skeleton in one of the house's rooms. He also discovered a few underground chambers beneath the house. The skeleton and the walls of the underground chambers gave him the impression that they were indestructible.
After scanning the house a few times with his Spiritual Power to ensure that there was nothing else of note, he retreated to his grandson's side.
"Let's go and prepare yourself. There's a skeleton in the house."
Saying so, he guided Dugu Chen towards the house's door.
Before long, they entered the house through the front door. Once inside, the grandfather and grandson duo were slightly surprised to note that there wasn't a speck of dust in the house, even though the presence of the skeleton indicates that no one had been living in this house for quite some time.
Within a minute, the both of them reached the room where the skeleton was located.
"Wait here." Leaving Dugu Chen at the door, Dugu Bo entered the room alone and inspected it up close.
Dugu Bo cautiously approached the skeleton sitting cross-legged in the center of the room and noticed three items lying next to it: a worn-looking Ancient Ring, a strange pendant, and a neatly folded note. Picking up the note first, he glanced at the skeleton warily, half-expecting something to happen. When nothing happened, he quickly scanned the note with his eyes.
At that moment, Dugu Chen entered the room, curious about what his grandfather had found. "What's in the letter, Grandpa?" he asked in a low voice.
Dugu Bo began reading the contents of the letter, "This is the last testament of Mu Qingqiu, an 8th Tier Alchemist and a Peak 8th Rank Fire and Wood Dual Spirit Mage from the Great Qian Empire, Heaven Cloud Continent. My life's work and pursuit have brought me here, to the end of my journey.
"Knowing I could never step into the 9th Rank through my own talent, let alone the legendary 10th Rank, I made the fateful decision to challenge the slumbering Jade Treasure Dragon, a peak 8th Rank Demon Beast, in hopes of obtaining its Heart and Life Core. Using its Heart, Life Core, and a few other 8th Rank Herbs, I wanted to create the legendary Dragon Heart Core Transcendence Pill that can tremendously increase one's affinity for all elements and bestow the Bloodline of Dragons upon the consumer.
"Though I succeeded in slaying the beast, the battle left my Mana Heart shattered, sealing my fate and cutting off any chance of advancing further. Despite this, I refined the Dragon Heart Core Transcendence Pill and stored it within my Scarlet Autumn Storage Ring, alongside my lifelong collection of treasures and knowledge, hoping that the one destined to find this Secret Realm would use it and reach the 10th Rank in my stead.
"I am also leaving behind the Azure Heaven Pendant. With this treasure, you can control the Divine Herb Garden. Otherwise, this Secret Realm will eventually drift away and the rift you used to enter this realm will be gone."
Silence filled the room as Dugu Bo finished reading.
Dugu Bo was silent because most of what was mentioned in the letter flew over his head. He had never heard of the Great Qian Empire or the Heaven Cloud Continent. He also didn't know what a Spirit Mage or a Demon Beast was. And what the hell is an Alchemist?
On the other hand, Dugu Chen was silent because his mind was abuzz with thousands of different thoughts.
'What kind of cliche encounter was this? An extremely accomplished Alchemist with high cultivation leaves behind his legacy and a miraculous Pill for the so-called 'Chosen One' to come and take them. Heck, there wasn't even a single trial that I had to overcome to gain this tremendous windfall. However, I am glad that there wasn't any trial, as I am sure that with my current self, I am not even qualified to attempt any such trial.
'Besides, I suddenly got the urge to come to this Secret Realm. Doesn't that mean I am the One Destined to inherit this Mu Qingqiu's Legacy? Wow, I am getting the Main Character treatment here.'
Suddenly, Dugu Chen shook his head and forcefully dispelled that thought, 'I shouldn't think I am the Main Character just because one incredibly powerful opportunity landed in my hands. Who knows, some higher beings may take offense to such thoughts and erase me in a fit of rage while referencing that 'He knows too much!' meme.
'Leaving that aside, this Mu Qingqiu is likely from a world similar to Electrolux's home world considering that she referred to herself as a Spirit Mage. She was also an Alchemist. If she has left behind some teachings on how to become an Alchemist and our Dugu Family managed to adapt that method to our Douluo Planet, it would be a tremendous boon for us.
'Also, that Dragon Heart Core Transcendence Pill, if I consume it, I will surely awaken Soul Power during the Martial Soul Awakening Ceremony, right? Additionally, as an 8th Rank Alchemist (it sounds pretty high rank), Mu Qingqiu must have known methods to solve our Dugu Family's poison problem. I hope she knew one such method and the method should be easier than relying on pushing the poison to a Soul Bone.
'If only I remembered the herbs Tang San used to create the Antidote. I only remember that the key ingredient to create the Antidote was Tang San's blood, which gained a strong ability to counter poison after he refined the two extreme fire and ice attributes Immortal Herbs.'
As Dugu Chen was lost in his thoughts, Dugu Bo finally recovered from his daze.
Then, Dugu Bo knelt beside the skeleton and gently picked up the Scarlet Autumn Storage Ring and the Azure Heaven Pendant. He focused his Spiritual Power, attempting to probe two items' secrets, but met with strong resistance. No matter how much effort he put in, the ring and the pendant refused to reveal anything.
He even attempted to wear the ring, however, some unseen force stopped him from doing so.
Frowning, Dugu Bo stood in silence for a few minutes before finally deciding to hand the letter, the ring, and the pendant to Dugu Chen. "Chen'er, I think you are the Destined person this Mu Qingqiu was talking about.
"Take this and try to see if these items respond to you."
Dugu Chen nodded solemnly, carefully taking three items from his grandfather's hands. Before trying to use the ring or the pendant, his eyes flickered toward the skeleton.
Stepping forward, he knelt down and bowed three times to the skeleton, saying, "Thank you for this generous gift, Respected Senior. I promise to do my best to fulfill your goal in your stead."
After standing up, he attempted to put on the ring, but an invisible force stopped him. Thinking for a moment, he bit his thumb to draw blood and smeared it on both the ring and the pendant. Instantly, both items reacted, shedding their previous dull look and a wave of information flooded his mind.
He learned how to use the pendant to freely enter and exit the Divine Herb Garden Secret Realm and also some other functions of the ring and pendant. More importantly, he realized that the Secret Realm would soon shift away from the vicinity of Douluo Planet.
If they wanted to leave and return to their original location, they had only a few seconds to act.
Dugu Chen quickly explained the situation to his grandfather. Though he didn't fully grasp all the details, Dugu Bo trusted his grandson completely. Following his instructions, he placed a firm hand on Dugu Chen's shoulder.
With a single thought, Dugu Chen activated the pendant's ability, and the two of them exited the Secret Realm. In an instant, they found themselves back in the valley within the Sunset Forest.
Glancing back, they noticed the rift in the air rapidly closing until it vanished entirely.
The grandfather and grandson stood quietly for a moment before Dugu Bo suggested they examine the ring and pendant later at home. With that, he lifted Dugu Chen onto his back once more and sprinted off toward Heaven Dou City.
